Why I'm quitting (PvP grind)

I’m sure no one really cares about some random dude’s post on the internet for “why I’m quitting”, I’m sure there are tons of them and this post may just be lost in that vast sea.
But I’m still making this post because I’m sure there are a lot of people out there who share the same sentiment.

When WoW Classic TBC was announced I was excited for one thing, and that was Battlegrounds. I’m not a hardcore pvper by any means, but I’ve always enjoyed the playstyle of battlegrounds for pvp compared to other mmos. I was really looking forward to getting home from work, relaxing at home, and playing some battlegrounds. Queue in for some matches, have fun with no worries, log off, and repeat.

I leveled up to 70, unlocked the keys to dungeons, grinded dungeon rep to revered (instead of honored which is another matter), did attunements, etc… also for the precedent of getting set up to do some pvp.

I queue in for a few nights play some battlegrounds, have some fun, and get anywhere from 40-200 honor per BG. Sound about right I thought, that’s how much you’d get per BG back when I played from Wrath to WoD. I noticed they increased the cap on honor from about 4,000 to something ridiculous like 70,000 (may not be exact), which was weird I thought but no matter. I finally decide it’s time to get some PvP gear to get some resilience. I go to the vendor and to my surprise…each piece is 10k-17k honor a pop. Only exception I think was gloves at almost 7k.

Remember when I said back in the day the honor reward was the same as today at 40-200 per BG? So that hasn’t changed. But back then honor gear would cost about 1k-2.5k. So the amount of honor received by playing the game stayed the same, but the cost to buy the gear pieces rose by 10x the amount.

I was seeing what others were saying online. Only to find that people were calculating 500+ hours of straight pvp to get a full set of honor gear. Now, I don’t mind putting some time into the game. I’m not looking for instant gratification. 50+ hours would be a normal amount of time. But 500+? That is ridiculous. That takes a grindy game to a whole other level. At that point I’d rather find something else. I have a life outside of WoW, sorry Blizzard but I just can’t spend 500+ hours to grind a SINGLE gear set. Imagine if you wanted a gear set for any offspecs or alt characters. Good luck with that.

The one thing I wanted to do in the game, and you put up this 500+ hour mountain in front of your players. Why? I get blizzard is trying to keep people grinding as much as a KMMO but doing stuff like increasing rep requirements from honored to revered, etc… but increasing the time to obtain pvp gear by x10? At a certain point, people are just not going to even bother any more. That’s where I’m at. I’m just not going to even bother anymore.

Could I just do arenas? I suppose, but I only have 1 irl friend whose playing classic TBC with me that’s I’d want to do arenas with, and even they may be scarce to find online at times. I just wanted to pop into BGs for casual fun. Now, I technically still can, sure, but I’d at least like to have a full pvp set while doing so for decent amount of time.

I patiently waited to see Phase 2 drop. I was told the gear would be discounted by some estimates of 20%…oh ok so instead of a 10x grind it’s now only 8x the grind…right. I was hoping for a more significant fix. I logged in after the patch, did a BG to see if honor gains were increased, no. Went to the vendors to see any price reductions, I can’t even tell if the they were and if so it’s hardly even noticeable since it costs so much.

As petty or dumb as some people think this post may be, I don’t care.
I subbed to play classic TBC strictly for Battlegrounds, and what I wanted to do was trashed by blizzard. So I now no longer have that reason to play. Simple as that.

Wow you must be horrible. You play for BGs and then complain about having to do BGs.

Can we stop throwing around the 500+ hours figure. It’s such an insane exaggeration. I play A LOT. I have Gotten full S1 Offset, full S2 Offset, Full (Full Price) Blue Gear, and my character has 384 hours played TOTAL. I sure haven’t pvp’d 100% of my time at 70. So the 500 hour figure is so far off.

Tipper,

I guess if someone wants to be in a relationship but it’s a toxic relationship then they should just deal with it because at least they’re still in a relationship, right?

What is toxic about BGs? they already fixed the queues for all of the cry babies, and you still find something to cry about. it’s absurd.

so far off. it’s like these kids cant use their brains and queue AV or world pvp.

Oh no. I can’t get the terrible blue PvP gear. Time to quit.

You can now by gear from reputation vendors that’s equivalent to the blue gear.

Then you can go into battlegrounds and lose to people decked out in arena gear.

guys commonly stay in toxic relationships because ‘they’re better than nothing’.

This is just the most absurd post I have ever read.

I’m pretty sure honor prices now are the same that they were back then. Same with honor gained.
Honestly, since same-faction BGs opened up, I’ve ground out about 50k honor (over about two weeks). Granted, I love BGs… yet I wouldn’t say I spent more than ~2 hours per day playing.

to bad you didn’t chose pve. you could have raid logged after 2-4 hours per week and easily gotten FULL BIS. just phase 1, uhmmm, “entry” level raids are “supposed” to be easy, remember. Yeah, saw phase 2 raids were cleared in a few hours already. lol.

I am not leaving yet, but i am getting closer. This is turning out to be a bigger joke than classic was. I also was looking forward to getting away from the mind senseless time sink bgs just for a piece of gear once a week if you commit your life away to bgs.

you are right, arena is the way to go. or should be. Imagine if we could solo que for arena. Quick ques, quick games. You get bad matchups and lose quick, you get good matchups and win quick. I would love to have joined an arena que and got matched with you. but nah, that would be to much fun. Can’t have that.

gl, wotlk will be the same. ive already decided i am done after tbc. partly because of what your post is about. But i each day i am getting closer to listening to that little voice in my head that keeps asking why i am wasting my time when i know, they will not make one stinking change that would make the game fun to play.

No, they fixed bgs for Horde. agree with the crybaby comment.

Alliance cried about av map imbalance for almost 2 years. Think about that. TWO YEARS.

So yeah, its all good for the horde players again so of course, any other complaint is absurd. pfffff. what a clown.

you do realize you can get a full starter set now from just reputations…all you have to farm out are offset gear

Are you seriously a Horde player, asking what is toxic about bgs and then claiming that someone else is crying about an aspect of bgs? You can’t be serious. You seriously have some nerve when your faction cries about everything until daddy blizzard hands you a fix. I have never seen a more ridiculous comment on these forums ever.

It’s for the best. Just quit, find something else to do. You will be happy you did.

You kind of have to do BG’s. It’s more of a training thing. You put in all that time fighting and come out way better than when you started, guaranteed. If it was a question of you being skilled already, there’s “good enough” blue rep gear out now. But as a fellow druid, you need to put the time in to train. I busted my a$s all s1 and I’m just a mediocre 1400 feral. Do bg’s for fun and the honor will come. You also need to be doing 5v5 every single week for some free epics.

Most people here will give you the same message ‘enjoy the grind’

It is part of the game, and it will make you a better player. The best tip I have is to not care about whether you win or lose, that will always throw your game off. The second best tip is to stick with the main group, you can hide in the numbers and as an under-geared this helps a lot.

At the same time however, I can see how it’s not favorable to people who have less than 1-2 hours a day to play. That’s simply not enough time to actually get a decent set of gear. You need several hours of the week dedicated, especially at first when you don’t know the game that well.

I don’t think you are remembering this correctly OP. None of that gear was as cheap as you claim.

Just for reference, here’s a guide from 2008 that has various prices for offset pieces pieces and weapons.
