Why do people get mad at Classic Players?

For the same reason that people hate retail players I guess.

Some people get upset when you are enjoying something they don’t like and they feel the need to point out all the flaws and try and get you to dislike it too.

was going to say the same thing. there is lots of hate for bfa in this forum too, i guess its human nature

Vanilla was hard and there are probably a lot of players that had reputations as bad players, ninjas or all around a-holes. These toxic players have a toxic memory of vanilla and TBC with paid name/server/race changes allowed them to live their toxic wow lifestyles with no consequence.

For those players they obviously do not look forward to being held accountable for their actions. They don’t want to go back to a time where they can’t just ninja away to their hearts content and /namechange and do it again the next day. They see classic WoW as the end of their “fun”.

i think the difficulty is over stated somewhat. the challenge in leveling came from not over pulling. if you did over pull there wasnt much counter play to live, you just kind of died, especially early on

i wont say raiding and clearing naxx was easy, but it wasnt all that hard mechanically or twitch wise either. naxx was a big gear check for the most part

Classic fans are about 90% Retail haters and come off very negative and judgey. I originally thought Classic was a ridiculous idea, but once we got into BFA and I got past the hater gatekeepers, I have completely switched and am now planning several toons on Classic RP servers.

And yes, I still like Retail.

And no, Vanilla was not perfect.

Why do people “hate” fans of Classic? Because fans of Classic are often toxic and hateful. It is quite possible to love both Classic and Retail, and the neckbeard gatekeepers who force a false dichotomy on us are ruining the whole community.

Want more fans of Classic? Be positive in general.

Jesus you’re just as bad as the guy you’re replying to.

And this is an issue with lack of knowledge of the history of classic fans that have been here for years. Some of us may come off as rude toward Retailers and it is 100% justified.

Let me use an analogy for you. Let’s say you work at a company that happens to server you lunch. And the lunch they are handing out just seems to start tasting worse and worse every year you work there, you love working for this company but this lunch they are handing out is almost becoming unpalatable. You then start asking around saying “Hey guys would it be cool if we had an option for that spaghetti they use to serve us years ago? I mean you can keep the lunch you have now but can we have the option for the stuff I like?”.

And then at this company 95% of the other people there mock you, tell you to leave the company if you don’t like it, tell you it’s never going to happen, and this continues for years and years and years.

Then they finally announce they are going to be serving that spaghetti you really liked as an option next year. And then those 95% of co-workers that made fun of you are now saying “Hey spaghetti is an amazing idea! Except I don’t really like the meatballs they have and the sauce is too tomato-y so could we possibly just have the spaghetti taste similar to the lunch we have now?”.

You talk to the co-workers explaining to them for hours on end about how the spaghetti should just be what they promised us and taste like it did before. The coworkers then tell you “The spaghetti sucks though and noone is going to eat it like this it is just terrible”. Then you tell them “Well then just don’t eat it, I mean you still have the lunch YOU like on the table”. Then they come back and start flaming you “OH SO JUST BECAUSE I THINK THAT THE SPAGHETTI COULD BE BETTER YOU ARE TELLING ME NOT TO EAT IT YOU ARE SO TOXIC”.

This creates rage. If retailers came in here completely accepting our spaghetti we asked for then it would be 100% positive. But you and I both know that isn’t what happens.

Lol. Ridiculous.

Not ridiculous at all actually. You just don’t understand because you just joined the classic community once it became a real thing so you don’t understand what has been going on for the last 10 years.

you make a lot of good points. i will add that people asked for legacy server for years and it was usually met with, hell no you guys are dumb for wanting it and for thinking it could ever happen by people that didnt want it

its understandable that classic fans have an i told you so attitude now, the hate was real towards legacy servers around here during the previous decade or so

I do understand. I’ve played classic and every WoW iteration after.

That you claim being rude is 100% justified is just plain ridiculous. You can have the floor now, I can’t waste more time on this convo.

If you would like to give me a reason why it’s unjustified then please feel free to. The scenario I said above that you probably didn’t even read gives more than enough reason to be short with retailers coming in here asking for changes. I am not suggesting people being rude to retailers for literally no reason are justified. I am talking about the people coming in here and calling classic trash or that it needs changed. If someone who plays retail comes in here to just ask a question then sure there is no reason to be rude.

But if there is someone like starman, ziryus, and quite frankly people like you who come in here asking for changes bashing classic and how it needs changed… then yeah you got what was coming to you.

This being a zombie thread not withstanding.

Retail crowd hates classic crowd because they perceive classic as a threat to retail.

Classic hates retail crowd because they celebrate the changes that ruined the game for the rest of us.

It’s a polarizing us vs them mentality, ironically replacing the Horde vs. Alliance rivalry that has been eroding since TBC.

Who gets mad?

Notwithstanding your name which is just immature and should be banned, the hate you describe is only at the extremes of those two groups.

I think this stems from people being bitter because we’ve had to watch the game we loved and enjoyed being twisted into the abomination that is currently is.

They are afraid that they, or the people they normally play with will enjoy Classic more than retail.

But I mean come on, what kind of person prefers Sonic '06 over Sonic and Knuckles?

Every time I use an argument you don’t like, you make an ad hominim attack on my name.

Dude, this character dates back to 2005. Whatever you think it means now, it did not mean then. If it’s as offensive as you think it is, report it, I’ll take the rename, I don’t really care. Their new forum system limits the characters I can post from, I’m not using this one by choice.

Whiskee is one of the better known trolls on the site, I’d ignore/report and move on if I were you.

I don’t dislike or like an argument. I support an argument or oppose it.

Your name, I oppose. “Dude”

The extremes of classic and retail players may act with hatred, but most people aren’t extremes. In fact, none of the retail players I know harbor any hate for classic. They aren’t afraid of classic replacing retail. They don’t even think about classic or any of the gripes the extreme classic entusiasts posit. They don’t even care if you bash BfA. You know why? Because they are having fun.
