Today I was linked this article on wow head about how blizzard will be giving away free character boosts AND BFA for free to each player who hits 60 in classic wow.
Does this not seem wrong? What about those of us that payed $60+ for the expansion? Will we be seeing a refund for the money we spent before the opportunity to get the game for free was even a thing? How will we be compensated for spending our money on whats considered to be one of the worst expansions ever released? How is this not a slap in the face to those of us who stayed loyal and played through 8.0, 8.1 and 8.2? Will you be justifying this by saying we are getting a free character boost which is “valued” at $60?
You owe us an explanation here Blizzard. This seems like a predatory cash grab and unethical. Its almost as if you dont value the players who stayed loyal throughout this objectively terrible expansion because you’re now seeing an influx of subscribers thanks to classic. I for one would like some answers. How do you justify this?

From what I understand this has been taken down.
I am confused though. How would a freebie be considered a cash grab and unethical?

Are to going to be complaining next xpac when bfa is free with a sub? Are you complaining that vanilla through bfa is free? I mean you paid $60 each right?
It’s a promotion, and you have access to it too (at least for the 110 boost), it’s not like classic costs extra.
Idk why everyone keeps having a meltdown every time blizzard does a promotion…like good lord people…

Based on continued subscriptions as well as potential cosmetic sales and game time token sales which players will sell to gain gold, which will be needed for players who have been gone for multiple expansions.
It sounds like a typical promotional gimmick to me, not some unethical thing. Even if this is for real and still on offer, it would be utterly useless to me. I have all the copies of BfA I want (4), and I really, really dislike boosts.

I cant even begin to explain how complacent you are with the way blizzard is running things.
Because in this day and age - any time a company does anything it’s considered problematic and a cash grab because well… reasons. Really secret reasons. That we are not cleared to hear.

Your not answering my question.
There are currently 5 or 6 xpacs for free just with a sub. Why aren’t you complaining about that? You paid $60 each didn’t you?
Get over it. It’s a promotion.

I just explained how its a cash grab.
It seems that it may have been a fake post and was taken down. So it may not even be a valid offer.
Even so, what it offered was a chance to play BfA and get the free 110 boost that came with the expansion for those players who were returning to WoW to play Classic. The ones that already have been playing BfA and had a sub got the Classic for free.
I think it’s great that we could possibly get more people into the game. This is a great move by Blizzard.

Or maybe, just maybe, people aren’t talking about it because it’s not a big deal, and you’re blowing things waaaaaaay out of proportion.
It’s been a year since BfA comes out. I know this may sound surprising, but many things go on sale after a year. In this case, there will be some who will get it soon while others will take months to get the “free BfA and level boost.”
And that’s even if the promotion is even happening as Blizzard hasn’t officially announced it.
And I really don’t like this mentality of “I should be rewarded for doing something I don’t like.” If you think BfA is the fun bad, then quit. You are not entitled to a reward just because you stayed subbed; your reward is that you got to play the game while others didn’t. And if you don’t like the game, then you shouldn’t be playing it. It’s a very simple fix.
Essentially: OP is trying to start a mob on information leaked on another sight and reported in by WoWHead, who even has a statement that the supposed “promotional post” has been taken down since it was seen.

Wow there are a lot of assumptions and what if scenarios in that explanation.
First off, people are already subscribed so that’s a big no. Second, “potential” cosmetic sales… that’s like saying having the launcher is a cash grab because there are other games listed. And advertisements for other items. So that’s a big no too since they already see all that playing classic. Finally, you’re assuming people will be forced to buy tokens simply because they’ve been gone for a couple expansions. Also, an assumption with little weight other than you are looking for problems.

This reminds me of when Warcraft the Movie came out and offered free accounts to ticket holders. My hubby made an account, played it for about 15 minutes, logged off and never touched it again. He just couldn’t figure it out. lol
It’s a good business move for Blizzard.
I complained about it when they made the expansions free. I continue to think that its wrong that all of us had to pay 60 dollars per expansion and then they just made 90% of them free. Just like I think it’ll be wrong when the next expansion comes out and they do the same thing.
I dont understand how none of you seem to get that this is messed up. Its a cash grab because of how they will benefit. Token sales which people will buy to get a head start on gold. Cosmetic sales which will happen. Not to mention how this has the potential to mes up the economy even more in game via token sales.
Companies are allowed to run promotions to try to drum up more business. “Promotional deal” and “cash grab” are not synonymous with each other.
Why do people feel the need to make up flaws for Blizzard, when Blizzard already has plenty of actual flaws?
this act is blizard performing what is known in economics as “price discrimination” where they try to maximize their profits by trying to entice more potential buyers with a more lucrative deal. It legal and is the same mechanic as when companies send coupons, or have those “buy 10, get 1 free” loyalty cards, or when airlines sell empty seats to 3rd party redistributors, or financial aid for colleges, or when you haggle down the street dog at 2am from $4 to $2.
This could be your first hint that you’re wrong.
Also, I don’t know how you missed the several threads I’ve already seen crop up on this exact topic. I assume you looked at the first five threads on General and didn’t see enough outrage for your tastes?

To me its a mistery how ppl can argue against free stuff.
If it helps the game it does help me (as I am a player with a subscription). Now ok, if the boost is giving to those who have BFA already I think it would be also nice, but that is just a minor detail to me.
