Why do people claim wotlk classic is a true mmo? Not this time around

I’ve noticed lately that posters on here have been mentioning how they’ve been trying DF and enjoying it so far or mentioning one good improvement that retail has over classic and they instantly get flamed by some wotlk classic only poster calling them retail andys or to stay on retail etc. or point out that retail has the WoW token.

I’ll then point out that a massive majority of classic players frequently buy gold from 3rd party sites.

An even larger potion just log on wrath to…raid log. Like what? At least retail provides you with M+ and much higher raid difficulties to actually use that gear.

Meta slavery is worse in wotlk classic than retail, I have never seen such a mindset on retail.

I’ve even seen people flame retail for speeding up leveling, yet wotlk is when blizz literally added heirloom garbage

So how exactly is wotlk classic a “true mmo” and retail is not again?

Eh retail is in a state of constant change, who’s to say its bad if you’ve not touched it in years? That’s a lot of the classic players including me. I’ve just heard enough to know better than to get hype for a expansion… but, I have heard more positivity about retail this time around, but only time can tell. Arguing about leveling speeds is so irrelevant, literally never mattered past the OG 1-60 journey. Just ignore wrath folks trying to talk down to you… these the same folks who weep about RFD all day long because leveling is so hard and lonely so its a lot of hypocrisy going on. People “thought they did but didn’t” type beat lol. Saying this as a exclusive classic player too to be clear, but yea hope Dragonflight goes well.

I have as of yet to read, hear, or even think retail isn’t a “true mmo”.

They’re both mmo’s.

:white_check_mark: Multiplayer
:white_check_mark: Online

Yep. Both check out.

“true mmo” is so vague and subjective I tend to discount it, and maybe the people who say it.

Like what you like my view here. I get reminded of this in pvp often.

some of the wow is true mmo pvp types in say AB have me go ,okay, I think this dude is actually serious lol. coming from several years of 0.0 blob warfare in eve I go… this dude just does not know.

I come for the simpler pvp and enjoy it. all that matters to me.

It’s monkeys flaming the opposing tribe.

There would be no need to so if they didn’t feel intimidated.

I’m a classic player but I’m aware retail provides a superior experience in pretty much all areas. I want my nostalgia and the opportunity to complete what I couldnt the first time.

Besides that, every iteration of WoW improved on the past. Wrath and DF are so far apart it’s not even a competition.

You don’t compare a blacknwhite TV from the 60s with a modern plasma. It was amazing back on the day and still holds the merit of being a relic, but that’s it. It’s old and unrefined

I don’t think it is! I think wotlk is very much Retail.

But, it also has roughly double the number of unique player characters logging raids than WoW Classic had.

Sweet post but who asked?

Both retail and Classic are cancer and have the same types of behaviors and people playing them. That’s why both will never be as popular or as loved as they once were.

I was curious to check out how WotLK would turn out in Classic and was actually surprised how bad the community and company running the game have become. Blizzard outright despises the players who aren’t diving into the wallet and praising everything they do, and the community has become this ADHD parse/speed focused black hole of imagination and soul that will cut every corner to get from point A to point B without ever stopping to enjoy things.

Before my time ends I’m going to remind people that there are better games out there. There are better developers. There are better communities. Stop degrading yourselves by continuing to support this garbage. Touch some grass. Get some sun. You’ll be better off for it.

Aren’t we not even in phase 2 yet? If you’re complaining about Naxx25 gear making Naxx 25 easier that’s kind of the whole point.

I doubt people are playing M+ for the fun of it using gear they got in the normal version of that raid. They’re probably given M+ exclusive gear hence why they’re raiding it.

Its not. There is no encouragement for social interaction. Maps are dead. No rdf to even put people together. The meta slave thing is only true for extremist guilds. Ive done tons of pugs and noone cares what builds you play

WoTLK is just as much a mass market casual friendly MMO theme park on rails as Retail is. From what I am seeing of DF so far they’re sort of on par in terms of fun value.

I much preferred Vanilla and TBC, for reasons that many people hate them - more player driven content rather than developer driven. Less balanced (I think that’s a good thing - balance slavery leads to homogenized boring content in my view).

By contrast WoTLK is more balanced and more evened out - developer driven content, like retail. WoTLK (like retail) seems to be a cool enough place to hang out for some casual all ages friendly fun. Nothing wrong with that. But Retail and Wrath are peas of the same pod.

Give it about 8 months and I’ll consider it. Not interested in spending more time than needed outside while it dips to -35C and 20+cm of snow.

Wrath makes for a decent timesink until this ends.

Who’s saying this? Most people consider Wrath to be the start of retail.

Probably because there’s more difference between classes in Wrath compared to retail.

Comparing the default leveling speed of retail to something you can’t get in Wrath until you’ve played the game quite a bit is disingenuous. Especially since retail leveling is miles and away faster than Wrath leveling even with heirlooms.

I don’t know about a true MMO, but its not very RPG like to get weaker the moment you level like you do on retail. Soon as you ding BOOM your secondary stats go down and the world around you gets stronger. Every time a new xpac comes out you get weaker as well. Constantly taking abilities away or making you level up to get them back.

Wotlk isn’t Classic WoW and it never was

So take your sockpuppet back to retail then. Your shilling isn’t going to accomplish anything here. Pretty sure gold trading is even worse over there too.
:axe:

i like raidlogging. one playsesh per week is plenty for this side mode of the game.

People are so judgmental about Wrath Classic and most of the content isn’t even unlocked yet. Phase 1 should be the least of your concerns when it comes to Wrath Classic.

Classic is more role play based mmo derived from original dragonlance d&d where as retail has fragmented the storylines and created a mmo based minigame lobby lacking in cohesive and immersive rp aspects.

There is no true MMO
