the biggest things i see people say are that it cuts world pvp ( usually against people who dont
want to world pvp, which i dont see how thats a problem) and cuts communication between others (which I see as kind of funny since there is still the zone chat and all that).
Was wondering if anyone else had any other view or if i was missing something
Very few people hate flying. The problem is with our current dev staff. I can see the issue with world PVP even though people did world PVP from BC to MOP with flight but whatever.
guess the main problem with the wpvp argument is that you still see tons of it even with flying (as shown in Lagz’itar), it just allows for the people who dont want it to do their own thing. They also added the net, which seems more of a troll tool than anything else
I’m assuming some people like ganking and want to watch the whole world burn? Just a wild guess.
Some folks get angry when it interferes with their ability to keep ppl from escaping in wpvp.
That’s about it
#gotGankedbyaPlayerKillerWhoFlewAwayAfterTeaBaggingMe
i remember how everyone would drop combat, mount up and fly away once WIntergrasp battle ended
Most of the “flying interferes with muh pvp” complaints are by gankers who are upset that their intended victims can fly away.
Rogue: “I see players over there questing. I’ll stealth over there and gank them.”
[Intended victim mounts up and flies away before rogue can get there, not even realizing he was targeted.]
Rogue: “Flying destroys muh wPvP! Get rid of flying!”
Another one i like is when said targets beat the ever living snot out of the rogue and the rogue then complains that said class is op.
Hard core Wpvpers seem to be the special sort
Some people just hate fun.
As you should probably know, the old saying goes: “it’s not about the tool but how you use it.” Flying is a tool that has to be embraced, now that Blizz opened Pandora’s box a decade ago in TBC.
Plus, there’s nothing more satisfying than netting a flying player out of the sky to watch them fall and splat.
id say that the net actually “fixes” the problem that wpvpers have with flying with the main exception being demon hunters or engineers with the cape glider
I dislike fighting my way through a host of mobs to try and get to an objective (ie. flags in Uldum) but having someone on a flying mount swoop in before I can finish killing the mobs and steal the quest objective from under my nose before flying away.
Other than that, I just feel that it’s another feature that takes away from the world appearing populated. It’s a compound issue, not simply a flying thing. Flying + Dungeon Finder = the appearance of a dead world from the ground.
Ultimately, though, it’s a case of differing opinions. Some people like it, some people don’t. The only time I find myself getting annoyed is when people start whinging and whining about design choices because they don’t want their precious removed (WoD) or delayed (Pathfinder).
/shrug
Players don’t hate flying, Blizzard did and probably because it’s resource intensive, probably because it would have lightened the workload.
Idk that really, just a guess.
Anyway, I think it was Blizzard employees who started that nonsense about removing flying to begin with because that’s what they wanted.
there are some sacrifices needed in order to make things more convenient for everyone, wether thats good or bad depends on the persons personal preferences.
Also, someone using stealth could do the exact same thing as people with flying, but not every class has stealth so its even more of a disperity
You are correct. There’s a reason I don’t tend to be terribly outspoken regarding my dislike of flying.
It’s in the game and it’s unlikely to go anywhere.
Because they’re not happy if the sun shines on someone else.
Ignore them.
Some people are just contrarians. They get off on being the opposite of everyone else, even if they secretly could care less.
So aside from ruining word pvp. I would say it removed a big design philosophy that was part of vanilla, which was the world being the main character not the player.
When you fly your removing yourself from the particular zone to cherry pick exactly what you want. It helped remove that aspect.
If you’re interested the orginal director did an interview in the count down to classic podcast. He touches on why he felt flying wasnt a mistake but should have not continued past the burning crusade. It’s the last episode part 1.
People don’t hate flying, we just wish it was handled better. I don’t want us flying at the start of every expansion because I want to see the story the way the team wrote it for us to see. It gives blizzard a way to let us experience a story while still being in an open world, and have less phasing in the world.
While Val’Sharah did have its problems, the story progression was very linear and made sense, and would have made much less sense if you were able to skip over different parts of the zones
Hardly anyone really cared about world pvp once the honor system came around. Kills in the open world rewards barely anything so barely anyone cared. People have a tendency to confuse world pvp with ganking.
