Why do you play classic?

“Why do you play classic?”

Because I enjoy it.

I’ve just started trying out Classic Era properly and I’m loving it. I’ve socialised with more people in the past two days than an entire month in Retail.
Both have pros and cons.

Mostly for the pvp:

  • Hunting for skirmishes in world pvp - vanilla was always the best for this due to the lack of flying mounts and the number of things people need to farm in the world.
  • The hidden depth from all of the crazy items, and the possibilities that come from that. Outnumbered? Rocket helm someone or use a magic dust. Class mismatch? There’s probably a specific consumable or item that negates one of their advantages. Fight not going your way? Invisibility trinket or potions, speed boots, net. Etc etc etc.

Warriorcraft, Roguecraft, in the WPvP department. Not worth it for any other class unless you want to mbox.

I won’t play WoW so early like that. Even SoD is too early for me, but I am looking at it with interest.

You forget that when there was Kung Fu pandas, it was the BEST PvP experience of ALL time. You would also forget that when it was DHs flying shooting lasers like Devil Jin, it was considered one of the best overall expansions. But I guess it depends on how much you care about PvP. If you like only two classes dominating everything, then Classic Era is perfect, as opposed to all melee and all hybrid specs dominating.

people on this forum are vanilla extremeists that think its the best game ever created til this day, yet they refuse to admit and see flaws in its current state. truly astounding how ignorant and mentally ill some of the classic andys are

There are weekly pvp quests and world quests that require you to turn war mode on and go to a certain areas to either do quest objectives or kill players. There are also war crates dropping at random locations that similar to guribashi chest. If you are into world pvp then on retail you can do that all time, but you have to fight with people of your size. Unless you prefer sitting the whole day on the roads trying to ambush low leveling players or some random dude who only wants to move from point A to point B then classic pvp is better.

Vanilla WoW has it flaws but that’s what makes it perfect, if everything was balance out then just turn into retail. scale mobs, classes become more stale due everyone having same abilities. The game drifts further away from mmorpg before you know it nobody talking everyone is doing solo content in a delve and microtransactions start appearing because blizzard starts seeing community wanting nothing but QoL features above game play and content. That’s why WoW now just copys old skins and has not most creative content cause players settle for everything easy and handed out to them…SHEEP.

Can you tell what classes are identical on retail ? Because playing another spec of same class is so different that it is alike to playing another class.

Retail = everyone moves at 900% speed, unlimited energy rage or mana to never stop pressing buttons. unlimited gap closers. unlimited aoe. zero cc. zero skill. just faceroll keyboard and see big numbers.

Does every class not have self-healing now?

Funny how Retail has so much more to offer and don’t get me wrong. I do enjoy the aesthetics and ease of life upgrades that isn’t on classic, but Classic era just feels like an actual MMORPG.

Gear actually matters WHILE you are leveling. Classes actually mattered and you had to be careful when to fight and strategically pull mobs and hope they don’t run away and aggro more.

It has a much greater challenge and as frustrating as that can be, it’s really refreshing not to be rushed to end game.

You can actually enjoy doing a dungeon with a party. Nothing was instant so upgrading gear made a huge difference and achievements meant more.

Why do you care anyway? Is Classic affecting your gameplay somehow? No need to hate on people for what they enjoy.

So am I … if only we could make Blizz roll back the changes to Era and never touch it again, I’d be happy.

… and why even come here and make such statements? Just play Retail and be happy you’re not forced to either play Era or even to go to this forum. I am a Vanilla extremist, but never, ever would I dream of going to the Retail foums to say for instance: Hey guys. WW would be so much better if we just added [crazy idea here], and removed [another crazy idea here] … and btw., you’re all a bunch of Retail so-and-so’s!

What’s wrong with every class having self-heal ? You are fine with every class doing dmg but not self-heal ? In fact, isn’t using potions also a form of self-heal that every class does ?

No, I don’t hate classic. I have raided in every classic modes. I am just curious how you can stick with this outdated and stagnated game for so long.

  1. Having a healing potion is not the same LOL The ability heals that comes with every class pales in comparison to a health pot in classic.

  2. Did I say you hate classic? No, but you certainly are “hating” on the people that do. If anything is stagnate it’s retail. New content all the time, but it’s yet the same formula. Rush to max level, Farm x currency in this zone for gear upgrades, do mythic +/raid…
Stagnate since what? 8-10 years this has been the formula?

It is not retail formula, it’s MMORPG’s formula. Name me one game that doesn’t have this formula. You hate this formula? You should also hate classic era. Remember 2019 release? Everyone was rushing to 60s, then rushing to finish raids on each phase. You don’t level up new alts to repeat the circle that you dang hate, do you? Of course, there are some odd balls in era, so are in any other wow modes including retail. And actually there are more odd balls in retail than classic because they have other things to play than just leveling, raiding.

Is this your best argument ?
Again, you haven’t pointed out what makes classes identical if everyone has self-heal. Each class has a different self-heal profile and through put. You are fine with all classes being able to dmg, and it doesn’t cause classes identical but self-heal does ? Healing pot is weak but also a form of self-heal, isn’t it ? And every class can do exactly the same, but well, it’s fine as long as you see it fine?

Please talk for yorself - and this statement is falsified as I did not rush to 60. I levelled a bevy of alts, I did not rush, and as a matter of fact not all of them atre even level 60 today - I have been subbed most of the time since 2019, still play, slowly, still love it.
Just because you cannot see the beauty and fun in Era does not mean it is not there for many of us.

Please, read again. I also said there are some odd balls, but so there are in any wow game modes. The minority doesn’t reflect the state of the game. And actually, people who are not into end game have more things to do in retail than classic wow.

Ah, OK. Now I’m an oddball. Thanks a load.

I’ll have to take your word for this, because I have not played Retail since the winter of 2018.
At that time levelling in Retail held no fun for me what with integrated Quest helpers, glittering objects, scaling, golden arrows, auto-everything, super fast XP rates, quasi-immortailty, spoilsports mouse-over tips, and a zillion things that could only be done at max level. I guess that this have not changed since, so I’d like to stay in Era.
Kind regards, your Vanilla extremist, Classic Andy, and oddball, Vanillataur.
