By the way, I’m considered part of your community. You know the A at the end? But I don’t consider myself apart of the community because the group on these forums are so divisive. You all cry for inclusivity, but in practice, that’s not the case.
If it wasn’t for the division, I’d be happy to be apart of the community. But it’s not in my nature to be divisive.
IMHO, Azeroth is supposed to be a setting where there is no hate. People don’t look at LGBTQ+ stuff as out-of-the-ordinary so it doesn’t need to be celebrated any more than being straight does in the real world.
IRL, the first Pride was a riot that happened in 1969 after New York police went into a gay bar and murdered patrons. Pride exists to promote self-affirmation, dignity, equality, and increased visibility of LGBTQ+ people as a social group. Pride doesn’t need to exist in Azeroth because queer people in the setting don’t routinely have their dignity, equality, and social rights challenged by the social hierarchy of Azeroth. No one in Stormwind has to worry about whether Turalyon will decree that the Alliance won’t recognize the legitimacy of their marriage, or that the people of Orgrimmar will stone them in the streets for holding hands with a same-gender partner. These are all real things that real LGBTQ people worry about every single day, and we use Pride to show the people who’d oppress us that we refuse to go back.
What Blizzard can do, in my opinion, is to continue to make fun references to Pride like the beach chair for the queer community that celebrates our struggles and gives us real-people self affirmation while also allowing Azeroth to be a place where we can engross ourselves in a story without having to be reminded of real-world challenges. An Azeroth where Pride isn’t needed is an Azeroth where people don’t hate us for being who we are.
right. so holidays we have celebrated in the united states (the country the game is created and maintained) since quite literally before the country was formed are more controversial than pride?
By 1860, fourteen states including several from New England had adopted Christmas as a legal holiday. In 1875, Louis Prang introduced the Christmas card to Americans. He has been called the “father of the American Christmas card”. On June 28, 1870, Christmas was formally declared a United States federal holiday.
Thanksgiving has been celebrated nationally on and off since 1789, with a proclamation by President George Washington.
Easter isn’t a federal holiday in the United States.
Swatting entails generating an emergency law enforcement response against a target victim under false pretenses. Swatters do this by making phone calls to emergency lines like 911 and falsely reporting a violent emergency situation, such as a shooting or hostage situation.
Not hard to do a Google search, just ask “What is Swatting”. It’s a VERY dangerous thing to do to some one, people and innocents have been hurt badly because of it.
Hate is an over statement. Problem is, it isn’t really you, but you know who. The person using Twitter to attack others, after getting pulled up for talking down on others, and acting like they speak on others behalf. All this could’ve ended a long time ago, and we’ve all could’ve made piece a while ago and move forward, but that one person, who would probably also put me up onto their twitter like they always does, will always look at continuing.
