Why isn't layering gone?

Because populations are still high?

Not quite. He did promise a couple of weeks – in the context of an expected rapid drop-off in population. People who complain just like to ignore the latter and focus on the former.

This is my biggest gripe. I want to play an MMORPG-- I want to relive the experience I had with many of the online role-playing games I played 15+ years ago. This technology may have been around in some limited capacity, but it was not utilized the way it is now. I don’t want it in my game. Remove it, PLEASE.

Queue has nothing to do with layering. You sit in queue with layering or without. Its the actual ingame zones that would be overcrowded without it, and while dynamic respawn would have been a solution for that they did not want that.

Personally I believe they just spend as little money as possible on servers so they know exactly what would happen if they overfilled it without the layering technique.

not exactly the same analogy like you claim- one’s for safety, the other’s just for convenience.

They’ll need to add temporary sharding to zones if the entire server decides to zerg the world boss.

No. They said they would try to do it in a few weeks. They never promised. That is something the community made up.

They said they will try to have it gone by a few weeks…but promised to have it gone for phase 2. The promise was to remove it by phase 2. Not to have it removed within a few weeks of launch.

That’s were a lot of the confusion from the community is.

I wish they could at least turn it off at night when the population on most servers is low or medium.

you can auto switch layers from entering certain areas though. i noticed this whenever walking back and forth through the basement in the silverpine forest graveyard quest area. i walked in to pick up quests and my game freezes/ character dissapears for a second whenever you enter and exit the entrance and the players inside and outside the area change.

You are misinterpreting what he said.

Read the god damn reddit ama.

You’re looking like a fool.

How exactly am I misinterpreting “We promise we will do this a few weeks in.”

It was in the context of an expected population drop-off, but he did specifically say that.

Somebody’s looking like a fool, but it probably isn’t the guy who’s posting a video of the developer promising to do something a few weeks in.

From Pazorax, Lead Software Engineer:

[Q: What are plans for phase 2 if some realms are horrifically overpopulated at 50K+ players? Will layering stay?)

A: We’re absolutely committed to reaching one layer per realm by Phase 2. This is why we need to have upper bounds on the number of players connected to the realm at one time, and queue players past that point. That, of course, is why we’re willing to open new servers if necessary, and we’ve even started doing that in response to the incredibly positive reception we’ve ha

They also thought BFA was a good game. lol shows you how lost they’re when it comes to being insync with the player base huh?

That’s nothing. The Heroes of the Storm team also didn’t promise anything about Classic.

Unfortunately, your claim was that the developers never promised this, so you’re going to have to deal with that video interview where Ion did, in fact, do just that.

Maybe your server sucks or something, mine is stupid crowded on basically every layer.

They’ve definitely scaled it way back on Mankrik. There’s so many people out questing everywhere. Feels like launch day.

Wrong, it’s by the end of the first phase and before phase 2 starts. NOT after 2 weeks. Too many servers still have ques.

Go back to retail if you dont like it.

Actually at first it was after a few weeks. The next word was a couple months.
Now its before phase 2.

No word on how long before phase 2, just before phase 2.
