Why don't the devs communicate on class forums?

you havent met the internet of the early 2000s or late 90s.

you don’t know what jungle it was.

ever heard of Godwin’s law?

edit: I miss EncyclopediaDramatica

heeeeyyyy … Wait a minute. You’re both inhabitants of the forums as well.

The class sub-section of the forums are what we are talking about, not GD.

i dont go there. it’s too dark for me.

I’ll presume for a second that you have another character somewhere with XXXX post and not 5 (not a dig), you’d know that any design discussion on these marginally moderated forums would not in any likelihood be constructive.

The same reason zookeepers don’t walk into the lion enclosure to handfeed them.

When was the last time you spoke to the ants ,OP ?

the biggest problem i see is that it doesnt solve anything for the devs. look at everytime they post in any forum. there are a smattering of thank you’s and then 1k posts about why my (insert class here) isnt buffed to be op. or why isnt (insert class i dont like here) nerfed yet. it just isnt productive. they have all the data they need to understand if a class is under performing or over performing.

Do devs post on the forums at all any more? The last time I remember this happening was when Ghostcrawler did.

not really its handled by the CS people but even when they post they a inudated with people spamming every one of their post about a perceived problem they have with the game. a player will say we need to nerf warlocks then the next post will be we need to buff warlocks!!! its honestly just not worth their time

Because it then ends up like how it was in Beta where one class forums gets jealous of another class forum

YOU ARE NOT GIVING US EQUAL ATTENTION BLIZZ :rage:

If you know anything about anything, you know that any place public with everyone speaking whatever they want is filled with crap.

If a free forum of people is discussing economics, it is the last place an economist will look for answers as to what to do. Same here.

You tell people why something is not made, they want to argue as to why not, and not always the reason is simple enough for them to understand, or “nice enough” for them to accept.

Many people have “somehow” mentality, in which “do it somehow” is a perfectly sound reason to do something else that requires it.

And for the most part, players here REFUSE TO COMMUNICATE with devs and blizzard people themselves. They want to speak, they want to be heard, they want to be heeded, they dont want to communicate actually.

Just like OP is doing in this post.

because class forums are full of “opinions” from people who don’t actually play their class at a level that can give them any credibility to talk about balance.

I’m sure you don’t want your class to be balanced around the opinions of people who just dinged on the class and never touched any real end game content.

This is the Paladin forums this very second. Announced the Ret rework and suddenly a bunch of new faces show up out of nowhere to give terrible opinions. There’s literally a post detailing how adding a 5th button in a Single Target rotation, that’s a buffed AoE spender, is terrible, suboptimal and inefficient game design. It baffles me as to why someone wants such a binary, unchanging ST rotation with no variance.

Probably because any changes, good or bad, get lambasted by hundreds of people whining about other unrelated specs.

It would be nice if there was just a post saying “Here is where we want to take this spec” and then give some high-level thoughts and plans, then leave the thread and don’t look at the responses. Instead they just don’t communicate at all, then go spend their time posturing and posting their worthless opinions about social issues on Twitter only to end up stealing breastmilk out of the office fridge.

It’s the Blizzard of 2023.

It’s the Tseric effect. No matter what a dev posts, it will be nit-picked apart. Just go look at the sticked post about the rework in the paladin forum. It’s full of angry people because their favorite class/spec ISN’T getting a rework at the same time, this very second.

Can’t help it.

Posting impassionately, they say you don’t care.

Posting nothing, they say you ignore.

Posting with passion, you incite trolls.

Posting fluff, you say nonsense.

Post with what facts you have, they whittle down with rationale.

There is no win.

There is only slow degredation.

Take note. It is the first and only time you’ll see someone in my position make that position.

You can be me when I’m gone.

If a Dev posted in an Icecream thread about their favorite Icecream it would devolve into utter nonsense. People would complain about buffs/nerfs, how awful the game is and why isn’t that dev responding to REAL threads with REAL issues instead of clowning around.

They can’t win, so why post?

I never actually asked for a discussion, I asked for communication. I’m not asking for them to convince me why they design a class in X way, or nerf a spec in Y way is good, just explain why they did it.

Of course if they came to a forum and tried to have a real 1v1 talk with us it would end badly, however a stick’d post at the top of the forum saying “we removed double tap because” “we didn’t buff this spec because” “we hear the feedback on X and we disagree because” I and many others may not agree with what they end up saying but at least I’d understand what they’re thinking. I fail to see how that’s such a negative its worthy of all this opposition

Because players are exceptional at identifying a problem, but notoriously awful at solving a problem.

It is a far better use of time for devs to silently read the forums and identify problems and then come up with their own solutions.

I would absolutely hate to be a class dev, and part of my job would be to talk to customers every single time there was a thread about some new perspective. Then you’re weighing someone’s opinion about class design and their experience of one entire week playing it, vs someone who has been playing the spec for years. Is the person who is suggesting changes to a class someone who has seen the highest forms of content, have they adjusted their stats correctly, etc. There’s just far too many variables for each and every possible conversation with users to be productive.

And ultimately, someone’s opinion of a classes space in the game is completely up to them. Like paladins wanting a gap closer, while getting more tools to be effective at a decent range. You don’t want everyone’s opinion to be considered at all. Far too many people in these forums, in game, or in real life are far too willing to speak their opinion on a matter without ever really thinking if what they’re about to say is even worthwhile.

I’ve explained what I’m asking for in other comments, I encourage you to read them

they read the class forums…they get feedback from all these forums thanks to help from our Kaivax.

anyway, devs don’t post because they don’t want to turn these forums into “interview spaces”.

i don’t blame them - i wouldn’t post on the class forums if i was a dev either. Many people here are unable to hold reasonable discussions… or are just so bad at the game, it’d be like talking game balance to a goldfish.
