Why don't the devs communicate on class forums?

Every single class forum is filled with posts talking about the specs.
Every single class forum is filled with people begging for changes to the problems in them.
Every single class forum is a ghost town for the devs.

Why is there never any reply from the devs? The only time they ever post/comment on anything is when they link some patch notes. They never explain why a controversial change was made, or why a change wasn’t made when people think it should be.

They just refuse to communicate and it makes no sense

It derails the thread and always ends as

TLDR: Working as intended .

They have to have an intention for it to work as intended.

Because they get extremely defensive… they call theory crafting social engineering…

I get the impression you think you’re owed something.

Isn’t there like one class balance dev?

I think most would rather he stick to his job than spend his work hours reassuring nerds.

Read the forums for 20 minutes and really think about why they dont respond.

They don’t have any interest in discussing things with players. They don’t have anything to say that players want to hear.

just communication. I may not like the answer but I do think people are entitled to understand the decisions that are made in a game they pay for

Because they don’t give an expletive about the players… they can easily right a this is what we’re thinking this is what we’re planning to do…and pin it up top on the class forums
But they cant even bother with that

Because they are to busy trying to find a work from home job at another company.

There’s some good stuff in there, but there’s a LOT of useless whining in there too. Why should a dev spend their time when a CS agent can comb through what may be useful, present it to the devs, and maybe it gets added to the workflow queue or maybe it doesn’t depending on what the team lead and game director have outlined for the next build.

Not to mention that many think they are owed an answer from the devs or at least some regular communication from the game director, but that’s never paid off for them. Ion and Lore used to have weekly videos discussing what’s coming up and then answering select community questions–there’s a reason they stopped providing those and the hostile community is only one of those reasons.

There has to be a return on investment for any time they spend related to the game. Blizz doesn’t think it’s worth it, so it’s not happening (at least not on forums). That doesn’t mean some CS guy or intern isn’t reading the forums and filtering some of it up to the devs; just that the devs don’t think it’s worth it to directly interact (or have been directed not to) .

They provided a roadmap, so I’d be happy if they just continue to update status on meeting those objectives every quarter.

Do you think the people that made your computer components, household appliances, and other things you pay for also owe you an explanation? The only ones legally owed an explanation for a publicly traded business are the shareholders and they get that explanation via SEC filings of 10K and 10Q reports. You could read Blizzard’s SEC Filings if you’re interested in what they tell investor about how the company’s doing and where they’re headed in the future.

Just because direct forum interaction from devs works for Eve, EQ, and FFIV doesn’t mean WoW is obligated to do the same. Blizz clearly does not think the pay-off of interacting on the forums is worth the time lost doing actual development.

Honestly that’s just a bs excuse, even the developers on eve online. Take a lot of flak but they say this is what we’re doing this is it this is how we’re thinking this is what going to happen…same with EQ fourms and those two fourms are are just as god I hate using this word “toxic” as this

They don’t get paid enough to deal with the people on the forums

They used to. Then they realized that only about 8-10% of players actually come to the forums, let alone post. Added to the “quality” of the overall feedback here and it’s not surprising they just don’t bother.

The overwhelming majority of players don’t know basic rotations, understand mechanics, how to sim or grasp why the game isn’t balanced around their lfr/ normal raid of grey/ green parsers.

Risk of getting fired.

I don’t know social media is pretty popular and that’s basically all it is. Granted it’s usually self reassurance but still

Because the community on these forums is awful.

It’s fairly benign compared to a lot of other places and I’m talking video game forums.

The biggest downpoint of this community is how diverse it is. Who doesn’t love diversity but when you have this many different opinions they’re going to clash. The expectations of what the game is or should be is so disjointed.

I haven’t quite seen anything like this before. Mix that in with nerds are passionate… It just seems worse than it is. It’s just emotions running high for something they care about (Maybe too much?)

Because this isn’t and has never been a direct line to the development team.

This is a community forum. It’s literally just a place for the community to chat amongst ourselves when we otherwise wouldn’t have that opportunity outside of third party sites like reddit.

The Dev’s don’t read the forums. They get some of their ideas from reddit and a majority of them from streamers/Youtubers.

People coming here asking for change is literally just screaming into the void. They think they’ll get their message to Blizzard, but the only people here are other players.

Ps. Blues are just moderators and community managers. Basically people here to babysit us to make sure we’re playing nice(ish). Not part of the development team.
