It’s foolish to say vanilla has no relevance to conversation about the current game. It may be youre responding to a specific situation in which it wasn’t relevant, but unfortunately you have chosen to give us no context.
If you want to discuss raid design. Maybe you’re comparing larger to smaller raid sizes; classic is relevant.
Maybe you’re discussing how hunter pets would feel cooler if individual pets were more unique; classic has plenty examples of the downsides to that.
Really, there’s countless conversations about the current game where bringing up classic is relevant.

The reason why? Cause most of the threads are people crying and complaining about little things, and weren’t around when the game was in it’s rough stages. They think they have it hard and everything is so hard, so yeah people compare about the past to show some of the entitled criers that there were tougher times and that the game is alot more streamlined now, shouldn’t complain having to do a few extra quests, and having to wait a little bit to fly, god for bid use your ground mound or your flight whistle, or hearth stone, or dozen other ways to travel around now.
Well I did give some examples. The way rep is handled, flying, leveling all the vanilla methods are irrelevant regarding those three topics.

I’m a lot more responsible now than I was in Vanilla.
So why is it relevant to reference a 15 year old model? The “rough” times are gone. In the past. You think people don’t have a right to voice their opinion just because the model from 15 years ago exists?
If you don’t study history, you will just end up repeating the past.
I think part of it is people complaining about things with the current game (like not having flying) and saying they are unsubbing until classic comes out, and then people pointing out that classic didnt have flying.
With classic coming out there are a bunch of comparisons going on.
Who said anything about being mad?

It means “to put things in perspective”. All people are doing when they compare current situations with the difficulties of the past, is putting things in perspective.
Like saying, ‘see how bad things have been in the past? it’s not so bad now…’
It’s a way of not letting yourself drown in the negatives, but rather acknowledging that things are still somewhat better than you might have had to deal with before.
Some of those changes were unnecessary and made out of spite from the devs, like the WoD flying changes.
