Discussion going on over in the arena forum. Got me wondering. Is it barrier to entry? no friends? no rewards? too toxic?
What would make you want to play pvp more? (Specifically Rated modes)

PvP in the game isn’t fun nor do I have anything to prove.
while modern man has ruined the word ‘toxic’ for me…yeah…players are why I hate PvP and group content in this game.
I get agitated way too easily. So, to keep the peace, I just do pve content with friends and family and avoid the more competitive nature that is pvp.
Basically, I am a try hard when it comes to wanting to compete, and I dislike losing. So I guess a Sore loser.
Uhhh, for me it was originally lack of structure/friends to do it with. It was kind of similar to how keys are now except even less structured so you’d find somebody, play, lose, group falls apart and you’re back to finding somebody to play with.
This made random BGs super fun until I was able to put more time into learning rated.
Give me super powers to one-shot whoever I want.
I’m just bad at arena style PvP. That being said I actually intend on trying to push arena rating this season because I really want the elite monk set.
I hate the new PVP system and how PVE gear is relevant in PVP arenas and RBGs. I went heavy into 3s, 5s and RBGs in MoP. Even with the switch from Resilience to PVP power. It was tolerable. Then they introduced Versatility and now its used for PVP and PVE. The one shot mechanics are ridiculous and really annoying. Resilience helped with that.
Heck yeah, hope you get it.
You can’t do that while you are stunned.
You can’t do that while you are stunned.
You can’t do that while you are stunned.
You are dead.
This was also an issue for me until I found some friends to play with in MoP.
I really hope you can get into it… you will easily be able to get the elite set if you learn the basics of arena, it gives a big advantage over the other people playing. (watch youtube videos of the basics of arena and macros/addons)
So vers and pvp ilvl still keep PvE gear out of pvp modes, vers keeps the playing field pretty even. There aren’t too many one shots anymore and a lot of that comes down to how telegraphed they are if there is one.
I am trying to get in the PVP.
Arenas is basically the only form of high end content that i can play with my time to play.
I tried Ranked Arenas back in Shadowlands first season, I was able to improve how I play the game, and with mouse and keyboard in general. However, also thanks to Ranked PvP, I learned to dislike (close to hating) PvP as a whole from the experience.
I won’t go into it other than I did not have a fun time, and afterwards I rather be about Jolly Cooperation, than whatever the PvP variant is. That is just me however, for those that enjoy it I am happy ya do. Twas just not for me.
Nothing, even when I use to pvp a lot back in vanilla and tbc, it just got stale.
Think only time I gave a darn again was for an azerite power from arena in BFA
While stuns are an issue… it does have a diminishing return timer, so you cannot be stunned forever and they have less and less effect every time until you are off the timer.
I could see this being really annoying and I think the biggest part of this is understanding how to live through them and cycle defensives/etc. (especially as a shaman, I feel the pain of not being able to use defensives in a stun and that is one of their weaknesses)
Thank you! I think I’ll have my work cut out for me given that I heal and I’ve seen people talking about how… unforgiving(?) MMR is for healers.
Healers are lower than their dps counterparts in solo shuffle, yeah. 2v2 is generally a pretty mellow time, though, and if you find some big warrior, demon hunter or something you could have a good time in there.
I will play with you and help you get the elite set if you want. Kanstil#1725 is my btag. I am more than willing to do 2s and help people out and learn the game.
(i played mw to about 2200 in legion)
because as a shadowpriest i get steam rolled
Honestly, all the above to an extent. The gearing has greatly improved this expansion, but the toxic player base is still a huge issue for me. The answer is to make friends, but I am anti-social so that makes finding friends pretty much impossible.
