Why is soft Ress a thing? Seems nonsense

If it’s part of MS, then it’s part of rolling MS

This lets people who are targeting something specific have an increased chance to get it, if you have run the same raid 15x and all you need is that trinket which won’t drop, having your 1 soft reserve be that trinket is much more appealing than having to free roll against everyone its an upgrade for.

Without sr why would someone that only needs one item join your run vs a gdkp knowing that 5 other people will be rolling on that item while getting other items to boot.

Sr allows you to target that item and those that need other items can target others spreading loot out. While those needing only one item or few items can stack the res on one item to really increase there odds of leaving with something. If you need many items you won’t stack on one as not optimal. Those that need a lot will leave with something also most likly by spreading out srs and being able to roll on less wanted stuff. Making a win win system. That being said sr falls apart once your past the bosses you need stuff for they leave. But almost every system has that flaw and one of the reason gdkp is liked so much rewards staying till the end.

Because people are cowards
No one wants to earn their loot, they would much rather go into raids with entitlement that way they can AFK in Dalaran majority of the time

Yeah so this makes no sense. They still had to do the content to get the piece they are reserving. They also have to have it actually drop. You can go 1st week and get it or down the same boss 20 weeks in a row and never see it. You equating SR to lack of effort is ignorant and I dont even go to a run that has something on reserve.
