Why do some people hate flying?

My problem with flying is that Net-o-matic has 10 second cooldown and there’s always groups of alliance ganking, never alone. It usually goes like this on a normal day:

I fly to do a WQ, group of alliance is doing it, group of alliance sees me, first net-o-matic comes out, I pterrordax swoop away to safety, land on ground, mount up, same alliance catches up to me, nets me again, I levitate to safety, party member number 2 or 3 catches up to me, nets me again, no escape, im dead.
I resurrect far away, they somehow see me, net me again, im dead again.
I take spirit rez and just leave, annoyed.
It honestly got so annoying I turned warmode off. I don’t hate flying, I hate the net-o-matic.

You know, cold weather flying actually made sense to me. Same with (was it mist flying) in MoP. They at least attempted to give us lore reasons why the characters had to earn flying again. Not the case with PF.

For me, Flying is just not something that brings any value to the actual World.
No content is designed for flying and you can’t DO anything on your flying mount.

The bigger problem is that flying is just insanely convenient and that kills just about any semblance of a dangerous world.

This means less PVP but it also means you will see less players on roads or hubs, you will interact with less enemy types because you will fly over the stuff you don’t need, and most importantly, you will move so quickly through the world and zones you will take more of the game for granted.

My ultimate problem with flying is the mentality it embodies.
Its basically easy mode for world content, and I see no reason why it should be in the game other than that.

If flying was very slow like it was originally in TBC, I think it would make a lot more sense.
The thought of flying at 300+ percent speed through the air over these already small zones is just hard to comprehend.

People want it because its quicker and allows them to spend less time doing things in the world, and that is the opposite of what the world wants.
Some one has to think of what Azeroth wants! At least Magni is trying :stuck_out_tongue:

Flying takes danger totally out of the equation. In this World of Warcraft. There is no danger anymore. No danger from mobs no danger from players. We are all just unkillable mana full heroes of the new world order, and it’s completely dry and tasteless.

Sorry, that’s a dev choice. We’ve already seen in this game and FF that flying can and has been designed with flying in mind.

Kind of rich coming from a rogue that can vanish from a pack of 10 mobs whenever they want and stealth through just about anything they want. Lots of classes these days have stealth or some variation to drop aggro and all danger entirely. Should we remove them?

I don’t like pathfinder 2 but that’s about it.

I want flying because zone design has been awful for me since going horde. I hate zuldazar and nazmir so much.

I don’t have a problem with it being rep locked if I could reliably farm rep at any time, instead of waiting on emissaries and WQs. Island expeditions are pretty good but unreliable in being able to farm them without my friends on.

I wish there was like a mob in each zone I could farm that gave 1-5 rep a kill. Even if it took me days of doing it at least I could still be working on it between WQs and emissaries.

Right, no need to be sorry. I am aware of this.
They COULD change it, but doesn’t look like they want to.
So just reacting to how things are currently.

Still, no matter what they did, it wouldn’t change how much easier it makes an already easy to navigate world. And how bad that hurts the MMORPG elements the world provides.

I only hate druids taking herbs in bird form.

That’s really it.

I accepted the fact that flying is here and staying.

Do you have an engineer or sky golem? They can herb while mounted.

Kind of surprised there isn’t mount gear for this by now.

Bingo. There are people who legit cannot separate Blizzard from themselves in their heads. Maybe because so much of their identity is wrapped up in WoW that they see any criticism as directed at them too.

Blizzard employees want/do not want something = those people want/do not want that thing too.

Oh you think I’m trying to save WOW? You’ve been mistaken. Also if I use my vanish on some mobs I waste a flash powder and won’t have it when alli try to gank me. Not gonna waste it on some mobs. This game is not and will never be the game I once loved. For a multitude of reasons.

I mean we could protest sorta like with the wow vanilla servers thing we did back in 2016, so that it shows people do care about flying and want flying but I do agree perhaps we should go back to the 280% speed on flying as a compromise but it was cost say 10k gold?

I find using a flight whistle and autoflying far easier and less in control of my character, but to each their own, I guess.

That kind of was already done in WoD, forcing Pathfinder to begin with. Devs seem to still be bent out of shape over it and the game has never recovered from that catastrophe of an expansion with its “major” selfie patch.

Honestly, I don’t think their customer base ever did recover from that loss of goodwill. The way Blizzard handled their “no flying” announcement was an utter fiasco. Watching it all unfold I got the impression that the biggest shock for many people was not that Blizzard had a bad idea, but the way that their employees reacted when their idea was trounced.

Because of that, they used up every single ounce of forgiveness that people might have shown for the expansion’s other shortcomings.

That said, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel a little bit of schadenfreude watching the announcements go from “no flying ever” to “seriously we mean it, now deal with it” to “come on guys, you’ll love it” to “here is how we will add flying back in to the game.”

I wouldn’t necessarily call placing locations out of reach of any method but flying “designing with flying in mind.” They could also code in the capability and animations to climb cliff sides and claim maps were designed with that functionality in mind.

If we really want to be pedantic about it, mounts overall are just speed boosts with an in-world icon between our legs. Certain mounts allow us to “swim” extra fast anywhere. It’s kind of a shame, but not really uncharacteristic of Blizzard, how basic it all is really.

People also confuse getting rewards for pvp with, just enjoying helping people getting ganked, or raiding a city, or having a resource on lock down, or holding a world pvp objective.

Ah yes, raiding a city where people would just go to another city to take care of their business while attackers got bored because, well, there is no real point because everything will just respawn. Resource on lockdown? This is WoW, that doesn’t exist lol. Ah, and PvP objectives, which didn’t exist before flight.

I’m pretty indifferent.

I’ve been playing classic a lot and I was surprised how much more engaging the world is when I’m not flying over it.

There are also very few flight paths, so there is a lot of travel time and it makes the world feel bigger.

But…

Flights been in the game too long to take it back.

“Design with flying in mind” is how we get the worms in the assaults and a million flying adds. Not sure if most players enjoy those added features.

And “just don’t fly if you don’t like it” isn’t a good argument. Purposely hamstringing yourself isn’t a method most people enjoy using.

That’s wild, we’re obviously playing two different games. Black lotus, Devilsaur leather, are contested. Every Sunday my guild helps our healers farm demonic runes in Azshara. We lock down all the camps they spawn at.

What? Plague towers existed man. You obviously have no clue what you’re talking about.

Yeah that’s how i feel It’s far too late.

this is honestly the only way to go.
