Why is BFA required to preorder Shadowlands?

Why is BFA required to preorder Shadowlands?

BFA is the current expansion and isn’t yet rolled into the base game. Currently, you need to level through BFA to get to Shadowlands content. In order to level through BFA, you need to buy it.

That will change some months closer to launch when BFA is rolled into the base game.

Legion is the last expansion to be rolled into the base pack, and as it is current content likely won’t be until after SL releases.

This is correct. In order to purchase Shadowlands, you must have a fully upgraded World of Warcraft account.

So when Shadowlands comes out, BFA will get rolled into the base game?

If history repeats, it’ll be shortly before Shadowlands launches.

Hopefully history repeats itself…

I always wondered why that was.

Because you have to upgrade sequentially. You can’t install 9.0 without at least 8.0. In order to upgrade to SL, you will need to either upgrade to BfA, or wait for it to be rolled into the base game.

Wait, so if my daughter, who has never played WoW before, wants to join me and her sister she will have to purchase both BFA and Shadowlands?

Not exactly. A base account, which is just a Starter Account that you add game time to, becomes a full account and has access to all content up through the Legion expansion. So that is base game, plus Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, Mists of Pandaria, Warlords of Draenor and Legion.

If she wishes to experience the current expansion, Battle for Azeroth, including the 120 level cap, she would need to upgrade to that expansion.

Shadowlands isn’t out yet, so it isn’t necessary to purchase it for anything but early access to some content, like Allied Races being able to be Death Knights.

Actually, If you want to save some money, you can buy both BfA and Shadowlands at the same time in a package deal. You also get with the “epic” version 2 months of game time and 2 character boosts, 1x110 and 1x120. Plus the mount, pet, weapon mog, and hearth mog.
I unfortunately already had bought BfA when I saw this seeing as I got it a while back, but it saved my recruit about 70 bucks…(Edit: she did have to pay for her first month of vanilla-Legion though)(Second edit: I take that back, we found this out after she had paid for her first month. In all actuality, That set included everything)

But to clarify, because I’ve got a couple of friends potentially in that boat, if someone is new to the game or just returning and does not currently own BfA, while that cannot currently pre-order Shadowlands, if they wait until Shadowlands actually releases (or potentially a bit before it), BfA will be rolled into the “baseline” version of WoW and they’ll be able to purchase Shadowlands without first purchasing BfA, correct?

I know they won’t gain access to any of the BfA content, or the Shadowlands preorder features. But at least one of those friends is rather short on cash and probably would not be able to justify purchasing both BfA and Shadowlands inside a year of one another. If she can just wait until Shadowlands is released and buy it then without the pre-requisite of BfA, I think she’d be quite a bit more inclined towards that.

See my previous comment. For 90-110 bucks, you get both plus all the bells and whistles. There’s 2 versions you can get, one with the pet, one with out. My friend went with the 110 version because she wanted to have the pet that matched the mount.

It’s 90, not 80, assuming you’re talking about the Complete Collection. And that’s identical in price to the both combined at their lowest available option. Yes, you get a 120 boost out of it (you get a 110 from buying BfA regardless of package chosen), and a month of game time, but that’s not enough to justify the price tag for some of my friends, especially if they can just wait until fall can get Shadowlands alone for $40.

Well if u get the epic edition you get a mount xmog set and a weapon xmog mounts not bad looking.

2 months game time (That right there is 30 dollars worth the cost, a mount 25, a pet 10. 2 xpacks 80= 145.00 for 110.) And that doesn’t include the weapon x-mog and killer looking hearth stone effect. (Edit, oh, and 2x$60 character boosts, I forgot to add that! so 205 worth before the mogs for 110)

I’m just saying, it’s a good deal when you factor it all in.

Ok, sure, but what if the person in question doesn’t care about the mount? And the xmog set from the mount can be gotten by anyone.

The Complete Collection comes in two flavors, Heroic and Epic. Heroic is $90, and comes with 30 days of game time. Epic is $110 and comes with 60 days. Both are those are solid deals if you want the heroic or epic pack for Shadowlands, but they are not very good deals if all you really want is the base edition of each expansion.

It’s only a good deal if you actually want all of the stuff that comes with it. Yes, it’s a cheap price for all the stuff that comes with it, but if you weren’t intended to buy that stuff in the first place (and my friend is not, she can’t justify spending that much), it’s not a good deal at all.

Actualy the xmog set can only be obtained from the mount and doing a quest.
