Why Do People Even Want To Be Carried?

Getting carried makes me feel like jabba the hutt and all around me are my slaves, whom I command to do my bidding.

But in all honesty I personally couldn’t justify spending money on carrys.

I know a fair few people who pay for carries more so to boost Alts, fresh Alt pays for a 15 carry, that 252 in vault is a huge leap forward in progress…

I think it’s more to get at a point where the game is playable at most content they enjoy.

The only reason i can see is for rewards that don’t go away after the tier ends. Things like mounts. I bought carries for normal garrosh back at the very tail end of mop so i could get the heirlooms not because i couldn’t pug normal but because i couldn’t do it fast enough to get them all. It was very late in the expansion by the time i finally got good enough to.

For just KSM (before there were mounts,) or just AOTC (in tiers with no AOTC mount) i have no idea. It smacks to me of buying a game then paying again to not play it. It’s really weird.

sometimes people get tired of walking, so they pay a meg mount to carry them the rest of the way

Its FOMO, fear of missing out.

And its peer pressure to finish your weekly homework.

I’ve paid for two carries - because I wanted the mounts (and had the gold). I’m older, have a bit of arthritis and well, am slower than I used to be. It’s just easier. I’m not looking to brag or use it as a stepping stone to other raids or mythic. I simply wanted the pretty blue flappy bird to ride on.

Technically speaking, they still “earned” it but just not in the traditional way… because they probably earned the gold (or the cash) used to buy the carry.

I’ve paid for two carries, both for mounts that were either going away at the end of the xpac or becoming very low drop rate. In those cases, it’s not about “achievement” it’s about getting the mount before it goes away. Very good uses for gold for me.

I have tried many time to find a guild on my realm that will allow me to join, not as a raider but as a social member to make some friends and do some m+ with, every time i am met with “no sorry we don’t take people like that”

Which means I have to join a scrub guild that invites anyone and anything to it and do keystones with them, the Alternative it to try and pug my way to KSM and whilst i was able to do that in Bfa season 4, trying to do in SL is just so painful i even tried to do it as a healer it was just not worth the effort when i could go farm gold and just buy it with less time investment and frustration.

Yeokay there champ. If you say so. I mean I know it goes on but it’s kinda cringy to admit you have to pay other folks to play the game for you. For any reason.

I’d keep that between yourself and whomever your paying.

Buying a token =/= Skill.

This is likely a lot of it.

What makes it an actual problem in game is when folks are using these services they paid for but didn’t earn as a means to gain access to content they have no right doing.

It was a huge problem in 8.3 and 9.0 but seems to have subsided recently…but that’s likely just because not as many people are playing hard currently.

I don’t understand carries when a mount is not involved. You see a cool mount you want, but it’s locked behind content you will never be able to do otherwise. Go on, get yourself a carry. “Prestige” in a videogame means absolutely nothing.

But these people that do it for gear? I don’t understand at all. You blow hundreds of thousands of gold for gear that will be useless in a couple months?

They don’t care about anything other than having advantages over other players.

“Sense of pride and accomplishment?” Thanks, EA :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve bought carries for mounts that are being removed. I don’t care about the “prestige”, and I sure don’t care about “earning” something that’s a game played for fun, not a job.

That problem would be avoided if they didn’t remove them in the first place.

If you don’t take pride in overcoming challenge and you don’t enjoy just playing the game what’s the point? EG I didn’t work hard to earn CE last tier because it was a job, i did it because it was enjoyable. I had fun doing it.

Exactly - but the ability of raid guilds to sell carries so ordinary players can get the mounts before they’re gone is deliberate design on Blizzard’s part.

These aren’t “prestige” mounts - those are the ones from mythic end-boss kills. These are “FOMO” mounts - get yours NOW because it’s going away! As advertised in the launcher!

There was a point soon after I started playing in Cata where Ghostcrawler said they wouldn’t be removing mounts any more after the backlash over the Naxx ones being removed.

That attitude clearly changed in late MoP - and I have to wonder whether them starting to remove stuff to create FOMO in the last patch before the token was introduced was, somehow, connected.

“Pride”? No, not especially. I had some good times with my old raid guild, but I don’t think any of us had “pride” after defeating an end boss. I mean, this game even tells you that pride is BAD (think SoO

But I do enjoy it - hell, I’m still here after most of everyone else has left. But I’m not kidding myself - I won’t be doing heroic raiding again, so if Blizzard wants to lock a desirable limited-time mount behind a heroic clear, I’m happy to pay for it. Not with tokens, but with my own gold. And I don’t see anything wrong with that - I played the game to earn that gold, so surely I’m accomplishing my goal with another style of gameplay, rather than playing dance dance raidolution on a work schedule.

And that’s fine. I enjoy making gold. Let me spend it how I like

You can just go screw yourself with that judgy attitude.

You are saying yes i enjoy it but i really don’t enjoy it.

There isn’t anything wrong with it in my mind but it doesn’t make sense to me since you rob yourself of the accomplishment of doing it yourself. Why continue on like this?

Go do whatever you want. But do expect me to respond on this public forum when you post.

I have paid for only 1 carry in my entire WoW career…Ahead of the Curve: The Black Gate. WoD was the first expansion where I really started to roll in the gold, so I treated myself to a fancy Grove Warden.

Nerve hit: confirmed.

The game isn’t heroic raiding. Heroic raiding is a tiny part of the game. I’m saying I enjoy the GAME. Not the “pride and accomplishment”.

But I did do it myself - I earned the gold by playing the game, and then used that gold to hire mercenaries to take me along with them to kill a boss so I could get the FOMO mount.
