The people need to understand more.
LGBT is a group of people. HUMAN BEINGS!
Gays are human beings.
Lesbians are human beings.
Bisexuals are human beings.
Trans women are WOMEN.
And yet the representation of the LGBT community in video games is poorly misguided.

This thread is about that. The LGBTQ+ community deserves equal representation.

I’ve explained it in the past (Not in this thread sadly), but the short answer is - Yes it does.
Media helps shape perception. Both positive and negative. For as much progress as the LGBT+ community has made, there are still great strides to take.
Examples are all over the world from it being punishable by death in some countries, to even “Progressive” countries like the US having one of the two major parties for the 2020 presidential election having overturning gay marriage as part of their platform.
Progress is usually met with fierce backlash, so the need to keep pushing forward is always present. Since media helps shape perception, having positive examples will always be needed. (Look at how much today is considered offensive. We’ve learned that certain stereotypes and characters are not ok)
For every person lovingly accepted by their family, several more are kicked out, put through conversion therapy, or just never get to embrace their true selves. It’s a long complicated issue that I honestly just don’t feel like getting into further right now.
If you like, some things you can look in to are things like the history of queer coding in media here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsO4fZYHQic
Or use the video at the start of this thread as a jumping off point.

You are such a hateful person who can’t stand LGBT representation in-game. Are you trying to hide something?

Thank you for taking the time to answer. I also had no idea people wanted to abolish gay marriage that seems strange. I personally don’t care who marries who. I think though that if people are that hellbent against something the entertainment industry won’t change their minds.
No it’s not. How many confirmed ‘straight’ people are in the game? Outside of some known couples, we don’t know the sexual preference of the vast majority of characters. To that, there was already a great deal of disappointment with characters like Aggra that made 0 sense relative to the story. There was plenty of backlash… and that was for a straight couple.
Also, what a pathetic strawman. No one is arguing that they aren’t human beings. If your sexual identity IS your identity, that’s fine for you, but it’s not how I live my life or interact with people. I would rather they leave characters more ambiguous and let the players decide where they stand.

Imagine having hints of homophobia in 2021, dude.
Get a grip. What difference will it make if we found out Anduin was secretly gay?
Making me feel like I am living under a Nixon presidency.
You can’t even present a good argument other than create ad hominems.

You’d be surprised!
The idea isn’t always to change one specific person’s mind, tho I guess that could happen, more so to change and shape the way society perceives them.
It doesn’t just happen with LGBT+ people, it’s happened with several oppressed groups throughout history. Propaganda is a heck of a thing.
Why does it need representation. What would it add to the overarching storyline.
It adds nothing. You people have been told time again that if you want something for your community than use the built-in community feature to set up events with like minded people. You refuse it because it won’t be shoved into other people’s faces.
Blizzard isn’t going to waste resources, time and money adding stuff for one group of people. Especially when they have more important things to deal with like the current screwed up loot system and legacy raid buff to name 2 examples.

Anduin isn’t gay. The writer stated as such. Sorry your little fantasy is ruined but that’s how it is.

Just weighing in here:
Characters are assumed straight until stated otherwise (And even when stated otherwise…)
Anyway.
Characters never need to have “Proof” to be straight. No one ever questions if you say “I think General Draven and [Stoneborn woman of your choice] are a couple, or former lovers.”
But if you say “I think General Draven and [Stoneborn man of your choice] are a couple for former lovers.” Well, suddenly the demands for a 57 chapter novel come out.
And isn’t that just part of the problem…
Having LGBT representation does not need to add to the overarching storyline. It’s there to be there. Why does adding LGBT characters or stories have to add to the main story of the game? Can they not add little side stories or events? This is a huge world… live and let live…
They already added those side stories or did you forget the gay deer in the night fae campaign
You’re right of course.
Anduin is Bi! I’m glad you’ll stand with me against Bi erasure.

Because it’s normal. It’s literally about 95% of the population. It’s literally how life continues.
The default is straight. That’s reality.

Yeah and that’s nice and I enjoyed that little story tidbit. Does that mean they should stop adding more to the game? No ofcourse not. Now begone troll.
He’s not bi either. He’s straight. Always has been Always will be. The writer for him is the authority.
It is possible that Anduin is bisexual or even a pan, and Blizzard hasn’t discussed this aspect.

Weird how people always seem to thing that gays are sterile.
Anyway, being the majority isn’t the point, is it? I think you know that
No ones saying to not add anything. What we’re saying is dont add it just because of gay.
