Bliz/Acti will throw some money down and the people will back off. Which will then lead to us doubting how MUCH of the accusations were true is they could be bought off to settle a case with such heinous assertions.
I believe that Bliz has probably done a few things wrong…I just dont know how much and to what degree. We shall see.
I am saying that former employees may have a reason to lie or exagerate.
However they could be telling the truth as well
Notice how in my post I never said they WERE being deceitful…only that it was a possibility.
This is where the defense comes in…
Employees say this this and this
Now its up to Bliz to explain their side of those assertions.
But I am not going to trust former employees at their word without giving the accused a chance to rebut.
And if you think former employees have no reason to lie about a big company with millions of dollars in potential settlement money…well I just hope you are not picked for any juries
Blizzard will have their day in court, and whatever happens there happens. They’re entitled to their day and they’re entitled to their defense. The system will do its job.
The nice thing about freedom of choice and freedom of opinion, however, is that I am not required to twiddle my thumbs and wait for their day in court before I protect my own interests.
As a woman in the tech industry for almost 30 years, I’ve experienced enough creepy, sexist, and hostile behavior in a multitude of workspaces, and pervasively across the whole industry, to be pretty confident that where there’s smoke, there’s fire. And because I have freedom of choice, I can decide that I’m no longer comfortable giving a chunk of my disposable income to a company that sure sounds like it has a lot in common with the kind of workplaces I’ve been in.
Whatever happens in court, happens in court, and we should let the process do its job. Believing that does not in any way invalidate the fact that I’m not giving them any more of MY money until I see clear and patent evidence that this kind of behavior is not being tolerated, by anybody at any level toward anybody at any level.
I never said that. I said more likely than not to be true. False allegations are a rarity, and my point was that actual sexual harassment is so common that with the evidence available, you’d have to be an incel or living under a rock to believe it’s all a lie. I know for a fact some people make false allegations, but they are outliers.
Do you know what the court of public opinion is? Because thats different from a legal court.
Also Ill ask you as well. Why have courts if Blizzard does not also care for them? Blizzard took away Quinton Flynn who has been the voice of the iconic character Kael’thas from the game on just allegations. He went to court and proved he was innocent and yet Blizzard never restored everything they took away from him. So why should we treat Blizzard any differently than they treat their own people when it comes to the court of public opinion?
And I’m saying, if you actually gave a rats a** about “innocent until proven guilty”, you wouldn’t be so cavalier to raise baseless speculations of disgruntled employees.
You want to allege that’s what’s happening here? Show me some evidence. That’s the standard you’re holding Blizzard to, but not the accusers.
I don’t think this is a good road to go down. I don’t doubt the severity of the issues but my values concerning the rights of the accused and protections for defendants are not contingent on the severity of the accusation. We don’t suddenly waive due process in murder trials, in fact we view it as even more important there.
Blizzard deserves their day in court and for my own sake, I won’t pass judgement on them until its completed. If that counts as giving them the benefit of the doubt then I guess there it is. But I would do the same for any defendant with any accusation.
You just know it in your gut. Blizzard being guilty just has that truthiness to it. Doesn’t matter what all the circumstances around that person’s death were because, gosh darn it, you just know…
