Why is Jaina more powerful than First Arcanist Thalyssra

Jaina was able to “Just Say No” to drugs - unlike those Nightborne addicts.

Well the answer is kinda simple. First off she was incredibly talented. Second, she has had some of the best training the world can provide… Archmage Antondias or whatever his name was, then Aegwynn herself trained Jaina and advised her… plus she has been in constant war, unlike Thalyssra she has been using her own power, not the night wells and her experience of combat is most likely much higher. Also nightwell and well of eternity are fairly different… the well of eternity was literally the power of azeroth… the nightwell was a minor font of power in comparison and it was too busy literally sustaining them nor did she ever tap into it directly as the nightborne leader did. Also Jaina has her staff imbued with the power of Raiden himself… plus exposure to the mana bomb… i mean she is literally a walking mage nightmare of doom.

That’s called plot armor.

This is just a symptom of why long lived races in a fantasy setting aren’t really that good of an idea.

Elves should just “always look young”, even when at old age, instead of living 10,000 years or whatever. Otherwise, they should just have a similar lifespan to humans.

“Living eternally” sans outside influences sounds cool, but in fiction it really causes more questions and problems than needed.

It’s one reason that many stories often find ways to put long lived characters “on ice” for extended periods of time so they won’t be busy improving their skills or doing things.

“She’s two thousand years old. Technically. But she was frozen in a magical barrier for almost all of it.”

Not far off. Humans ramp up very quickly to obscenely high power levels and then die off because of their short lifespans. Other races don’t ramp up so quickly because time is on their side.

Thalyssra is maybe a bit out of practice for reasons mentioned above, but has inherent magical ability and all the time in the world to perfect it. Jaina has been mage-ing her little brains out for as long as she’s been alive. In time, Thalyssra will wipe up the floor with Jaina… assuming Jaina doesn’t die off first.

There is also a matter of the disparity between “casual experience gained through years of safe usage” and “combat experience where every spell cast is a threat”

A man who casually uses water magic for centuries may know how to do some crazy stuff, but the way he uses water magic is far different from a guy who first learned how to use it to simply stay alive on the battlefield.

Combat experience is where you get the nasty crazy dirty tricks. Where you go a wee bit crazy, mix some of your blood into the water as you shape it into a razor sharp edge before letting it fly, shattering into shrapnel before it reaches the enemy.

In a short and fast fight, which most are, the guy who has the combat experience and knows the dirty nasty tricks is going to have the advantage.

Especially if that combat experience is recent and fresh in his mind. Which would of course apply to pretty much any short lived race.

Now when you start talking about ritual magic, then the guy who has been using water magic for the past two thousand years can do the kind of stuff that human mages can only have wet dreams about.

Because he can take his time, he knows the proper amount of magical pressure to press into the glyphs as he crafts them. He knows the right kind of pigments for painting the objects used. He probably knows big name elementals who will assist him in the casting of the spell.

That is where the long lived race will have the advantage. When they can apply their centuries of slow and methodical experience at a careful and precise pace.

They can do the heavy world altering stuff on their own that would probably take a dozen shorter lived mages to even hope to pull off.

They probably also know about the kinds of spells and rituals that most magicians didn’t even know could exist.

I mean, from the way they talked about the Night Warrior Ritual its implied that only a handful of Night Elves even REMEMBERED that it existed, let alone knew HOW to do it.

In general when you spend 10,000 years stuck in a bubble smelling your own farts you tend to lose track of advancements

Also humans have historically had more magical potential then elves it’s actually referenced when elves first found humans and started teaching them magic they were actually terrified at how quickly humans managed to master it.

The nightwell is nothing compared to the well of eternity, Azshara drew her powers from a scepter infused with its very water. It was basically the purest, most refined, most saturated azerite in existence. Even after being destroyed, it’s energies could never really dissipate, and they are what causes the turbulent waters around the maelstrom and nazjatar

I will take a grizzled veteran who has known battle for years over someone who has only practiced for years.

You can practice and plan all that you want, but as someone once said, even the best plans fall apart upon the moment battle is joined.

Practice and training is important of course. Your not going to get to the point of being a grizzled veteran with out it. But it is experience that will teach you all the tricks of surviving those battles.

She gets waifu bonus.
All the gaming nerds who worship her give her power

Jaina I feel would be the heir apparent of the title of Guardian.

Can not argue there. Now back to game. Forums is just to interesting. It like walking in a bar with a shot out going on. No fun

In that same regard, she flew the boat from God knows how far, was able to cast a ring of frost so powerful that it wiped out the plague, froze over several siege weapons in thick blocks of ice and instant killed everything it touched. Then she turned the cannon, fired a huge volley of cannons, then continued to fly the ship while she fought the army and then teleported the Alliance leaders out of Lordaeron.

Meanwhile, ALL the mages of Dalaran in Warcraft 3 made a bubble around their city to keep out the dead and still failed in stopping them. Wish Jaina was there to put that ring of instant death frost down.

No. The true reason is as follows.

The Chad Titan Creation vs The Virgin Mutant Troll

First off - Really? A 5 Month Necro? REALLY? Anyway…

  1. Jaina was trained by multiple insanely powerful Mages, including a Guardian of Tirisfal.
  2. Jaina’s staff was originally Antonidas’, one of the strongest mages that we’ve known.
  3. Said staff is charged with the Power of Lei Shen - which we now know from lore was also charged with the power of Ra-Den, which was also charged with the power of one of the Titan’s Souls.
  4. She absorbed a Very Large Amount of Arcane Energy from the Focusing Iris when the Explosion of the Mana Bomb at Theramore occurred. This is why her hair turned white. She barely made it out of Theramore, Rhonin pushed her through the Portal at the very last second. Absorbing that much power would obviously empower her.
  5. She channeled the Focusing Iris after this for quite a long period of time. Kalecgos has stated before that Mages cannot directly use the Focusing Iris, as it will have a lasting effect on them. This also likely contributed to her power increase.

She’s been in a constant war for years, without having a break, so she’s had plenty of time to hone her skills.

Whereas Thalyssra was isolated under a bubble for 10,000 years, where she was forced to fight for rations and never really had to use her magic in combat.

We’re outright told that Suramar lived in peace until Gul’dan showed up. That means that most likely, things like magic were practiced in their spare time, and not something they did every day.

Which means Thalyssra only really had maybe a few months to actually use her magic to its full potential. She may have 10,000 years of practice magic experience, but she hasn’t really used it in combat. Do you not remember when we first met her, she could barely hold off the Withered?

Jaina is the best known Frost Mage… Elisande and Azshara seem to be the best known Arcane Mages.

We haven’t yet seen any master Fire Mages yet…

Heh.

Jaina is stronger than Khadgar and Medivh combined, and also has the thickest of plot armors.

Her whole character makes absolutelly no sense, I imagine if she showed up last expansion the whole Legion invasion would have been obliterated on the Broken Shore.

She is probably the poorest written character in the entire warcraft universe, and that is a feat considering we have Green Jesus. Her power has been increasing at a geometrical scale since mop for pretty much no reason.

Also, I’m still salty she could just do a lolteleport-bye at 5%, I mean, that is just bad writing all over the place.
