Do you mind explaining how? I don’t see that, like at all.
Handily beaten by Corruption.
Except all the people that were fired was not part of the development team.
I started in cata and the best expac by far to me was Legion. The big difference between Legion and BFA is the meta. BFA forced the player to choose more than Legion. An example of this is the Azerite Armor. You only select 1 ability per ring as opposed to having all the abilities. The problem of choice is it pressures the player to play 1 way . That 1 way to play is the meta. Legion reduced the meta problem by giving the player all abilities. You could make legion more like BFA if you were forced to only have a few abilities active in you artifact weapon at a time. BFA would have been a lot better if all the abilities in the Azerite Armor were active and the neck had all the passives active at once. It’s interesting on how big of a difference it made emphasizing the meta going from Legion to BFA. It’s sad to see Shadowlands is encouraging the meta like BFA, but the game director is a legit killjoy so it makes sense.

This video along with a patch history of nerfing Demonology’s Toolkit by 25% AND removing Metamorphsis from them prove this otherwise. Take a look and what listen Ion is saying. He’s pretty monotonous about what he does and doesn’t even look like he’s doing this because he loves the game, rather he’s really tired of it and have it cloud his judgement by judging fun by its spreadsheet.
I swear, everytime someone defends Ion and gives him benefit of the doubt… Sure, he’s human. we all make mistakes. But at the end of the day, he is a Game Director… who has a boss… and having him saying that ridiculous statement “we’d rather you not play demonology” just really turned me off from playing the game. It’s arrogant. It’s condescending. It’s not something you want to hear from a Game Director who develops something that’s supposed to be an entertainment.
I’m sorry, personally… I don’t like Ion. I majority of the time disagree with his choices and believe that he lost sight of what’s truly fun for a lot of people. Remember Xelnath?
See, I didn’t like GC either but you know what? He’s pretty cool. MUCH cooler than Ion imo. I don’t think I was a big fan of Celestalon either.
… why am I not liking a lot of game directors? Out of all of them, I think GC was the best.
Awwww, you saw right through me.
That’s not true. They mostly fired the QA people but they hired 80 new devs during 2019. There would be no need to fire a lot devs because they’re already at base pay.
The nearly 800 employees will come from nondevelopment and administrative-related parts of the business.
I was mistaken they hired a bunch of devs in 2020.
This happens when bean counters and lawyers pretend to be Role Playing game designers.
Id like to see the game that the best of the oldest WoW players could come up with. Half casuals, half hardcore raiders…all working together to make a good expansion.
No bean counters…no lawyers…just players who have been here from the start.
$1000 says it’d be the best expansion this game has ever seen.
He brought on celestalon and holinka…
What? Do you mean system?
At the end of the day gamers don’t know what they want and will complain about what they want and then complain about not wanting what they want. If the game didn’t evolve based on player feedback you would still be playing classic to this day.
I wouldn’t want to be a game developer at all with today normalized “bash-the-developer” attitude and making youtube videos mocking what you do.
Check out Preach Gaming’s interview of him. He states his killjoy design during the interview. It is a recent phone interview. I like that Preach challenges him, but he doesn’t back down. The game director sticks to his joy killing guns.
I am going to be blunt:
I don’t care what some youtuber who makes money off of getting attention for being unpleasant says because it is all a scam.
I am asking what you meant:
Do you feel he favours cumbersome/awkward game design and that makes him a killjoy?
Are you talking about the system on system design of BfA?
Or the addition of pet battles, mission tables, bonus objectives, the kitchen sink, ect?
So much the last part . This was supposed to be the expac where they got away from spec focus so people could play their other specs especially hybrid classes.
I look at covenants as a back door way for them to force spec focus on again .
He literally states the extra action button should be superior to the passive in output, hence meta. Meta is the best output. It is viewed as the only acceptable choice at end game. This is the problem with the meta. Meta is only a problem at end game when damage meters are as essential as action bars like in wow. He could state the player should pick whatever appeals to their play style but he doesn’t. He even states the shaman that plays with the extra action buttons should be superior to the shaman who plays whatever he likes. The meta problem has always been a problem in wow but in BFA it was emphasized due to opportunity cost. Like I’ve stated above, legion could have been more meta focused if we were forced to have 1 chain active in our artifact weapon at a time. It’s deceptive and cruel the design philosophy at end game atm. It’s an illusion of choice which Preach says very gently to the game director. I would’ve been much more blunt, but he is a bit of a shill so he won’t be as blunt as I like.
