I definitely wouldn’t say consistent. Leveling in vanilla compared to now is like day and night. That may have been some kind of motto of theirs, considering how absolutely tedious other MMOs at the same time were in leveling, but the experience now is astronomically different. Examples, having to wait until level 40 to get a 60% ground mount (today at that same level, you get a 310% flying mount), the long traverses you had to take for leveling, etc. Today, you get so much so early, purple gear isn’t so rare that people had an evacuation for.
What rotation? The one which is modified by talents up until level 80 and depends on trinkets and stat breakdowns? They’d not be able to practice that at low level anyway.
You’re right, I don’t know actual numbers. But I see murlocs above maybe 1/8 of the people I see in dornogal, so there are more new players than people realize.
I agree that there are. A popular statement I see about all MMOs is “people now a days do not want to play MMOs, there are not many new players anymore”. I never knew what to make of that.
World of Warcraft has always worked as a “machine” with many moving parts to come together and create a special experience for different types of players. With the introduction of WoW Classic mode I believe is when the leveling experience became much more streamlined and simple within retail. Now we have options for many different types of players still, in perhaps an even better form.
Retail now more than ever revolves around a max level experience. Nearly almost feeling as if your adventure is just beginning when you enter the new content!
Good. As a long term player, i do not want to level ANOTHER toon through 7-8 expansions, just to get to end game.
And as a new player, i would be heart broken and tremendously discouraged if i have to level through 7-8 expansions, JUST to get to where everyone else is.
Lets stop pretending that questing was how you “learned” your class.
“go kill 10 wolves and bring me their teeth”
“awesome, now i know how to use my defensive on this AoE damage”
Just stop.
my expectations that you brought anything useful, or that a post like this hasn’t already been made over 400 times, were already 0.
end game, back in vanilla, started at max level. You couldn’t raid, until 60. Most of the BiS gear, was from end game content, even in dungeons.
Then go back to classic. That’s why there are multiple WoW versions.
FFXIV is primarily an FF game that takes place in an MMO.
You can be a max level character in FFXIV and do the MSQ. MSQ isn’t required to level a character. If you do level a character through the MSQ, actually have to stop doing the MSQ to pass the level cap gates they have in place periodically. Thus, forcing you do to side quests, extra dungeons, FATEs, etc.
The other means:
FATES give bad EXP ever since they were nerfed back in ARR.
The Trust system is to slow to use efficiently.
Side quests barely give EXP and they don’t repeat.
Fastest way to level is dungeons… just like here, in WoW.
MSQ isn’t a strong leveling experience. It’s a literal gatekeep by the developers to force you to “enjoy” the story. The same story that died half way through Endwalker and is horrible in DW. Oh, and it is ONE TIME per character. Quests don’t repeat. So I want to level a different job on that same character, I have to level by other means.
There’s no quality in the leveling in FFXIV. It’s just as tedious, if not more, than WoW.
FFXIV doesn’t have an endgame do strive to anyway. They cut content in Endwalker and DW.
Why does this have to be the matirity level of the average forum user? Why is this what we all have to be subjected to on a regular basis? Some rash punk set out to keyboard warrior.
You know you didnt start this thread for any real discussion. Its blatantly obvious you /want/ to be an obnoxiois twit. And i can’t help but wonder, why? What possesses one to act like such a child?
Every person exposed to OPs snark dribble is now worse off for it. Why is this the best society can offer? Hundreds of scholars, thousands of hours put in to the creation of the internet, forums, games, technology… And THIS is what we get to show for it?
This is what the word is currently producing, whiny, ignorant, jaded, abusive, angsty, uncoopertive, empty, vapid discourse from adults that sound and act 13. The sad part is I guarantee this is some 30-something professional and they probably think they’re coming across as intelligent and owning everyone, dunking left and right. Im not even engaging with such low energy. I just wantes to say… Wow, no wonder the world is falling apart when this is what most interractions are dissolving into. No wonder the most of the world isnt reproducing.
Its just sad, all around. No, I won’t answer your stupid question, you’re simply a waste.
I was thinking about this today. I think there needs to be a twink comp in different brackets at lower lvls, with decent rewards for winning or topping the charts in that bracket. They could start at lvl 25-35, 35-45, and 55-60. With only the talents available at that level. Top reward could be an upgradable legendary that maxes out at 60 or something.
I don’t know it’s just worth slowing down the lvls a bit and give ppl incentive to stay in them longer.
Eta i didnt know there was a big debate going on in this thread and i didnt read any of it lol.
Most WoW players don’t want a long drawn out story they get to level through with days of leveling experiences. The players in Retail want to get to endgame and grind ilevel instead and leaderboards.
If you want a drawn out story GW2 and FFXIV have that. This game is where the big girls go to play like me.
There’s fake hard and then there’s Retail hard.
But to be like for serious, it’s cause Blizzard has zero clue how to make a truly engaging modern leveling experience that feels great. And that’s why I’m looking forward to Ghostcrawler’s new mmorpg.
This thread is almost 20 years too late. Besides, what is an experience that you could only experience as a non-max level that is missing? The only thing I can really think of is the more gradual power progression, but how do you reset this every expansion without the borrowed power system that most people hate?
With the world scaled to your level as it is, you can play through the zones and stories as you want. What’s the difference between doing a dungeon at max level vs while leveling in an expansion? I dont think you can practically have something like deadmines where no one has their full kit by a long shot and then later leveling dungeons like Ulda & Mara where kits are more involved.
At this point, levels only serve as a boundary between expansions so that blizz doesn’t have to balance gear from previous expansions when the new expansions come out.
