Why LGBT representation in games matters:

Too late it’s already in there. Haha you lost.

I say the same thing and I get called a bigot.

I always say it shouldn’t matter if the character is straight, bi, gay, trans, or whatever, if the character is relatable to ANYONE because of their personality, their trials, and what makes them likable, THAT is what should be touted.

Who cares if Samus is a woman, I like the character.

Who cares if Pelagos used to be a woman? I liked their story.

Heck, in a game I liked (Dreamfall Chapters) there was a character that was a big badass warrior, I liked the character, he was awesome, but what I chalked up as him not understanding why women liked him because of his strength, goes to find out he was gay, and I was happy that I got to understand the character before they made it part of his personality.

MY problem stems from people either hanging on to it like a banner, as in one time we had someone in my guild who would mention they were gay no matter what we were talking about, as if we would instantly forget the next day after they’ve told us for the thousandth time.

Or when they do it as that their only personality trait. “This person is gay!” good, then what? Is that it? Just a one-note character?

I say WHO CARES if you’re gay, trans, bi, or straight. We’re all people, we all have good and bad times in our lives, I care more about people’s character; you can be gay or straight but if you’re a jerk then you’re a jerk, simple as that.

I never implied that; you are making assumptions. I think representing with those characters is perfectly fine and sufficient for the purpose; you evidently do not.

Orientation should not be the defining feature of a “representative” character, unless the entire story line that character is in is wrapped around that one thing. I seriously doubt Blizzard is going to go that far, so you might need to be satisfied with what they HAVE done.

The people asking for blatant OVER-representation just for the sake of it are actually hurting the cause, because that sort of thing attracts more negative attention than positive, as can be seen here on this forum.

Finally, this forum is probably not the best avenue to ask for such things anyways. Contact Blizzard directly or put it on Twitter; i think they watch that more than GD.

50DKP minus for juvenile pettiness. Doesn’t help your case at all.

I’ve seen plenty of others reaching out to Blizzard through other social media platforms. The WoW forums is just as good as any other platform. Blizzard sees our feedback, they just don’t comment on it for obvious purposes.

OP isn’t asking for over-representation. OP want’s there to be a fair amount of representation in the game and thinks it’s a good idea and presented a educational video to back up his views.

When has it ever been the defining feature? There’s no relationship in the game that is only defined by the relationship. There is a story involved even if its minor and one of the most recent happened to involve two gay characters Qadarin and Thiernax. It was a breath of fresh air to see a relationship of two gay partners vs two straight partners. I would like more gay partners to be in the game. There’s barely any LGBT characters in the game. It wouldn’t hurt to add more regardless if you think it’s for the sake of adding LGBT characters. That’s like saying, all straight relationships are for the sake of adding straight relationships.

Fine, just let them be presented in the same fashion as the ones already seen and we’re good. Nothing more is necessary.

It isn’t like saying that at all, you are completely clueless. There don’t NEED to be ANY relationships in this game, except maybe as side notes to the main story. WoW is not about relationships; it isn’t a romance novel.

Can this become the gay mega thread?

Since it’s this big already and it’s the same thing over and over again

Well then if nothing more is necessary, than you agree that no straight partners are necessary? I personally would be fine with Blizzard not focusing on any relationships but that’s just not realistic. If Blizz is going to focus on future relationships, it’s only right for equal representation.

You just don’t know when to quit while you’re behind, do you.

I even AGREED with you on a point, and you STILL have to read something else into it.

50DKP minus for sheer ignorance. I’m done with you.

I responded to you at the same time you posted your response, silly…

You ever been physically beaten for being straight? Ever rounded up and put into camps? Ever bullied in school because you’re straight? Abandoned by your parents?

You ever faced adversity for being straight?

How many people are murdered for being straight? How many countries is it illegal for you to be straight in?

Ever faced one or more of those things daily for years at a time?

Of course not. That’s why you can sit there and say being straight has nothing to do with who you are.

As a very small child, before I even knew my sexuality , I saw Mathew Shepard’s murder on the news. The first thing I learned about gay people (without even understanding what it really meant to be gay) was that they get murdered for being different.

So let’s stop acting like straight people and lgbt people all have the same life experiences. Because we very much do not.

Can Blizzard not do both? Can a multi-billion dollar company not chew gum and walk at the same time? You act like Blizzard can only focus on one aspect of the game at a time. There’s different departments for every part of the game. Writing and character development =/ gameplay and tuning. You also need to just take a few deep breaths take a step back from the forums. Exercise is good if you’re really that stressed. I personally do 30 minutes intense cardio every day. Try it out :woman_shrugging:

Why do you think I should not be petty to the obvious bigot?

Why must I always play nice, not the other side?

I mean, if two posts above is true, you kinda have no choice

When was it that people a certain way weren’t welcome?

Will and Grace

They’re not just bigots- the ones that keep coming back literally hate us.

That’s why they’re so obsessed.

That notorious troll oedon or whatever the hell his name is, I still remember his first post, because it was like a punch in the stomach:

“If they did this it would ruin the only thing I have left in this god forsaken world.”
-oedon on the topic of gay representation in WoW

Translation they want to push Blizz to force Anduin to be gay

Real LGBT would of taken my advice and put their ideas to the devs on their twitter feed that they actually read and not here where they ignore .

@warcraftdevs is a better place to give your requests . They are more likely to read those if you are truly serious on the subject then they are to read their own forums.

So you want them to make a long establish character gay just because ?

Why not push for a new character to fit the roll ? There are characters that often span multiple expansion .

Waidmann, edit your posts and quote people you want to reply to as it is bad etiquette to triple post like you have just done
