I play mostly healers in dungeons and healing raids isn’t as fun as dungeons imho. I feel like my role in a 5 man plays more of an impact on the results than a 20 man.
Same reason I like 10 man battlegrounds and 3v3 arena mostly.
Never been a raider. I don’t like having to set a time each week to do them. The rewards aren’t even that great. I hardly ever hear about people getting something cool in a raid. The story is bland and I was able to just watch the cinematic online.
I don’t know if anyone would have a problem with taking your statement at face value; that you believe it’s not a real problem that you’re being a jerk online.
I suspect for some it’s that they’re unable to commit to a raid schedule (have specific days and times to be available), or that they don’t like the raid environment. For others, they’re simply not interested in learning the “dance” that fights become at higher difficulties or feeling pressured to perform their role at a level beyond their current ability.
Personally, I enjoy raiding. I love the challenge, and I can generally pick up fight mechanics quickly enough that I’m not a drag on any team that I join. I’m also fortunate in that my availability matches up with the most popular raid times, which has made it easy for me to find different teams to join over the years.
Secondary to that, the stress of finding a good team that you can work with on both a personal and an ideological level (“how serious do we want to be about progression, and on what difficulty?”) can sometimes be a struggle that most people don’t want to deal with. It’s much easier for them to instead just join a random LFR group, kill three bosses, and then never see or speak to any of the involved persons again.
Thats why I said 99% of the time. On mekk I did speak because it was necessary, but honestly with 3 people on bots I usually didnt even have to. All 3 of us talking at once just made it worse, so one quiet person most times on the bot wasnt an issue even for heroic.
I do hang out and chat during things like RBGs and M+, so I do interact in smaller groups. Honestly, if some people were half as quiet as I am during raid sometimes it would be even better. If I was chatting away it would just add to the noise, plus I want to concentrate.
Some people don’t have the attention span required for complex raid mechanics. There is nothing wrong with that, but some people easily hyper focus on one thing and have trouble when variance is thrown in.
That’s not to say all casuals hyper focus or aren’t alert, but I find that to be the cause of most “bad players” in raids. But there is nothing wrong with that. Most PVE content outside of dungeons and raids are 1 dimensional. You attack it until it dies. If you really wanted to increase the quality of players, then leveling and dungeons probably should be less face roll.
I loved raiding. I was in a dedicated progression guild from vanilla into cata. Not sure exactly but somewhere around 5-6 years of playing the game as full time 2nd job.
But I finally got burnt out and started taking long breaks from the game. Most of my friends did too. I also got married and started a family so my priorities changed drastically.
I still love WoW but I cant play it the way used to. Im satisfied with my wow career, so to speak. The desire to be the best and most geared is long gone. I play the game casually with no expectations and I have a great time this way.
the reasons I wont even pug a normal…well…pretty much most of them right here in all these comments…
I would probably do great in a raid…I know how to stay alive, and am quite capable of learning…I also have more time on my hands than most, so no big deal…
the problem comes in with people…the arrogance of most raiders is just amazing to me.
Quite frankly…I am 50 yrs old…I have zero tolerance for bull…attitudes. ZERO. And the older I get, the less I will put up with.
I raided in Cata with a guild. Heroic firelands on farm for people’s sticks (not me) and then progression heroic dragon soul every friday. It was awful and I hated it.
Total slog to play through EVERY WEEK. Made me hate fridays. It is not about learning the raids. It just isn’t fun. Maybe the first time you clear it but after that it is just torture. Also hate voice chat.
Like two BC timewalkings ago I pugged TW Black Temple. They seemed like nice people but I wouldn’t want to run it every week or even ever again. Once is enough.
Happy to stay on LFR and have bite sized raid wings and pick and choose what I want to go for while multitasking doing WQ / Reps
Sounds more like they’re saying: If you think everyone around you is crazy… Then you may be the crazy one. Or… if you’re driving to work and notice that every single car around you is going the opposite direction… you may be the one going the wrong way.
If you’re going to make the statement that every single guild lambastes you… then maybe try to figure out what the problem is instead of just assuming that they’re ALL wrong.
In either case… I’m not a fan of guilds that lay into players (particularly publicly) for their mistakes. It’s one thing to point something out with the aim to improve. It’s another to do so with near malevolent intent.
People. Used to raid way back and the biggest stress wasnt the mechanics or the time involved, it was dealing with so many people all at once. When you get that many egos in one place and then put them in stressful situations it tends to bring out the worst in some of them and negativity spreads. I have a happier gaming experience since going casual.
I do still raid every once in awhile with friends, but pushing raids is no longer an options.
-Time
-Pressure
-Hassle / inconvenient
-Boring and annoying to study for a fight… I’ve always hated home work.
-That feeling when you know the fight, and so does everyone else, but you just can’t down a boss no matter how many tries. Then the feeling of watching everyone leave in droves.
-The mentality of the hardcore is just-… Well it’s just terrible. The only thing they understand is how to win after following a cookie-cutter guide, and anything that threatens to change it, is immediately ridiculed and hated on. There is no try and improve with them, it’s only do and do it right.
Of course it’s not always the case in my experience. I would be happier if mythic everything was removed, and the groups that did raid content would amass into a larger population of players to join from.
Obviously for some people it will take time learning mechanics. My last group we wiped on heroic Behemoth around 6 times possibly more; in my opinion the reason being people wanting to pad meters, they weren’t focusing the puffer fish in time.
Although one of the wipes was my fault due to interrupting the boss. I was then informed that those who were in discord were upset because we could’ve downed it. Anyway, so I’m thinking okay we’ll get it the try… nope, we did not down the boss. Idk if they disbanded when I left or what… But I certainly was done, I really dislike it when people have much to say about a single fail attempt but then they don’t see the major cause all the other fail attempts. -.-.
In addition why do people have such high expectancy when the raid just came out, you will get people who are not familiar with the fight it is what it is.
Because to be honest, I just don’t care about raiding that much anymore. If I didn’t have a good group to go with, I wouldn’t bother past LFR at all.
Most often I raid because I want to spend time with the people I raid with, not because I think the raid is entertaining. It’s a means to a mount at the end of the expac, that’s it.
Where did anybody say anything about every single guild or group? I think most people have a fairly low tolerance for how much abuse they’re willing to endure in the name of playing a video game. Sometimes, all it takes is one d-bag raid leader to ruin the experience for a player.
I am a casual and I don’t mind raiding as I used to raid back in WotLK. Now, every time I am in the mood to raid, this is what I have to deal with “Link AOTC” (even for normal runs) and item level required 415+. People have insane amount of requirements be it raiding or M+, and that’s such a big turn off for me, I know from experience that groups like this will be toxic and salty. I play for fun and most of the people playing WoW these days are on a big rush, so there is no time to socialize or to even get to know the people playing with you. Remember, this game used to be a MMO, now it’s more like a co-op game (like gears of war) where you just rush to the goal.
