Why don't they do more underwater content?

Being straight - I have a serious phobia of super deep water. That whole quest with Derek Proudmoore, and the Horde having to go find his body underwater gave me the heebeejeebies. I’m usually a rational, calm sort. But that quest had me all the way screwed up.

On topic - I don’t much care either way. My phobia hopes it stays away but my logical self says it’s fine in either situation because I’m sure some people might enjoy it.

Because most people are horrible at thinking in 3 dimensions. Me, I liked all of the underwater content.

They tried an underwater zone once before and the overall consensus was that it was a terrible experience.

Underwater is incredibly hard to do well.

People didn’t like vash’jr and people didn’t like the underwater boss in Eternal Palace. Just a bad design.

Because when they flooded thousand needles it bothered people so much that many years later…

“We hear you! So now we have blasted a massive crater in the literal sea!”

I think all the content everywhere should be underwater. That way we’d not have to wait for pathfinder timegates to get flying. Just hop on ye olde 400% speed seahorse. 3d combat can’t be as bad as a newly dinged 120 getting blowgunned to death by blood trolls jumping around out of melee range while you look for the dumb ramp up to where they are…

I still don’t know why. It’s one of my favorite zones in the game. Never really understood why people had such a difficult time navigating the 3d environment. It’s essentially the aerial combat mechanic players have been hounding Blizz for since before Wotlk.

Another one of my favorite zones. I still have my steamboat captain hat in the bank and fond memories of starting a Goblin vs Gnome bar fight.

But imagine elwynn forest, acherus, westfall, undercity, thunder bluff, and orgimmar under water! We could party on the roof of lion’s pride, float around to the vendors in undercity, jump out into the death knight zone without making swords, no more falling off rope bridges…!

Because people complained about Vashj’ir non-stop so they rarely ever do that now. Even though it was a fun zone.

Certain classes, and WoW in general do not handle 3D combat well. Ranged classes usually have an easier time of it than melee. They’ve improved 3D navigation a bit with Legion but it’s still not amazing. Many players said they didn’t like dealing with Vashj’ir, Blizzard has the data to prove it, and they aren’t likely to waste time on something like that again.

I love Vashj’ir, and have just started leveling there with my Vulpera. It was always my favourite Cata zone.

I think you just hit the nail on the head. I’d wager most of the Vash haters are melee.

Conversely, I probably love it so much because if you messed with a boomie in Vash you were in serious trouble.

I think you forgot the underwater chairs leading to draenor without the draenor battle sequence. And some murloc battle pets. Maybe some random underwater quests and world quests in many different zones.

Because nobody likes it. Next question!

When you think about it, a water zone is just a zone that starts you off with flying, and just makes everything blue.
Nazjatar may as well be a water zone once you get flying. Coral reefs and all.

I personally hate underwater boards. Only reason I ever did the Cata (?) one was when it was first introduced and for the sea horse mount after that. Won’t do that stupid board if my toons life depended on it.

Vash’jir was a trainwreck with 90% hate, they even cancelled underwater raid cause of it.

Which is deeply deeply sad. I would have loved to see that raid.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, did I mention yes?

You speak for yourself, not every one.

the horde campaign quest “Deep Dive” was enough for me. due to spatial recognition problems on my end, i don’t care for an entire underwater zone
