That would be the hysteria I mentioned.
I think this is closer to the truth. I personally believe that classic could 100% overcome retail but I donât think any hardcore retailer thinks this at all.
But I do think that they hate when something takes attention away from the version of the game they like. I mean look at how they treat people when they even whisper a private server, they get all tattle tale-y, they start reporting, they hate that someone is enjoying a version of the game that isnât theres.
Now this isnât just a retailer mentality at all, all humans do this. Someone talks about how good pepsi is when coke is clearly better? What a moron! They are opening up a new soccer stadium in your city while your football field is older than sin, who the hell even plays soccer? Morons! Everyone wants their thing to be the biggest thing.
The only reason I feel so hateful against retail itself (not the players) is because this is what blizzard has been forcing on us for years without any other option. After release it will be 100% easier to ignore it.
Classic players are also guilty of this. The only solution is to distance yourself emotionally from the game when discussing it. Even removing my emotions from the equation, I still think Classic is a much better representation of a true MMORPG.
Classic players have seen the game they loved slowly taken from them, while the Retail playerbase was given everything they ever wanted. As a result, I can empathize with the bitterness of the Classic playerbase, but I canât empathize at all with the hatred displayed by the Retail playerbase towards those who want vanilla back.
Retailers have the game they want; we have nothing but illegal knockoff servers that Blizzard is constantly attempting to shut down.
Smells like his uncle works at Nintendo.
and the monkey paw laughed
Mostly because of the constant âClAsSic GoNnA KiLl ReTaiLâ BS yall spew every other post.
Plus the non stop elitism and fantasy idea that anyone will find classic raiding difficult.
actually most classic fans i have seen do not think classic will kill retail.
This is so on point! I started perusing the classic forum in November and there is no doubt a sense that retail players somehow arenât as refined as classic players. They are convenience-minded and donât have the patience or the âstaminaâ to play classic
i saw this too and laughed.
M,y gaming started with things like Wavy Navy on the AppleIIEâŚplayed loads of games that take MASSIVE patience and time. There was a memory game I used to play every day for years that gets faster and harder with each level, most of it was a speed read and comprehension test (try it, its like a sprint test for the mind).
No one is âconvenience mindedâ at all, many of us just, and Ill be honest here, draw a line between what we see as âtediumâ and real gameplay. It is every bit a question of perceptionâŚand that door swings both ways.
âRetail players fail at life.â,
I saw this as wellâŚseriously theres a disconnect with this statement the size of Gibraltar. Its a nice meme with no substance or proof to it, tied to this strange idea that how someone plays a game is how they are offlineâŚits ridiculous and funny at the same time.
Its even more ludicrous when the person they are having a go at lives thousands of miles away and they wouldnt know them if they passed them in the streetâŚso yeah it kinda does boggle the mnd.
Its a game at the end of the dayâŚthats all it is, all it will ever be.
Perspective above all.
we have nothing but illegal knockoff servers that Blizzard is constantly attempting to shut down.
With all due respect, you just pointed out why they should be shut down.
that may be true, and i completely agree, but the fact that they are shutting down private servers and providing classic fans with nothing else is exactly the reason classic should remain unchanged, despite some peoples fondest wishes.
with private servers shut down, where else would all those people go if classic was changed because of other groups?
with private servers shut down, where else would all those people go if classic was changed because of other groups?
Thats for Blizzard to sort out.
LookâŚI know you are enthusiastic etcâŚand thats good you have every right to be.
Just remember as well theres no need to create issues in a community where you may very well WANT people to come and play classic. The more the merrierâŚso ease up a bit is all I am saying.
BTW Matcauthoin: some years ago a kid got sick and tired of waiting for the next Harry Potter book so he started writing his own.
Her lawyers contacted him and told him to stop.
Her books her IP her characters her copyright. With all due respect, just because a company doesnt give you what you want isnt carte blanche to steal it.
first of all, i donât play on private servers.
second of all, those who want changes? they have a game with those changes.
those who want classic to be classic? have nothing.
so those who want to try classic out, i am fine with that.
them trying to change classic into something that interests them, at the expense of those who just want classic, i am not fine with.
you are not breaking any laws by playing on private servers, but you are breaking the blizzard tos
they are not even breaking any laws by hosting them, because they are in russia or whatever. US copyright laws dont have any jurisdiction there, and its not against Russian law
Oh man, that idea is mostly found over in General Discussion. This is the kind of thing you hear over there: âOMG YOU GUIZE GOTTA FARM FIRE RESIST AND REP FOR 40 PEOPLE TO GET TO RAG LOL YOUâLL SEE AND YOU GOTTA WALK EVERYWHERE TILL LEVEL 40 NO ONE KNOWS THAT THEYâLL HATE IT HURR DURR CANâT WAIT TO SEE ALL THESE SECRETS THAT ONLY WE KNOW BECOME CLEAR TO THOSE PEOPLE WITH ROSE-TINTED GOGGLES LOL!â
Oh, it is, just Russia doesnât see a point to enforce it.
The only statement I made that points out why they should be shut down is the word âillegalâ. I donât understand what youâre getting at here, nor why you think I made a conclusive case for shutting down private servers, enough so that you felt compelled to comment on it while simultaneously ignoring my actual arguments.
Nearly every other game ever made can be legally played today in one way or another. The same is not true for vanilla WoW. If not for private servers, it would be impossible to play vanilla at all.
they are not even breaking any laws by hosting them, because they are in russia or whatever. US copyright laws dont have any jurisdiction there, and its not against Russian law
The Berne convention, which is international law and which Russia signed, says otherwise.
It is illegal.
ROFL.
there are NO classic players.
Because classic isnât live yet
One would think that would make it even sillier to be mad at them.
