Yes, as I just mentioned above lol. Problem is i’m lazy. oh well
Never really noticed anything like that. Only thing I am use too from DBM is “run away little girl, run away”.
But I actually do find addons like DBM or BigWigs very useful, because it helps prepare for each mechanic of the fight, instead of the mechanic just happening then boom, you ****ed up because you were not prepared for it.
I doubt this. They wouldn’t know you weren’t using DBM unless things weren’t going fine.
It could be something that they were in party chat discussing. Person A casually mentions they don’t have ______ addon and the group decides to cut their losses because they’re a poor sport about it.
It would be like being kicked for not having flasks, gems, enchants, food buffs, etc. because by not having them, you could be playing with a handicap.
Personally I think that’s a bit harsh and unnecessary, depending on the difficulty. But that’s just the status quo. People rather find a replacement than offer help or guidance.
Wasn’t there a previous post that confirmed it would tell the raid leader who doesn’t have the addon?
I wouldn’t underestimate this as a reason to kick someone.
And if the above was true, why would you be worried and try to defend that it’s not, unless it’s an invasive feature?
Once again, I have no side in this debate, but this would be something fair to state. If it is true that it’s invasive, defending its invasiveness would be prudent if you support the addon.
How?
No it doesn’t. It adds alerts. It doesn’t.play the game for you. People still have to have situational awareness and still have to be good at their DPS/heals/tanking.
No they don’t. They’re still responsible for mechanics and helping the entire raid.
If they don’t research before raiding and wipe the raid, they’re out. No one can “zone out” in a raid.
From what I’m seeing, you’ve barely done any content this expansion or last. You have a +15 achiev, no raid achievs, you’ve done nothing above normal on the character you posted on and yet you’re trying to give some “facts” on the experience of how people use DBM/Big Wigs?
Addons don’t make anything trivial. If you’ve run anything above Normal, you would know this is false.
So did Gearscore. So did achievements. So did ilevel. So did inspecting people before they were allowed to group up back in the day.
There will always be a measurement. Add-on or not.
Welcome to LFR. If you ran higher raids, you would know this isn’t how it is. Either that or.you run with bad groups.
I play other MMOs who have damage meters, boss alerts and use some form of measurement to let people into groups. So you’re wrong. Again.
Not MMOs.
Any progression raider or intelligent person who wishes to improve themselves knows this is also false.
Coding and concerns over hacking. But I just caught you in your own lie: “Some” games. Not all.
Yup.
DBM and various damage meters have been around forever.
Have you only just discovered add ons OP?
And I disagree with DBM being there to make things easier, more convenient. I know someone who used to play that is deaf, DBM was the reason they could raid as they couldn’t hear audio queues for mechanics.
Maybe what you take for granted you also don’t understand the value of.
There is no magic add on that makes you better, faster, or smarter as a player.
So you don’t raid and you’re complaining about a raiding addon that has been around since 2008? Also, how does such an addon affect you? You don’t have to download any of them if you don’t like them.
Yes, to be more in depth you just have to use the command /dbm ver
It checks to see which version your group has installed, if any, which like i said other boss mod add ons can spoof.
People are a little protective of their addons, and I like them a lot too, I just also like to be factual much like yourself. I have no issue with the version check as it is useful to RL trying to run a solid group.
I use BigWigs, but I’m pretty sure you have to dig into DBM’s settings a bit to see who isn’t using the addon. It’s not something that’s displayed upfront.
Also, you could just download the addon so people see you as having it. Then turn off all the warnings.
DBM is a weird one. It’s easier to deal with mechanics with the advance warning and occasional other things DBM offers than without it, but at the same time, I’m pretty sure Blizzard is fully aware that DBM is a default addon for anyone raiding seriously and design their encounters to require skillful play even with that being the case.
Whether or not they should have to design around that is something maybe worth talking about just for the sake of hearing different opinions, but it’s so ingrained into the game that it’s not going to change now.
It is never ok in my book to create encounters around add-ons, doesn’t make the game fun when all you do is watch a timer.
Addons have found their way deep into raiding by now, and many people cannot play as well without them.
I’m not going to quit over it though. Addons make things easier, this cannot be argued, but for many fights (im looking at you Mythic Queen Azshara) if you do not have certain Weak Auras then good F’ing luck getting everyone to do the mechanic correctly in a timely matter.
I will admit, I dislike downloading addons for a fight I dont believe they are needed for at all, but know that the addons help move the fight along and if its better for your team to have them just get them.
You say that, but do you know how many times i have seen people get owned by tempest in shrine?
This thread in a nutshell.
How exactly is DBM invasive?
Why do you think raid mechanics have in general grown since vanilla?
Arguements can be made for easier classes, and better technology, but i imagine dbm/big wigs has a large part in their design philosophy.
Healers have to die is just pure hate. That’s why I use it.
I feel like this one is overly nitpicky considering Blizzard has implemented their own little version of DBM with things that’ll pop up on your screen to warn you of raid mechanics.
Very easy solution involving raider io. Find a guild or a like minded group of individuals who wish to do keys regularly.
Which means it isn’t an addon issue, it is a people issue, and the people you are interacting with are dumb.
No. Many features are left out simply because it’s too much work or the dev team just didn’t think of it.
The one time that the D3 Dev team addressed the frequent request for a dps meter that’s exactly what they said, “it’s something they didn’t originally think about and it’s too much work to add now”.
