i still play old games too, but not nearly as much as i did when they were new
heres an unpopular opinion on this forum. i think modern games are fine and the industry overall is headed in a good direction. the one big exception is mmorpgs, but that is only one genre, everything else is fine
lmfao you think the industry is fine? im leaving⌠Iâm sorry we couldnât come to an agreement but me and you have vastly different perceptions of the world and I donât see us finding a middle ground.
For the record I play older games way more now than I did when they first came out⌠considering iâve been playing them for like 15 years and they are only ânewâ for a year?
lots of great games out there. i just finished ds3 and i liked it a lot. im looking forward to borderlands 3, too bad it comes out about the same time as classic.
i will probably play it first since its will be new
The argument is moot at best. The population will be more than sustainable if managed properly. Private servers have proven this and that is without marketing to shore them up. If they manage things properly they should have the numbers to sustain many servers. To claim that people will get tired of this or that is just foolish because the game hasnât even launched, We donât even know what the future holds. Perhaps this (BC) or perhaps that (Wrath), but can we just let the game launch before trying to blow the house down just because you donât think it is sustainable? No reason to be a Negative Nancy for no reason.
Private servers if anything have showed us that itâs only for a targeted niche audience. There are currently 7k users on the most popular private server as I am typing this, and I bet that about 50% of them are only playing because of the recent classic beta hype.
Who is complaining on the forums about having to raid the same content? Who is complaining about content droughts? Retail players, right? Not the target demographic that Classic is tailored towards, but the players who like CoD/PUBG/mobile style gaming, where they can log in, play for 20 minutes and get some kind of reward. Classic is aimed at players who prefer to get more investment in their rewards. The type of players who have been happily leveling new characters and tackling the same raid content over and over again for years on private servers. Those players are happy with the idea a fairly static game, because they want their effort to mean something in their own minds.
Imagine multiple specs never seeing the light of day because the second that Blizzard starts implementing balance changes (looking at you, oomkins), all the #NoChanges players quit.
So now weâre going from âmost players will be retail players who constantly need newer and better content to be happyâ to âmost players will be PS players who will rage quit when Blizzard tries to turn Classic WoW into a retail cloneâ. That feels pretty inconsistent to me, but itâs also incredibly disingenuous. âNever seeing the light of dayâ ignores that all the specs are viable for various content. When people talk about specs not being viable, what they ACTUALLY mean is that âthis spec is not optimal for high end raidingâ, which is one aspect of the game and one aspect only. Repeating the words ânot viableâ over and over again with respect to the whole game does not change the fact that it is a false statement. No, you may not want a kitty in your Naxx raid, but you absolutely want one in your Warsong Gulch. In fact, the more, the merrier. And youâre happy to have them in your BRD run as well.
The reason why Oldschool Runescape is able to continue growing is because they add updates. The difference between the classic community and the osrs community is that the osrs community is willing to let the game live by having new life pumped into it.
No disrespect, but I donât feel you actually have a very good handle on what it is about games that keeps players having fun. And thatâs not a knock on you, because a lot of gaming companies donât actually understand it either. Or at least, the guys at the top certainly donât; they just understand how to trigger addiction.
Blizzardâs mistake with WoW in the first place was pushing too hard to capture new players, pushing the game towards the lowest common denominator. And it definitely boosted subs in the short term, but at the expense of the stable, loyal players. Now they have to push new content and massive changes on the regular in order to keep the attention of their player base.
Except I am not saying the changes they implement have to cater to this lowest common denominator. I am simply stating that they need to add content to the game that is similar to that of content already in Vanilla. (i.e new dungeons, new raids, new side quest chains)
Iâm not saying to make the game easier. I am saying that the game could be improved upon while maintaining the integrity of Vanilla.
OSRS did it, I donât see why the same canât happen with classic.
Where are players getting this damn statistic? There are definitely NOT hundreds and thousands of players playing private servers. As I am talking there is only 7k players on the top private server, with half of them probably only on there because of the recent classic beta hype.
Just because some private server posted a picture saying they had 800k accounts doesnât mean they had 800k ACTIVE accounts.
