Why does WoW allow additional keybinds?

Adding additional keybinds takes away hand dexterity and real skill that could be juggled in the game. Instead people can add additional binds/hotkeys and cast spells instantly. It makes no sense that the game would be this way.

If we want WoW to be a real judge of skill we should get rid of keybinds and let players really use their hand dexterity to cast spells with their mouse. Otherwise one can just run their head over the keyboard and do well.

youre asking why wow players are allowed to use their keyboard on a pc?

You might be the only person in the world who views clickers as skilled

This thread is a perfect example of how a great rating != great intelligence.

op here: hand dexterity is skill
op in that other thread he made: i only want 4 abilities

In conclusion, op lacks hand dexterity.

he’s not entirely wrong. look at fps shooters, which are infinitely more skill based than wow. all rely on mouse usage and hand to eye coordination.

wow is essentially a fast paced turn based game.

Comparing this rpg to a fps is entirely pointless

ofc it is. clicking would never work in wow. i’m just pointing out what his logic could be.

And then you have rts like brood war where you need to hotkey 10 million things to play effectively. At least as Terran, we all know protoss just a move zealot dragoon across the map with no keybinds.

So obviously we need more keybinds to allow for more skill expression

Having more keys to press isn’t more skill. A lot of the skill is in positioning and reacting to cooldowns in efficient ways. Have more buttons can make it harder and more skillful I guess, not by a lot tho. Once you have your rotation down, it’s just muscle memory.

The one thing I’ve noticed about the best players I’ve gone up against, is that they’re always at the right spot, at the right moments. Having more keybinds doesn’t really mean anything.

Wait… What?

yeah thats why we need to double keybinds by doubling the amount of abilities in rotation. more skillfull.

Nah. Completely pointless skill expression. It’s more engaging, not skillful tho.

You’re only saying this because you could never master your buttons to defeat Heihachi

I mean idk. Knowing where to be in relative to the abilities you have on hand and the abilities the opponent has, is way more mentally engaging; than me my 3rd different damaging that’s just a filler and does absolutely nothing.

You will be more mentally engaged by having double the abilities to take into account. This is why Forest Law spamming somersault flip could not beat the superior Heihachi, no mental engagement.

Sure yeah it can. And I said it can, but not by much. 90% of skill is based on positioning knowledge and other fundamental basics. Positioning being the #1 needed fundamental to preform well.

There are other factors that come to mind that could prove your theory, like an arcane mage having a difficult play style on top of a difficult rotation. Things like that can def make you a better player if you can make it work as well as something like a dk.

So, you are mostly right about more buttons mean more skill being required. But when you take the best of the best, the battle always comes down to who has more fundamental knowledge.

I could give examples but I really don’t feel like it.

counterpoint: fighting heihachi. your only positioning decision is to be to the left or right of him, and he doesn’t care when he’s coming at you with his lightning hammer

Isn’t there ducking in that game? And blocking? Also moving left or right are perfectly legitimate forms of positioning.

idk, all i can remember is being snapped in half by that overtuned piece of crap. and then when i finally won and unlocked him, he sucked >:(
