There is a major difference between just different animations and an entirely different body… that is my point… people have been CONSTANTLY claiming that the entire model is different when it isn’t… yes they got lazy with the faces (which I agree, is a very big factor)… and yes, they could have (and should have) ported over the animation rig from the nightborne NPCs to the playermodel… I’m just tired of people falsely claiming that they changed everything and that the nightborne NPCs were not built around the night elf body like the playermodel. They were.
Assuming they still have the files for the NPCs from before they switched to the slimmed body, then they can (and should) import the animations over to the playermodel, and restore them to the NPCs. After that, they just need to make the faces more angular and regal for the playermodel.

The faces to me range from mid life crisis to elderly couple.
I get they’re recovering mana addicts, but not all of them suffered the effects of withering.

I don’t think they are ugly but I’d love for their animations to get another pass. I don’t know squat about what goes into animating a model and even though people say that the nightborne use night elf skeletons, if you carefully compare them, the nightborne look like they use 75% of the frames for the animations that the night elves do. I’d also love it if they DIDN’T use any night elf animations and got their own unique style altogether.
I would say they’re ugly, but like Smashly said, their animations need another pass. In fact, I’d argue all of the allied races pre-ztroll/KT need another pass. Let’s be honest, right now Velfs are just a pale and gloomy flavor of Belf, Lightforged are just spacegoats with shiny tattoos and HM are just tauren with antlers, and tbh that’s just lazy. Sure, it makes for quick and easy additions to the game, but Blizz should really the extra mile and try to make these races more their own thing and less just an old race with a new coat of paint.
