Why does Slice and Dice exist?

Serious question, what does it even add to gameplay? It’s trash. I distinctly remember Blizzard actually REMOVED it a long time ago citing it was “bad gameplay” because it doesn’t feel like you gain something, just feels like you’re punished if you don’t do something. They literally said that.

And then, suddenly, it came back? I imagine this is because of the “unpruning” garbage that people keep regurgitating, but when SnD was gone, the game was better for it.

Please remove Slice and Dice again, it does nothing and is a headache on an already overly complex class.

My guess is it exists to increase a rogue’s attack speed and energy regeneration.

I also think these are the reasons.

Because of the song Blizzard made

How would they sinister strike, eviscerate, cheap shot, backstab, slice n dice, ambush, rupture, blind

If they didn’t have slice n dice

The Same reason Enhancement Shamans got their “enhancement” abilities back, even though they used to be passives. And the same reason Balance Druids got their Eclipses Back, instead of the Empowerment system from Legion.

Uprunning brought back a lot of pointless stuff from WoW’s past that was gone for a reason, without actually giving any thought as to why it was removed.

They Removed Enhancements because they were glorified passives with no choice behind them. Originally you had a choice of which enhancement to use with things like Frostbrand or Earthliving Enchant, but once it was as simple as using Flametongue or Windfury, Blizzard simply removed the abilities and made them passives.

Eclipses have always felt clunky, but in legion you instead got empowered charges of your astral power generators to make the spec flow better.

Rogue Slice and Dice benefit was baked into the class in Warlords to allow rogues to focus on fun abilities instead of Maintenance buffs.

But, Shadowlands brought it all back, because they had no idea how to market their crummy expansion, so they tried to appeal to player nostalgia and blundered entirely.

I like slice and dice. Its a short term combat buff that does a load of damage. If you turn off floating combat numbers…every skill becomes slice and dice. The fact that not seeing an instant damage number pop up when you press it is causing you such dismay…is a you thing.

Agreed and I’ve been under that impression this whole time.

OP here’s a link to the wowhead rotation where you can see more in depth where and how to use SnD. Hope it helps:

Personally, I wish there was talent that replaced slice and dice with a passive of some sort. That way people who like slice and dice can have it, but those that dont like it can get something else.

only real sweats love this. the second they brought this back i complained. Im still complaining. Its garbage. And i dont care that two rogues on the rogue forum tell me up is down. Its trash. It was always (as a dagger rogue in vanilla), trash.

It makes the spec i love super clunky and should be removed.

Generally I use slice and dice if I’m about to slowly lose my combo points that way I have about 15 seconds or so to use my abilities a little faster. Imo it’s a way to prep transitioning from out of combat to in combat during an instance.

I’m sorry I was just trying to be helpful. The question was about the purpose of SnD, not if it was good or bad.

I didn’t say it was good.
I said here’s the purpose.

You’re absolutely welcome to dislike it.

I just wish Recouperator was not bugged with Assas Spec

It does not recognize that Slice and Dice is active with Cut to the Chase speced. I reported this the entire time 10.2 was on the PTR. Guess what 10.2 is live and its still not fixed. Its not game breaking but its an annoyance

If I remember correctly when they removed it, they baked this into the base design.

@OP it is a stupid upkeep mechanic to keep you pressing a button every GCD… It is Blizzards new exciting design philosophy… doesn’t it make you excited?

To make your rotation harder. That’s it.
Upkeep buffs are some of the worst parts of WoW combat gameplay by far.
They make a lot more sense as a CD.

Slice and Dice - 3min CD, 30s duration - Increases your energy regen and attack speed by 50%.

Isn’t that a lot better?

Disagree man. Slice and Dice is super EZ to keep up. Especially as assas with Cut to the Chase speced. Its up 24/7

First they came for detect traps and I was silent,

Then they came for door locks and I was silent,

Then they came for flowy wind lines, and I was still silent, cause stealth is cool

Rogue builds used to be based on attack speed. So, at one time S&D was an important talent. I think people just wanted it back so blizz brought it back. It came back after the popularity of the vanilla classic release, didn’t it?

To make you use combo points, energy, and a global on a stupid upkeep spell! That’s why!

Bonus: You cannot escape it, all three rogue specs have this stupid buff to think about!

To make people miserable and reroll to something else.
