Why LGBT Representation matters

Not any more difficult than saying “Well you haven’t gone through these so your opinion is invalid.”

I’m not. I kind of quit caring about the community the second it went from “We just want equal rights” to screeching about not every movie having a mandated gay couple. At a certain point it sucks having to swallow my pride when I defended the group in the past saying “Oh that’s hyperbole, they just want marriage, they won’t go that far.” Fast forward 8 years and honestly, the hyperbolic statements didn’t do it enough justice. The reality is worse than the hyperbole.

Even as a trans person, I simply argued “Well people won’t try to employ legal action on you for gendering them incorrectly.” Nope, that’s happening now. Similarly some states are mandating children be read stories by people dressed in drag, some of which are REGISTERED SEX OFFENDERS.

All of these are things I laughed at the hyperbole of in 2010-2012. 2020 and it’s reality. These are things actually happening now. No wonder public reception to LGBT is taking a dive, I’m clearly not the only one who feels this way. The group is undermining its own goal. I refuse to defend them any longer.

Yeah same here, it’s why I proudly stand for the Pledge of Allegiance because I come from a family that for every generation has had one member in the military in some branch and why if I see someone in a military outfit as a civilian I gladly hold doors open for them.

I’m not going to rewrite my entire perception of reality because someone who wasn’t accepted for who they feel they are had a bad experience. I also won’t say my old way of thinking was wrong because it isn’t.

This whole idea on someone’s argument holds more weight because they might have hypothetically suffered more injustice in their life doesn’t make what they say credible. It’s why whenever children are trotted out for gun control because they suffered a shooting that nobody listens, being in close proximity to a shooting doesn’t make you a genius on guns and their handling. It just means you dealt with a shooting. It might shape your opinions having dealt with it of course, doesn’t mean your opinion is any more valid though.

Yeah it’s why I used to love the internet. Tired of dealing with IRL, well video games are free of all the social whining of various groups demanding everything be catered to them for representing a small fraction of the community at large.

Then they began infesting that and now I have to argue with them because they’ve chosen to invade my sanctum and turn that sanctum into the hellscape from which I deliberately avoided real life for. Similarly I’d rather not just leave because in all fairness, I was here first.

If I move out of California to avoid the absurdly high cost of living and taxation along with the other issues, I’m not dumb enough to move to an area that resembles California. If I wanted to live in California I’d live in California. If I wanted to be subject to political agendas and messaging I’d be still watching movies and cartoons and dealing with real life, but I’m on the internet trying to avoid it.

I hear many people are moving to Texas cause it’s more affordable. But they got brain eating bacteria that killed a kid too… so pick your poison.

It’s nice that blizzard is getting with the times. Of course all sides can have toxic people but to generalize one side does it all is silly.

We don’t all have to focus on lgbt stuff, but it’s nice some people care and pave the way for rights we all enjoy. If it annoys you I would suggest not looking at those threads. Silence can be seen as inaction for some. As the saying goes. If you’ll never try you’ll never know.

Eh it’s either that or public fecal matter littering the streets, quite literally. I went to SF a year ago about and when I got back my friend asked how it went “Sh*tty” is the only way I could describe it, it was everywhere and smelled.

I imagine nobody wants to live in an area where the sanitation practices are on par with what gave us all the Black Plague centuries ago.

Except they really aren’t. That’s the thing that really pisses me off about it all. Don’t people expect better for themselves? Your whole identity and representation is literally being dangled in front of you to make money. It isn’t sincere. I hate to bring up what is the most stereotyped argument now but if you want to see their sincerity on this, take a look at if this stays in the Chinese version of Shadowlands or gets mildly retooled or just never addressed there.

It’s pretty crazy how fast you can discern whether something is done out of sincerity or to rake in a quick buck when you look at if they change anything about it in areas where it might affect the bottom line. Think Blizzard would donate to charities if they couldn’t write it off on their taxes? Think they’d have bothered giving you a gay romance and a transgender character in the game (both of which have poor writing done because this isn’t an actual endeavor) if they figured there weren’t at least a handful of game journalists who would harp on that alone and say that sole thing is worthy of a 10/10 review score on Kotaku, or people who would play simply because Blizzard is “pushing social acceptance to gamers”?

I know it’s sad to think people are literally that pathetic, but they are and that’s why this marketing trick is employed. I could make coffee mugs that just have “LGBT” engraved on the side and there are people who would buy it.

You need only know Blizzard’s decision regarding Hong Kong last year was a big mistake and it cost them. Is it no wonder why now they’re attaching themselves to literally every political message possible thinking that’s what the fans actually wanted? The memo wasn’t that we wanted them taking stances, the memo was specifically we didn’t want them taking stances AT ALL because it isn’t up to a corporation to try and push social change because it’s never genuine, it’s always some ploy to rake in a few dollars.

Yeah people who buy into that are categorically stupid in my book so how they perceive me matters very little. In fact if one side tells me I have to pick a side, I’ll side with their opposition and give them the middle finger while doing it. People don’t like being told what to do, people really don’t like when that direction also comes attached with an implied guilt trip.

I sometimes try playing devil’s advocate to try to increase my perspective. But not for something so emotional lol. But I guess we all have our character.

Sometimes nuetrality is nice, sometimes it isn’t. Sucks what happened in Hong Kong but I don’t know why businesses are expected to somehow deal with China (and stand up to them) when the government doesn’t. I think most of WoW’s revenue is through China, and they even have their own headquarters with their own culture. I’m not surprised they would heavily censor stuff over their though as the whole culture is censored. They can’t even see bones, whereas say like in Mexico skull art is prevalent and death celebrated.

You don’t have a basic understanding of what south Africa was or what Apartheid is if you think people had their land stolen. Hint, a majority of black south Africans aren’t indigenous to the region.

Ew no.
