There is so much information that wow is either explained poorly, or not at all forcing you to go to some third party site with bloated adware just to learn how something works, most recent example I came across being the new torghast changes. Why do I have to go to some horribly made third party site to learn your game? Just at least make an attempt to describe new stuff either on the forums or ingame.
Because people complain when you hand hold too much and remove all discovery aspects.
And then when you don’t hand hold, other people complain that the information isn’t there. It’s lose/lose…
but…
it’s 2021, who doesn’t use some form of ad blocking?
So I have to use a third party extension in order to access a third party site without being swarmed with unethical ads? Seems legit.
It has nothing to do with just wowhead, it’s like… the most useful thing to even have on your browser as a daily internet user.
Hell, the amount of time saved on youtube ads alone.
You’re right, it’s ridiculous. And wowhead has a history of failing to vet their advertisers, resulting in malicious ads. And I don’t mean popups or the max-volume video ads that play 20 minutes after loading the page. I mean actual malware downloaded to disk targeting WoW players.
Which makes it really bad when GMs give players links to wowhead instead of explaining something directly. I had a 20+ page thread about it back around 2016 that mysteriously disappeared. Weird how that happens.
just don’t use third party site.
What makes you think blizzard has any idea how all this crap works?
Because it’s 2021 and we are all just data for the algorthym
I play my way. Not going to sim or pick meta talents. I no longer mythic raid, so why should I care?
Just relax OP. Games are for fun. Don’t do the chore aspect of it.
Stretches feet in the air and wiggles toes
Yeah, pretty much all mainstream websites are like that now.
The biggest clown moment was when Ion said raid is tuned around using DBM and Weakauras, then proceed to not provide ingame version of both.
This is something that has bothered me too. If a system is introduced to the game, and engagement with said system is all but mandatory to progress your character, then that system should be explained in-game.
Like, why even have something called “The Adventure Guide,” if it’s not going to provide any guidance as to how the mandatory systems work? It should contain information on every relevant system the player is expected to interact with.
Welcome to the World of Wowhead.
I’m a big fan of uBlock
NoScript as well
But NoScript isn’t really straightforward to use, it will brick websites unless you know what to enable
You gave me a great idea (not like I’m a dev or anything ) but what if there were a basic system tutorial in game in the style of a cutscene where it shows you how everything works?
It wouldn’t be as fluid as Blizz’s help pins

but it could be more informative.
And in contrast FF has full explanations and tutorials for every aspect of the game, IN THE GAME.
I agree op. I don’t care what excuses people make to justify this practice.
I should be able to figure out everything in the game without leaving the game as far as how to do something ie complete an objective or participate in an activity.
The only exception for me would be the class rotation and talent optimization stuff.
It might cost blizzard zero dollars to just let 3rd party sites do it.
People used to say “why should I have to go to an external site for dungeons?”
So Blizzard created the dungeon journal.
Unfortunately… most people don’t seem to read it.
To be fair, when your gameplay has all the depth of a coloring book, it’s not difficult to provide full documentation.
Said by someone who obviously hasn’t actually played the game beyond the first hour.
