Why does every hunter use a ravager?

Is there a reason for this? Some sort of passive buff or something?

Cuz they’re slightly more DPS over other pets

Because it’s an infinitesimal difference but you gotta be meta man. My understanding is the Cat, Raptor, maybe some others do the same damage but they don’t have Gore, and Gore can potentially do more damage than Claw.

Because it’s scary looking…

Personally I prefer a wind serpent because they are a little more manageable.

They have an ability no other pet has. I want to say its gore, and that ability can do double damage, which scales very well with gear and makes more of a difference as you progress through TBC.

I rather have a stealth pet so I can /afk with them.

Ravager is BiS

By like 10 dps lol.

Because Wowhead says it’s BiS dps, and so that’s what everyone is doing, even if it’s only like a 0.1% difference.

How am I going to parse if I don’t have that extra 10 dps?

Actually they are less manageable, their lightning breath ability causes them to pause if cast outside melee range, leading to a dps loss. This can be managed by a macro but its not really ideal.

I hate the wind serpent.

I like the ravager tho.

I hate cats.

This next tier seems really really bad tho for pet AI.

As a tank, the ravagers are definitely super annoying since one of their abilities taunts and the hunter can’t turn it off without losing a lot of DPS.
That’s why I, as tank, prefer the Wind Serpent.

I agree – nerf ravagers, buff crabs.

Do you mean growl? Every pet has growl.

Gore, ravager’s special ability, does not taunt.

None of their abilities have a taunt attached to it.

Not sure what you’re talking about

Whenever I get around to leveling my hunter alt, I think I am going to use a cat (lynx), just because it’s super boring being like everyone else, and I think the dps difference is tiny. According to Wowhead, cat and raptor are next best to a ravager for PvE and “come close” dps-wise. Cats and raptors also have more hp, so I’d call that a wash.

If he’s losing threat to a pet as a tank because of growl he needs to revaluate his tanking career.
