Not any more difficult than saying “Well you haven’t gone through these so your opinion is invalid.”
I’m not. I kind of quit caring about the community the second it went from “We just want equal rights” to screeching about not every movie having a mandated gay couple. At a certain point it sucks having to swallow my pride when I defended the group in the past saying “Oh that’s hyperbole, they just want marriage, they won’t go that far.” Fast forward 8 years and honestly, the hyperbolic statements didn’t do it enough justice. The reality is worse than the hyperbole.
Even as a trans person, I simply argued “Well people won’t try to employ legal action on you for gendering them incorrectly.” Nope, that’s happening now. Similarly some states are mandating children be read stories by people dressed in drag, some of which are REGISTERED SEX OFFENDERS.
All of these are things I laughed at the hyperbole of in 2010-2012. 2020 and it’s reality. These are things actually happening now. No wonder public reception to LGBT is taking a dive, I’m clearly not the only one who feels this way. The group is undermining its own goal. I refuse to defend them any longer.
Yeah same here, it’s why I proudly stand for the Pledge of Allegiance because I come from a family that for every generation has had one member in the military in some branch and why if I see someone in a military outfit as a civilian I gladly hold doors open for them.
I’m not going to rewrite my entire perception of reality because someone who wasn’t accepted for who they feel they are had a bad experience. I also won’t say my old way of thinking was wrong because it isn’t.
This whole idea on someone’s argument holds more weight because they might have hypothetically suffered more injustice in their life doesn’t make what they say credible. It’s why whenever children are trotted out for gun control because they suffered a shooting that nobody listens, being in close proximity to a shooting doesn’t make you a genius on guns and their handling. It just means you dealt with a shooting. It might shape your opinions having dealt with it of course, doesn’t mean your opinion is any more valid though.
Yeah it’s why I used to love the internet. Tired of dealing with IRL, well video games are free of all the social whining of various groups demanding everything be catered to them for representing a small fraction of the community at large.
Then they began infesting that and now I have to argue with them because they’ve chosen to invade my sanctum and turn that sanctum into the hellscape from which I deliberately avoided real life for. Similarly I’d rather not just leave because in all fairness, I was here first.
If I move out of California to avoid the absurdly high cost of living and taxation along with the other issues, I’m not dumb enough to move to an area that resembles California. If I wanted to live in California I’d live in California. If I wanted to be subject to political agendas and messaging I’d be still watching movies and cartoons and dealing with real life, but I’m on the internet trying to avoid it.
