We have a guy in our guild. He is dear to all of us, and we all rejoice in every second we get to spend playing with him. Deteriorating vision and motor function has made it more and more difficult for him to play at the level he was accustomed to. He was a main raid healer for a long, long time, and he’s had to turn that in for ranged DPS over time. He also has to take a lot of meds for his condition, and we began teasing him with the nickname “Fifth Affix” in M+ because when he got really sleepy from the meds, he could end up pulling extra groups and running off cliffs, etc. He loved the name and it stuck. His attitude toward this horrible thing that’s happening to him has been inspirational, to say the least. Whenever someone falls below him on the meter (which is often), he tells them they’re the fifth affix for the day.
Over the course of BfA, we started getting more and more new players – I mean NEW to WoW players. It got to the point where an M+ run with my guild was…50/50 gonna be REAL painful. We decided to call the entire guild Fifth Affix, and it’s just a fit for who and what we are. Self-deprecating casual heroic raiding guild with some great players, some middling players, and some openly-acknowledged extra affix players. And we have an absolute blast together.
Where did you get your guild name and what does it mean to you?
I made Frostwolf back when I was 17. And much like now, I was big into world PvP. So, me and my buddy found out the Don Carlos hat was brought in during BC. We went and we got it. And then we rode around Gadgetzan and killed everybody we could. Thus, I made a comment: “Dude. We’re like. Frostwolf Banditos.”
So I went and made it. And it means a lot to me because it was something I did way back when I was young, dumb, and just wanted to have fun playing a video game.
Our guild from way back in the way back was Foo. It’s a name for placeholder variables in coding, and our old guild leader thought it was catchy and cute. It was also slang for “fool” and people thought it was cool back then.
The only people in this particular guild are me and I come with cats. Well, one cat but I want it to be cats. Unfortunately said cat is old and won’t have other cats in the house.
Since this is a fantasy game, I am living my fantasy of multiple cats. My hunter pets are cats. If I have a pet out on any character, it’s a cat.
You should do pet battles and get the Crazy Cat Lady title. I’m serious. That would be amazeballs. You could be Ravalstana, the Crazy Cat Lady, from Meandmine and the cats guild.
I am absolutely serious: If you need help, let me know. To do this, you’ll need to get started on pet battles right away. If you’ve never done that, here’s my advice.
Go to your Draenor garrison and get your Town Hall to rank 3 (if it isn’t already) so that you can start the Menagerie. Trust me. This is step one. It becomes crucial later on. As many alts as you have with a rank 3 town hall…do it. Each one will get you a special item that automatically levels a pet to 25. Don’t worry about it yet…just get it going.
Look up the Iron Starlette pet. It’s a quest reward. Go and get one.
Look up the Anubisath idol. If you can’t get one on your own, buy one off the AH.
Look up the Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling pet. If you cannot make one with an engineer, buy one on the AH.
Well… might take me a while. I am a new player. I only have one town hall (I just boosted my main when I decided to change to horde) but I’ve checked and it is rank 3. What is “the Menagerie”? Is that a quest I need to find?
Obviously our guild name is from one of the greatest movies of all time with one of the best RAID teams ever assembled. (watch the movie… you’ll understand)
Once you have a rank 3 town hall, there will be a quest from the lady in your menagerie. A troll lady for horde and a worgen lady for alliance. Either way, they’ll give you a quest to go and get a special stone from your garrison mine. When you do, they’ll give you a purple stone. Just collect that, put it in your bank, and see if you can’t get two other alts at a rank 3 garrison to do the same quest and get two more of those purple stones.
They are account bound, and you can send the other two to the main toon if you like, to keep them all together.
It’s just a setup for later when you start collecting pets in earnest. Draenor and the garrison menagerie play a huge role after you’ve gotten off the ground with the pet battles.
There are some great videos on YouTube about getting started, as well.
There used to be a Horde guild called Jerk Squad who always used to gank Alliance on my server, so we made our guild cause we thought it would be fun to fight them back.
