those people are the ones that need to be in guilds. If they want perfect all the time that is what guilds are for. PuGs are sloppy, they always had been sloppy.
Oh wow. No, PuGs are where you’re looking to be in-n-out, Guilds are where you go to develop, unless it’s a progression guild, and even then it’s not off the table as some are open to teaching.
PuGs are players-as-facilitators. I mean, we’ve run learning pugs, but they are an infinitesimal minority.
I mean, I’ve always known guilds are where to go to grow, since Vanilla.
Your perspective is skewed. People don’t use Raider IO because they want perfect all the time. They use Raider IO to try to minimize the chance of failure. There is a difference. Perfection would be +3 chesting every key all the time. People don’t use raider IO for that. They use it to ensure the key is completed.
That’s it. Your vision on guilds is also skewed. Mossclaw said it well:
They’re right. Guilds are where you go to grow. You said yourself there is comradery in guilds. You could easily find people to have comradery with. There are casual guilds too.
I’ve never been on the Mage Discord, and in my experience the Warlock one was a lot friendlier than the DH one in particular.
Unfortunately, “sim it” and “read the stickies” are going to be accurate answers to many absolutely basic answers like “is X item an upgrade” or “when do I want to use Y talent”. Setting up your character isn’t always set in stone and it’s often the correct answer is “well…it depends”.
Which is where stuff like logs and raidbots comes into play.
I don’t know very much about Mages personally, but here’s some resources that might help you when you’re struggling:

Raidbots is a fantastic tool for measuring upgrades and how different setups will work. Guides will never be more than a rule of thumb and won’t help you with two items that are relatively similar.

This is a little bit outdated, as it was recorded in Legion, but it’s still a solid basic guide for being able to read logs and use them to improve yourself as a player.
Yup I heard some discords are more helpful and friendlier than others.
I know “sim it” and “read the stickies” are legitimate answers for smart people, but they’re just something I have always had a hard time understanding. Early on in Ny’alotha I got really lucky and won one trinket off of Ra-den, and bonus rolled the other. I couldn’t find any information on whether both together would be good, and no one in the mage discord would tell me either. Bloodmallet didn’t take into account their rankings when both trinkets are used together, and I ended up giving up.
Raidbots I struggle to use because it throws everything off every time I get a new pair of socks, and I’ve stockpiled so much gear I can’t tell which combos to test.
And logs, I don’t even think any exist of what I’ve done recently.
I’d be happy to hop in discord with you and show you how to run logs. They can be set to private so only you can see them.
Not now. I haven’t slept yet, but if you’re interested just pst me on btag sometime
I only pug my M+ keys and I don’t have a guild. (The one this character is in doesn’t count, it’s a spam invite guild I joined so people would leave me alone.)
People who pug aren’t all sloppy casuals who don’t care about progressing. And for some of us joining a guild isn’t an option.
Sees all the usual suspects in one thread
I’m impressed by your elite-bait skills OP, but these kinds of threads are getting boring and repetitive. You get 2/10 from me.
Is that your corona transmog? I like it. lol.
Not really, you’re trying too hard yet again.
Nose covered, nips out. CDC approved.
That’s pretty…logical.
Glad I’m not the only one that thought it was that. apparently thinking that makes you a troll though.
You being a troll makes people think you’re a troll, silly.
A lovely troll, with a boopable snoot though.
I’m glad the usual suspects are defending you OP, they’re glad you started this boring thread. This is what they live for.
I suppose the best answer would be to rephrase your question.
Instead of asking “whats the best talent setup” isn’t going to get the best answers, but phrasing the question as “The sticky says X, but what about in Y situation” tends to get more accurate and in-depth responses.
Honestly, the Ra-den trinkets are complicated and no-one really had a solid answer to whether they’re good together or not for a long time.
The general consensus now is that the set bonus isn’t worth it considering the Crit Trinket is pretty bad, but it took a long time for that consensus to be made.
The trick with Raidbots is knowing how set it up properly and not just do basic sims and compare the two.
A good example of that is if you just do a basic Patchwerk sim, then Raidbots will massively devalue everything about Destruction because Destruction is awful on ST. But there’s actually very little ST in Nya’lotha, so you basically gotta sim for cleave if you want accurate answers.
If you choose not to take Annastasi up on their offer (or just forget about it cause they’re going to sleep soon, it happens), here’s a very quick guide on setting them up for yourself.

You wound me, I’m on the floor bleeding out. You words cut so deep, this may be more then merely a flesh wound. I thought you had more respect for me then to think I am a troll. I’m just highly opinionated.
If it’s any consolation you’re still one of my favorites.
I hope so, because somehow I accidently used my last like on you even though I thought I had already used my last like. I guess I get a new one every hour? I don’t understand this system.
nvm looks like the like didn’t go threw it was just a browser error showing it?
There’s a limit on them? Huh. I had no idea.
