Why is there no MMR system for random BGs? Why are we still using this antiqued system? Is it too much to ask to get grouped with people of a similar skill level or at least gear level? League of Legends used hidden MMR for unranked games and it works out fine. Why not use it in WoW?
Bg wins are not an accurate way of measuring individual player skill. That’s why.
but there should be such system for e…g how much healing/dps you did, how many objectives capped, defended would based amount of how much you can earn rating.
That would help to make gap and not get queued with afk bots.
I mean technically we have RBGs for that.
I mean it does have stats listed under the character panel. W/L of each bg, how many deaths in the world, shoot can even get an achieve for hugging a player you just killed in pvp.
I think some are worried this could bleed over into interference with rbgs -which I would love to see go solo que- but all the sellers would get the shaft (which I’m totally cool with.)
Monsters will stat bomb and butcher lovebies into jelly with MMR - just like CoD and other games.
BG’s are a nice way to play some chill games. People like to mess around in them and not take it serious. I don’t wanna play against sweats in normal bgs.
There’s no MMR because BGs operate in a fast food mentality that they’re just trying to get matches going as fast as possible so people aren’t sitting and waiting excessively. I don’t know why they don’t use the same system in RBGs where your faction can play as the opposite on the map if there’s not enough enemy faction teams queued up.
^This. The priority is to fire games as quickly as possible.
So… the argument is that people with high MMR will play against people with low MMR if they tank their MMR. Even though they(High MMR players) are already playing against lower level players and the low level players have to deal with groups/raids of these types. Just do nothing is the suggestion?
They’re also the entry point of PvP. Which currently with WoW’s evolution and time length not having a system to let new players not get butchered and be put off of by it would be preferable.
With the Mercenary System they could just flip sides and just have people versus their own faction. Just disable comms between the two or convert their language for the game.
Skill based matchmaking is nothing more than catering to bad players that can’t adapt. Random bg’s are meant to be relaxed and not tryhard matches with everyone being the same.
Based upon what? When BGs were released they were used as a ranking tool for PvP. Because Blizzard abandoned them for Arena it’s now a casual play thing even though casual play is only for the above average?
Skill based match making is intended for players to learn in their own leagues and excel beyond them. Having a senior player go up against a newbie just to smash them in their first entry to PvP isn’t helpful. With gear disparity already occurring in the first season of SL where people are getting globaled it further suggests a MMR/match making process is needed.
“Skill based matchmaking is nothing more than catering to bad players that can’t adapt.”
I’m sorry but that statement makes zero sense.
I agree that random BGs should be chill but I’d like to see some semblance of a balanced team. RBGs are way more fun because you get much more balanced teams in terms of gear, skill, and team comp. I’m not saying we try to perfectly balance the teams but just having some kind of matchmaking system would be a huge improvement. A hidden MMR would be the simplest way to do this.
Close matches are always more fun than blowouts.
The problem is that for a lot of folks since it’s a video game, they pretend skill matters, but in the end, easy wins, feeling powerful, trumps the whole things should be fair which is kind of sad.
It actually does make sense coming from that type of player. They keep on mixing up skill, casual, fun, rewards. In the end he’s simply defending why he should be able to roll over alts/casuals since he “earned” it.
The irony is when they blubber about skill and bad players. Sure he’s going on about skill based matchmaking but the OP was also talking about gear as well. This guy just forgot to include it because it didn’t suit his narrative
It’s because it is casual PvP, a skirmish. You join to have casual fun with or without friends. You join to test gear, builds, macro’s. BGs are a place to come and go as you please. Everyone joins a casual BG for different reasons. It’s a place to practice and enjoy before getting into a serious environment.
No, but right now ilvl determines the outcome of any BG if the difference is notable.
The gear disparity is getting out of hand, and will only get worse as time moves on.
If casual means “come and go as you please” that makes sense but, the definition should be expanded to where the player should have a learning experience too. Having a multiglad group show up to face off against players who have only played WoW for a few months and/or players who are 20-30ilvls lower isn’t casual. It’s a pub stomp game at that point. Unejoyable for the casual player and if the multiglads aren’t sadistic they won’t enjoy a boring/easy game.
No the issue is the moment you give people a way to specifically target lowbies and casuals, they will gun for that 24/7 relentlessly. At least now it’s largely randomized hodge podge of players in gear/skill/role.
Twinks have been GY camping and then dropping before a BG is done just to not gain EXP for a few expansions, people will absolutely, positively use MMR to snipe casuals into dust. It happens in every single game with MMR.

It’s a pub stomp game at that point.
Most casual PvP is a global fest that is why people continue to que for it. No one is looking for competition in a casual BG. It isn’t supposed to be competitive and it can’t be. It’s casual and thus you will have Min/Max’s deleting ppl that don’t which is part of the game. When you get deleted you should be motivated to get better gear so you can too delete others. You will have ppl fighting on the roads, people going for KBs, people AFK… It’s a casual BG and this is a cycle.
