Why don't they do more underwater content?

Now before you think I’m trolling, I ask in earnest.

In Legion we had hints of this here and there, but it mostly pertained to the clickable orbs to summon a boss.

In BFA there was originally meant to be an achievement for visiting every underwater bar, a dive bar if you will, and drinking their special alcoholic drink. There was a lot of love and detail put into these places in BFA. There is also that horn you can blow that summons a kraken.

There is also the clickable rocks for that secret quest to get that demonic goat pet, one of which is so far out into the fatigue zone that there is a small land mass that doesn’t drain fatigue.

I’m not really asking for combat related content as its well known most people don’t like it. But I dunno, more exploration content. After all, there is plenty of ways to gain increased movespeed underwater or being able to breathe underwater.

Lots of people hated Vashj’ir in Cataclysm, that’s probably why. Though I don’t really mind the concept of a underwater zone, it would have been neat for Nazjatar to be underwater instead of this weird Tidestone holding back all of the ocean.

Good lord please never another underwater zone

I’m a fan of Vashjir. It’s part of my go to for Cata leveling.

My hope for Zinashari got dashed hard. Even a slightly aquatic area…sigh.

Water and underwater themed areas almost never go well in video games.

It’s the same reason people despise Oculus. The flying around.

I love underwater areas, but I fear them at the same time especially when I see a gigantic enemy name display underneath me when I’m first swimming down lol.

The Elemental Plane of Water from Everquest permanently poisoned me to any kind of underwater zone or zone with three dimensional combat.

That attitude carried through to WoW. When Vashj’r was released in Cata, I did the zone once for the loremaster achievement. Since then, not one of my characters has set foot in that zone.

And never will.

Vash’jir isn’t too bad, though. I remember walking/running on the ground underwater was pretty cool, I didn’t have any issue other than “flying from x to x” underwater.

the swim speed is depressingly slow. Plz no underwater zones

I’d be fine with that. But another Vash’jir… I’d hurt someone if they did that again.

Vash’jir wasn’t too bad for me, although I was a Warrior.

Although I have enjoyed underwater content, I find there’s a disorienting distance/size ambiguity in the graphics of the game when I don’t have ground reference beneath me (larger graphic on the screen could mean its a bigger object/creature or a closer one). On melee characters in particulat it can get quite annoying trying to maintain positioning in water.

When people swim at 200% speed or get a buff, water is fine. When blizzard INSISTS on 30% water swimspeed… it makes walkfinder look bad.

You almost go too fast in Vash’jir, with aqua form I can hit 500%+ and it gets disorienting.

Some classes are fine in Vashj’ir, others are awful to play. I did it once for Loremaster and that was enough.

Too many people would just quit is the answer.

Not to mention some skill resources just flat out dont’ work/spawn underwater. Like the underwater behemoth fight of Nazjatar, drops Demon hunters BIS, what fight do Vengence demon hunters actually literally shut down and not work in with no soul shards spawning consistently or being autoconsumed, thus denying them from using their soul shards and basic resources for spirit bombs or special abilities?

Yup.

AOE abilities and melee attacks just don’t work too well in a 3 axis environment.

Except when the aoe aggros everything in sight. Death and decay on the sea floor below is not useful.

Oh for the days when a rogue could use Cloak and Dagger to close those gaps!
