I still don’t understand why this isn’t a thing. If someone bids on something you shouldn’t be able to say “Nah, I changed my mind” and take it down. Hell, that’s why we have minimal and buyout. Making something super low bid should be a risk, not a free ticket each time to pull down because the bid isn’t fitting.
The retail auction house isn’t better at all. Both are trash.
just download auctioneer or TSM and save yourself
I suspect that auctioneer is one of the main contributors to the auction houses problems. It queries the auction houses database to an even more excessive degree and just keeps trying over and over. The solution to the auction house having lag isn’t really to query it 100 times more.
People adding 5000 stacks of 1 linen cloth also doesn’t help anything. Nobody is ever going to buy your 1 linen cloth for a silver. Honestly, they should make things like auctioneer against the ToS or break some part of the API that makes it possible so that the sheer amount of time it takes to needlessly list a thousand trash items becomes too great.

Nobody is going to do it manually. Auctioneer would still find full stacks of linen at the correct price per unit that you want. What is the point of an auctioneer user listing 1000 stacks of 1 so that only auctioneer users can buy them in bulk?
auctioneer only looks at the price yes, but if 30 single stacks is cheaper per unit than the stack of 20 (which it usually is) I will just easily buy that.
This is a problem with the person listing them. You are correct in buying the cheapest option. The person who listed 30 stacks that came out to be cheaper should have listed them in the maximum stack size to come out to the same price per unit that they wanted. Very rarely do people need extremely small quantities of items that are possible to have huge quantities of.
Just use an AH addon, can sort through those auctions easily.
As for the lag side of it…you chose to play on a mega server, now you deal with those consequences
yes people not using auctioneer are often stupid and list things either far too expensive (crying that they can’t make money on the AH) or list things too cheap and people like me buy it out to resell.
This is pretty much irrelevant though. The point is that there is lag likely due to addons such as auctioneer which query the database a lot. More people using auctioneer to query the database even harder isn’t technically a solution.
The solution to lag is either Blizzard improving the server through optimizations and better hardware or from the database being queried less. There is only one of these things that the players have control over.

How do you know the retail ah version wont lag on a megaserver in classic?

You shouldn’t need to query 10 times to get 1 result. Blizzard needs better servers.
if you use auctioneer you see 1 page…seems like the only problem here is a refusal to use a 14 year old addon
