Why i quit retail - forced mythic plus

That’s it, simple post. I saw that for a very short time you could get sufficient gear from raiding - that was awesome I loved that short window and I look forward to next expansion.

It became pretty obvious a month ago or so that grinding mythic plus is the (only) way to get gear, that there was no longer a path forward “just raiding”. I hate mythic plus and I don’t consider any element of it fun.

Unless you are mythic raiding I don’t who is forcing you to do mythic plus.

This.

You get Heroic gear from Delves and, well, Heroic Raids. Plus the occasional weekly.

Im guessing they’re using “gearing” as short hand for Maxed out BIS. Which that isn’t a new development in that regard.

Good news.

M+ is entirely optional now!

(It always was.)

Mythic plus is pretty objectively the best gearing path specifically unless you’re Mythic Raiding and even then it’s a requirement due to the additional gear + crests.

No doubt. That’s not because anything else was nerfed, though, it’s because M+ is a veritable loot pinata.

Okay bye have a good time in classic.

The dungeons in the M+ rotation right now are pure garbage slop anyway, you aren’t missing out on anything.

They keep rehashing the same dungeons over and over too. This is the THIRD expansion I am doing Grim Batol now. I just got done running it in Cata Classic, yeah, remember Cata Classic? That exists.

Next season is the rehash of a rehash of a rehash Mechagon, followed by the second iteration of Motherlode. Yay!!! I still remember Motherlode like it was yesterday, as if I want to keep doing it lmao.

And the simple reality is that that strangulates everything besides Mythic Raiding because of it.

The reality of retail PvE is that you either do Mythic+ or you play at a LFR level because those are the only two options. M+ completely supplants low level raiding outside doing LFR for the story mode, and skipping M+ even at a Mythic level is massively detrimental to progression as a whole, especially when guilds start extending and there is no other functional way of getting loot.

it is not lol

It’s only strangulating if you’re competing.

The vast, vast majority of people aren’t… for some reason they just act like they are.

I think the issue is a lot of guilds now just straight up expect you to regularly fill out your vault from m+ even if they’re just raiding normal/heroic. Sure you can just not do it. But you run the risk of getting benched for someone who did run m+ since they will be able to gear up faster than someone who didn’t.

It really just depends on what kind of guild you’re in how cut throat they are with raid spots.

The vast, vast majority look at normal and heroic raiding and go “why bother when I can spam 7s/8s which are easier and drop equal to better rewards”.

Which is what strangulates those levels of play.

Sure. M+ is a loot pinata.

This doesn’t choke the unaffected loot path of raiding.

I get the point you’re trying to make, but raiding still gives roughly the same amount of loot (that it always did) on a weekly lockout. If you want to play by just raiding that is entirely viable. People do it. Hell, Wowhead and Icyveins, which that majority uses, even tells people exactly which pieces they want if they’re only doing one form of content. Both for M+ and Raiding.

To give a compromise; a better phrase would be that M+ is the path of least resistance for loot. Not that M+ strangles raiding.

Ye. Coupled with the fact that m plus is infinitely farmable. You can raid for an entire tier and not get some items. stares at ansurek ring Compare that to running a dungeon maybe 10-20 times and getting everything you need WHILE getting tons of crests you likely need. Raiding technically is more valuable super late tier but then…you dont need the gear. The content is beat to death or you’re extending.

And once you start extending, the only meaningful way of getting loot (and upgrading that loot) is once again…M+

All problems lead back to M+ being infinitely spammable and no other content of PvE endgame is.

100 percent. If i need a trinket i can just spam GB, if i need a belt i spam DB. And i do this while crestfarming at the same time. Compare this to raid. Need a trinket? Good luck there is like one good trinket and nearly every dps wants it. And lets say it does drop and you have a good shot at getting it. Why would LC even give you the item if from their perspective you aren’t gearing your character outside of raid over someone who actually is doing keys outside of raid. The idea of gearing through raid is probably only viable in a normal raiding guild and even they will tell you to do keys once they hit a wall.

This mentality is incredibly stupid. But thankfully, I’m not convinced that “the vast majority” of people actually subscribe to it.

The raid has a weekly lockout. So you do it once (takes an hour or less for a competent group), and you’re done for the week. You can either do M+ or not…but I think people greatly exaggerate how lucrative that activity is for loot. Only 2/5 people get anything in a run that takes 30+ min. And the type of people who have the time to sit in M+ all day are already clearing the raid weekly anyway.

It’s a tragedy that as we enter 2025 so many people still don’t know what the word forced means.
