For some of us, we just lost our interest in the story when it took a turn completely away from the original fabric that built the world of Azeroth. I started playing the Warcraft series as a kid, found Orcs and Humans as a demo, and realized Tides of Darkness was out. I followed the stories through the first 3 RTS games, and then vanilla onward.
The vanilla version of WoW, into TBC and Wotlk kept me engaged. Even Cata was ok, as far as following through the storylines. I kinda lost interest with MoP - as far as I remember, Pandaren were a joke. I believe Samwise would add hidden panda faces in some of the art as a nod to this. But, as stories became twisted. Factions become interchangeable, and a lot of times, meaningless. We’re time traveling. I just lost interest in it all. We’ve deviated from the Warcraft part of the game.
Some people still like the current storyline, and that’s cool. I don’t unfortunately. That doesn’t make me a doomer though
The quality varies, that’s for sure. Just surprised at people bending over backwards to pretend WoW tells a decent story. They rarely do and this one is bad even for WoW.
It has literally been built up over 2-3 expansions now.
You mean the city that literally was blown up in the intro of the expansion? If you’re referring to Kul Tiras, they are not a city of mages.
Oh, so you just didn’t do any of the questing. Got it.
The void allied goblins, the kobyss, the cult of shadow, the earthen that decided to follow the void, Beledar’s existence in general, the radiant song of azeroth… but sure, they totally haven’t left any loose ends to explain where the story might go.
Why the hell would a zone anduin is not related to revolve around anduin?
This I do agree with.
We killed the people in the priory for resurrecting people with the Light.
…something Sylvanas did with dark curses constantly, and Anduin/Alonsus literally did with Calia.
So why the heck is that enough for us to charge in and murder them?
Better luck with you next deflection attempt I guess. Now that was obnoxious.
You’re right though, some people like anything. I just wish they audience here was a little more willing to not always say everything is great. You know?
You’re literally typing in a thread whose topic is criticising the story. People have done the same for SL and DF to hell and back. Where have you been.
It’s kind of silly to project the same standards of writing for a book onto an MMORPG.
I don’t even mean that in a quality sense – I mean, those are two narrative formats that are about as different as possible, to the point that the only thing they share in common is a language.
I will rag all day long on Blizzard for being bad writing and I’ve spent 20 years doing it consistently, TWW mostly excepted. However, to say the game is badly written because it doesn’t match the experience you expect out of, say, Jack Vance – that is simply being inflexible in your thinking. Not for me to speculate why the inflexibility.
Also, OP is fine, but can we stop getting this wink-wink-nudge-nudge stuff through the thread about the NEFARIOUS NATURE OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA? Y’all aren’t being clever, and it’s not the OP’s complaints, so don’t pollute their thread with your little conspiracy tangents.
