Maybe look in a thread that isn’t started by someone who is making baseless accusations about the writing?
If you have legitimate issues with the story, great. But when you are objectively wrong in making the statements, like 90% of OP’s post, people will defend it.
I mean, I’m sorry you feel that way (genuinely), but I’ve spent the last week of my resub-on-a-whim-because-bored being really surprised at the fact that I’m enjoying a Blizzard game’s writing. There’s plenty to criticize still; it’s not a masterpiece. I’ve agreed with a few points here and there of criticism throughout the topic. However, I am absolutely in the boat that this is the best writing they’ve done in WoW, and it’s paired with a really good gameplay experience.
Is it bad that I haven’t really cared about the story in this game since the Warcraft 3 days, and wolk? Just throw out some bad guys, and monsters to kill, and I don’t care about the history behind them
I don’t believe you two are the same, you talk a bit differently and have different focuses, but just so you know.
I think a lot of people are willing to accept criticism of the game still, but the OP’s post is in wild contradiction to the common experience and put in a mildly confrontational way. It, unfortunately, got even more confrontational responses in return.
I don’t believe the OP’s position comes from not having done the quests, but I do think a lot of their issues are answered by engaging with the sidequests and possibly things were missed because it’s less blatant than we usually get from WC. That encourages some of the dismissive responses.
if you’re frustrated with not getting a nuanced discussion? engage more with the people who are giving you that nuance, even when they disagree with you. if you keep engaging with the people who are upsetting you (and are likewise upset with you) you are unlikely to get the more productive discussion you seek.
