Why do people say this story is any good? (Spoilers)

Maybe look in a thread that isn’t started by someone who is making baseless accusations about the writing?

If you have legitimate issues with the story, great. But when you are objectively wrong in making the statements, like 90% of OP’s post, people will defend it.

You know the story isn’t done, right? We still have a year and a half of this expansion with several major story patches.

It’s also one part of a larger three part story.

Just chill a bit. It’s like reading the first chapter of a book and deciding that the entire book is crap.

I hear you, I guess I just don’t think the gap needs to be THIS big.

I mean, I’m sorry you feel that way (genuinely), but I’ve spent the last week of my resub-on-a-whim-because-bored being really surprised at the fact that I’m enjoying a Blizzard game’s writing. There’s plenty to criticize still; it’s not a masterpiece. I’ve agreed with a few points here and there of criticism throughout the topic. However, I am absolutely in the boat that this is the best writing they’ve done in WoW, and it’s paired with a really good gameplay experience.

Staying with Hallowfall - Priory feels SO disconnected from the plot, I wonder if Blizzard changed this storyline prior to release.

You coulda said PRIORY to release. Missed opportunity that woulda made this post worth reading. :stuck_out_tongue:

Genuine question: Are you OP’s alt.

No, I even liked his OP.

I think it’s time to take a step back and realize that maybe some criticism is warranted. You guys are pretty ridiculous lol.

Is it bad that I haven’t really cared about the story in this game since the Warcraft 3 days, and wolk? Just throw out some bad guys, and monsters to kill, and I don’t care about the history behind them

Yea I’m not read some block of whiny text on the forums. I’ve enjoyed the story. You can force yourself to always be miserable if you want.

It’s the attempts to constantly deflect. It shows a lack of confidence on your stance and an inability to be reasonable.

I’ve never understood brand loyalty, personally. I think it’s stupid. Whatever.

California is such a boogieman to you people lol

FYI, you can like your own alts’ posts.

I don’t believe you two are the same, you talk a bit differently and have different focuses, but just so you know.

I think a lot of people are willing to accept criticism of the game still, but the OP’s post is in wild contradiction to the common experience and put in a mildly confrontational way. It, unfortunately, got even more confrontational responses in return.

I don’t believe the OP’s position comes from not having done the quests, but I do think a lot of their issues are answered by engaging with the sidequests and possibly things were missed because it’s less blatant than we usually get from WC. That encourages some of the dismissive responses.

You can’t even comprehend that people just like or appreciate the story and have to reason that it’s “brand loyalty” … OK.

I actually have a hard time believe it, yes. It’s pretty bad. Videogames are known for their weak storytelling and WoW is weak even within that space.

But it’s more the attempts to deflect that make me suspicious for the reasons I already stated. Comes off as desperate.

Or perhaps they do not want to engage with bad faith opinions any more than they have to.

I’ve read better stories on a milk carton, just sayin

Well to be fair, the bad faith opinion would be the one compromised by brand loyalty. Criticism comes from genuinely not enjoying something.

You keep revealing yourself, honestly.

ok so general tip as I leave for lunch:

if you’re frustrated with not getting a nuanced discussion? engage more with the people who are giving you that nuance, even when they disagree with you. if you keep engaging with the people who are upsetting you (and are likewise upset with you) you are unlikely to get the more productive discussion you seek.

You want people to be reasonable, yet you yourself keep doubling down. Good luck with that.
