Good lord dude. Keep your sexual preference and politics out of our game. Nobody cares who you prefer to sleep with. Has ZERO to do with wow. If you want to sleep with a dude, dudette, broom, cow, fictional character, more power to you. Nobody cares. Your “community” has forced its way into so many completely unrelated areas, it’s ridiculous.
This is America. You’re free to sleep with whatever sex you want.
The way wow protrays relationships is usually through the medium of stories, born out in quest text.
There are a few examples of explicit romance such as Malfurion and Tyrande in Legion.
However most of what I have seen people ask for, in terms of representation, is of the same kind that straight relationship have. IE. stories of characters in the game world, encountered through questing.
Strange that China’s government doesn’t approve of it. They have restrictions on how many children you can have and gay couple not only result in less children, but often provide a home for all the ones in need. It’s like they’re living in 1950 still.
Relationships and politics are an enormous part of the fantasy genre, which includes wow.
Whether you recognise it or not, fantasy reflects real life in an enormous number of ways, including relationships. All of the characters we meet in game have backgrounds, families, relationships and often partners. If you were to remove all of that, it wouldn’t be wow anymore.
Just because you don’t pay attention to any of that, doesn’t mean it doesnt exist.
I could say more but I’m not sure it would be productive.
Sadly, a surprising number of people in this world make it their business, and try to prevent the LGBTQ demographic from having the same opportunities as them.
I think most people are happy for the representation in the game. How is it forced?
It really doesn’t imo. I mean I guess it’s nice to see now and then but I don’t really need representation. I’m playing a fictional MMO about 9 feet tall cows and little fox creatures, among other things, being in war. I don’t need love and romance in a game like that.
I want romance to just die in this game. Just kill it off Blizzard…pls.
Let’s go back to the good old WoW days of alliance vs horde, Wrath story telling, good class design, and maybe that caterpillar mount that didn’t win in the mount vote.
Where there are stories there are characters, and where there are characters there are relationships. In WoW this is usually implied through quest text or dialogue rather than overt romanticism.
I don’t really understand your point because I haven’t seen anyone here request overt romanticisim be introduced into wow.
It’s forced because it’s not present in the game or the lore. It never has been. It doesn’t need to be just because LGBTQ is “hip” or “accepted” now compared to in the past.
There are relationships in wow story to a point, but most are involving parents/children or husband/wife. Since a man and woman are the only combination of sexes that can create life, it stands to reason that when stories are written, they default to that.
How weird would it sound for Jaina Proudmoore to be the adopted daughter to Jake and Steve? How would she have inherited her power?
Sexual preference, political views, religious views have no place in WoW.
I prefer to sleep with red headed women. I don’t get outraged or ask blizzard to only represent couples with female redheads. Why? Because that’s nonsense. My preference is mine alone and doesn’t need to be forced on the community
I respect your opinion and see where you are approaching this from, but just a friendly reminder that the LGBTQ demographic has been a part of society for most, if not all of human history and deserves some space in storytelling. Imo in a world that is as large and expansive as World of Warcraft, it’s okay to have some LGBTQ characters.
You know what…I’m just going to edit my entire comment because it just seems like it’ll be a long discussion and I’ll just say this…how can you skip over my desire for the caterpillar mount? That needs to happen. I do believe we can agree on this.
Thanks. I have zero issues with LGBTQ people or their preferences. My motto is sleep with whomever you want that makes you happy. Sexual preference, race, political views, religious beliefs, etc all mean nothing to anyone but yourself.
All that nonsense has taken over all forms of media and it’s “forced” upon people everywhere. We don’t need it in video games too. And I only say nonsense because sexual preference should have 0 impact on anything outside of your personal life/relationship. I shouldn’t have to see ads for LGBTQ on tv nonstop like I do every day. Just like you guys shouldn’t see ads that are forcing “straight” lifestyle on you. I don’t know what to call non LGBTQ stuff lol. Sorry I’m not PC with all the new abbreviations and lingo and names and blah blah
Sure I don’t disagree. But it’s a video game… the developers don’t need to make it known that a character is LGBTQ. Aside from obvious couples, we have no idea who has sex with whom and with what.
For all you know, Anduin could be gay as hell behind closed doors. That guard you asked for directions to the fp last night? He could be a trans person for all you know.
Use your imagination. Blizzard doesn’t need to make a character and do a press release saying “Introducing King Joseph of Darkmoon Island” … oh yeah btw he’s gay! Like come on.
Saying that LGBTQ deserves representation is just asking for recognition for no reason. For all you know, the entire Stormwind army could be gay. It could be a requirement. But sexual preference is irrelevant in a video game. So there’s no reason to even bring it up lol
Exactly. And asking for “representation” is just asking for attention to be given to you for what? Your sexual preference? Why? Why is your sexual preference more important than mine? I have a fetish for redheads. Does my preference get “representation” too? If not, why? That’s outrageous
