Because im a masochist and enjoy hurting myself. Every other class is too easy to play to keep me interested. With our natural born reliance on others to make up for our shortcomings, it makes edging it out as a warrior a never ending struggle to compensate for lack of roundness. Every day is a hard fought day. Every victory was worked for.
I play warrior because discretion and being careful are not my strong points. And because quite frankly, its the only class I’ve been happy playing consistently since bc. Regardless of what I play for other classes. I always get pulled back to the ol sword and board
Not to be THAT person but the Rage thing we have is technically Chi, just channeled very, VERY differently from how a monk would.
But yeah, we have nothing, except ourselves, and in a world where we’re fighting against or with gods and demigods empowered by magic, there’s nothing more badass than this.
I do not disagree with you at all… in fact I have used this exact ideology to justify as to how a warrior can fight against spellcasters within the roleplay perspectives of this game ^.^
Unrefined and chaotic wear as a monk and their chi flows like water the Warriors rage is uncontrolled, focused, and directed, but uncontrolled like fire
I think it’s because of the Charge ability. I was drawn to the plate classes early on, and Charge really seemed to sum up what was different about Warriors and Paladins. Mobility. Momentum. Aggression. Fluidity. Just that great sound that it makes; it’s one of the most fun buttons to press.
I always liked how the class wasn’t based on magic, but was based on physicality, vitality, and tactical pressure.
I’ve been thinking about this in Shadowlands, though. There’s been waves of homogenization for a long time, and many classes share similar spells. Now with the covenants, you really have the option (or expectation) to become almost a cross-class hybrid. Basically all of the covenants give you magical powers of some type.
Since I’m Night Fae, my character plays almost like a Warrior/Druid. I can turn into a tiger and blink while regenerating. I could spec to auto-self-rez as a seed. I can shockwave again, but now it’s nature damage. Other covenants have Shadow, Arcane, etc. We’re all magic users now.
Sometimes I wonder if this further erodes the class identity. It has fun to play so far, though.
I always liked to play a “regular adventurer” kinda of character in rpgs, just a regular guy exploring a world full of magic users and mistery, so my favorite classes/specs are MM Hunter, Outlaw Rogue and Warrior, but the warrior is my favorite overall, i love the gameplay, in arms you can feel how powerful every hit is and spaming condemn is awesome.
Also I like the class fantasy of beating the sh*t out of someone with a big weapon.
Charging into battle smacking things in the face. Warriors have a very visceral playstyle with their animations and sounds. Warriors were also the original tanks so that’s another reason I chose warrior. They also get to use a variety of weapons and plate armor looks good.
Although there’s other classes I enjoy it’s just not the same rush as playing a warrior, they will always be my first love.
I first started Mmos in Everquest and had an enchanter who was the controller of the group but after that I’ve always made melee characters because I gravitated towards tanks who “control” things. I like to have a big impact on group performance and most of the time that’s your tank.
Although parts of warrior can be frustrating right now (looking at you necrotic / tyrannical) I still have a blast tanking on my warrior.
I quit in cataclysm and came back for Shadowlands and was pleasantly surprised at the new charge animation. Shoulder slamming into your enemy has to be one of my favorite animations in the game!
I played a barbarian in Diablo 2. When wow came out I rolled a human warrior. Unfortunately I ran into this wild woman at a tavern and ended up in the barn. I woke up in the morning and she was gone but she bit me and passed on this curse.
For me, it’s all about bringing the biggest stick to the fight. But what’s better than a massive 2 hander that cleaves your foes into tiny pieces? Unrealistically dual wielding massive 2 handers to turn them into mincemeat.
When I started playing retail I was leveling as a hunter, but then saw Titan’s Grip and my MMO life was forever changed.
