Why do people like Negan from The Walking Dead?

I’ve been rewatching the walking dead. Just got to the end of the ep where Jeffrey Dean Morgan first appears. I previously quit viewing the show on tv when Karl was killed off. Dunno if I’ll make it any further this time.
I have to wonder at the mind of someone who could come up with a char like Negan. Gotta be some real sickness there. He’s not Dr Doom or Thanos. He’s not even one of those chars you ‘love to hate’. I can’t think of any other char from movies or tv who is as vile as Negan. JD Morgan must have had some sleepless nights just playing the char.
I mean, Negan makes the Comedian char he played in Watchmen seem like a choir boy.

People have told me the show humanized him in newer eps. Hard to see how. Nobody I know actually liked Negan. Everyone was hoping to see him die in some appropriate manner, preferably at the hand of Rick or Maggie.

Because Negan had some interesting character development after he was done being the bad guy.

He’s the worst. No wonder people like him

Whatever you think of the character, I gotta say I think he’s one of the best written and best acted villains in the whole history of television.

Honestly, I stopped watching it on Netflix when he became one of the group.
They built up Rick at some point getting his revenge. How much everyone wanted
to kill him. Then everyone is all of a sudden like, “Na, we’re good. Come and join us”.

Negan is also the reason the director decided to kill off Carl.
The director decided Carls death would give Rick motivation to keep Negan
around. Only to have “Rick” leave the show right after.

Negan is exactly how Donald Trump plans to run the country if he wins in 2024.

A vote for Trump is a vote for Negan.

Have you read the comics? Carl does survive until the end. Meanwhile Rick does die- so that part was right.

Stephen King exists.

I like the way Jeffrey Dean Morgan played the character more than anything else. I was a fan of his rolling over from being the Winchester dad on Supernatural. I don’t think it’s easy to play a convincingly cruel, sadistic character like that for long periods of time. He gave it serious depth even as the series culminated and gave more backstory. He really was one of the best written and fully developed characters on the show.

Rick didnt die in the TV show. They had this character that was also no longer going to
be on the show, take him somewhere in a helicopter to “save him” without ever
explaining anything. Then just left him in limbo. I havnt watched the final episode.
But Rick does show up in it
