I’m 2-shotting quest mobs. I don’t get to perform any semblance of a rotation against world enemies, because they die way too fast, despite the quest text indicating these are dangerous creatures.
To me, it just feels like a grind. I can’t imagine this is stimulating to new players.

It is a grind. Leveling is always a grind.
New players have to level in DF and are unable to use Chromie Time. Their experience is different

A new player’s experience could be waaaay different than yours though

You’re more right than you know. New players get several “dragonflight” buffs while leveling, including one that outright prevents death.

That sounds like it would have been super handy when I was first learning how to play.

Am I the only one who thinks people like OP want to ruin the game? When I think of a basic quest mob, I think of straight up 1 shotting them, especially when doing low level quests. As I progress in levels and get into more powerful zones I expect to have to try a bit harder. Once I get to near end game, or actual end game is when I expect to use a rotation and maybe run into elites or harder things.
Could you guys imagine having to blow cooldowns and run a rotation on every freaking mob you encounter? This is such an unhinged and insane thing to ask for. Even in VANILLA, you just had to hit a couple of smites or something to kill quest mobs at low level.

Why?
Because it’s WoW, it’s supposed to be fun, new players don’t have a full set of heirlooms, and they shouldn’t be prevented from getting to endgame content.
If you die constantly, you’ll quit before you remotely learn your class/spec.

Because that’s classic stuff.
Am running the game fresh with a couple, pacing on just quest gear seems about right.
Atleast as far as DF/BfA seem to get the right gear/open world quest difficulty.
Am also playing Hardcore Anniversary as yet another Priest (this time night elf) and liking it too for a different reason.

I mean, I started the game as a mage all the way back in 2009. I couldn’t even tell you how many times I died while leveling up.
It was brutal to say the least. Yet here I am, many years later. Dying a lot doesn’t necessarily lead to people quitting, but I can see why it might be off-putting to some. In my case, it probably had a lot to do with the fact I came from FF XI where everything everywhere was a chore and dying was incredibly punishing and accepted as a way of life.

Leveling hasn’t really been a thing since early WoW.
They’re trying their best to herd everyone into endgame, which ironically isn’t as fun as leveling, lol.
I really enjoyed WoW more, when leveling was an ordeal, and it really felt special to have someone at 60 or max or whatever.
These days, you’re expected to have an alt army with all professions and be self-sufficient on your own.
It’s kinda gross, I always had one ‘main’, maybe 2-3.
I feel like that way of playing, just isn’t that viable anymore.

Actually 2-shotting every enemy ruins the game. I could fight that exact mob in classic fresh and it doesn’t go down remotely that easily. We’re more at risk of losing new players to boredom.

I don’t know what new players you’ve been playing with, but I’ve recruited at least a dozen new WoW players in the last year from work, friends, and family, and they all suck at the game. They think it’s too hard and too overwhelming. What new players are you referencing?

There’s not a soul that finds leveling in retail hard.

Some day you will learn that things easy to some are extremely challenging to others. I think M+ and raiding is easy, and with minimal gear and effort I can usually do a decent early season push before I quit and go back to casual mode. Other people actually think it’s hard to do +12 keys, I do not. Some people think it’s hard to push rating in PvP, I do not.
I don’t try to equate my own ability to the ability of someone new. They don’t know the game, the systems, the combat, spells etc… everything is new and all at once making simple tasks like dodging a giant floor circle hard. When I run dungeons with these people and call out simple things they are dumbfounded as to how I know what’s happening. I’d ask again, what new players do you know? The new players I’ve gotten into the game, and the new player realm we made a guild on shows that people do in fact think this game is hard.

No I’m aware that WoW endgame is hard. Even basic movement and keybinds are hard to learn for some people.
Even players who are unfamiliar with putting their hand on WASD will not find questing in retail hard.
It sounds to me you’re making them do dungeons, which are harder than open world.

The number of people that would find difficulty in leveling is incredibly low. The number of people who would find difficulty in a +12 key is clearly much higher.
The simple fact that <30% even get KSM (+7s) would be evidence of this.

Thankfully we have retail for that.
Classic can be such a slooogggg.

We have 8 dungeons and a raid at any given time for that.
Sadly though, you’re right, that’s “retail” when you boil it down.

Yea good luck with that. With these twitch gamers, any resistance to instant gratification and they start foaming at the mouth.

May i direct you to m+ +12 keys would love to see you solo a single mob. Retail is a end dame orinted game. Classic is a rehash of the same 4 fetch quests with added low drop rate all while you use the same 2-3 spells or abilities soooooo stimulating -_- wow leveling has never been engaging or stimulating. Only end game raiding keys etc is fun
