Cata gets a lot of hate I don’t think all of it’s completely deserved so I thought I would make a list And ask the question To you why was cata so bad or good ?
Things that I liked Armor specialization Rated battle grounds The Guild progression system Classes having actual rotations When you get a gliff you learn it instead of having to keep buying it over and over again and transmog Although it was better in mop.
The zones were fun molten front was amazing I still use that mount And the firelands raid Was extremely fun ZA/ZG Revamp were really fun as well.
What I didn’t like Tear 11 was complete trash The heroics We’re initially waiting for the majority of the people that were doing the content especially in an LFD situation.
Archeology sucked Dragon soul was probably really cool on paper it didn’t play out well And yes some classes did have better rotations but some just kind of felt worse going from 71 points to 41 point felt really bad I’m going from 80 to 85 made the zones feel very stretched out and made leveling feel way slower than it should have.
And although ZA and ZG were good the problem became when those dungeons came out that’s all everybody wanted to do because the other heroes were kind of pointless And at the end everybody was going engineering in Blacksmithing because of the gears.
On top of that Having to spend 31 points into one spectrum before you could put points anywhere else felt really bad too And warlocks especially in the 1st here were extremely broken and subtlety being the best PVP AND PVE spec at the same time wasn’t awesome either.
There that would be what I would say were the good and bad points of CATA what are yours ?
And one final thing that I actually forgot about speaking from a retribution palate in point of view Take out inquision And just bake the damage into the other abilities If it’s not fun it wasn’t fun it’s not going to be fun.
I really hated Cata. Mostly because of Transmog, LFR, more class homogenization, meh raids except Firelands (but oh god the firelands event and rep grind before the raid was awful), the “new” world overwritting the old one, the stonecore area was awful, the water level was terrible, dungeons were a slog and very boring…
Wow really should have ended with Wrath closing the story of W3 and TFT and Blizz moved on with a different IP
I enjoyed the start of Cata. I ran a 25-man raiding guild and it was fun doing the heroics with guildies and pushing the raid content. I loved the guild achievements and ranks at the time, that was all super fun even though it led to the creation of cesspool guilds BUT since I had the established guild it was great and we had guild repairs at all times.
Agreed that Firelands was a good raid. I didn’t really care about the talents and things like that and never have so have no memory of my thoughts about that. The disjoined world wasn’t great or the water zone.
I don’t think I’ll play Cata again but it’s more because I feel I did it already and also I burned out of the game after clearing Dragonsoul. I am also feeling burnt out again (that’s probably why I’ve been so forum cranky) but I don’t think Cata is all that bad. I had a great first run.
Merging 10/25 mans, specifically the lockouts sucked and directly lead to LFR being added. Guild perks were a good idea on paper but didn’t work out well in practice. The heroics at launch were pretty terrible and not fun. Changing VP to a weekly cap shared with raids directly encouraged raid logging. The first tier of raids was average, Firelands was excellent(but short) but Dragonsoul which should have been the signature raid of the exp was one of the worst raids ever made.
Archeology and transmog were fun time sinks if you were into those kind of things.
yeah, i know.
Just saying that all those things are still on retail to this very day.
I actually really look forward to it.
Tired of 25m personally. Always those 5-7 people dragging everyone down.
We got a very solid 10m team with really good & fun people
It was problematic because it reduced options for raiding. Which was bad for pugging and for guilds that liked to do 10 mans on off nights. Both of which generally decreased how much people were playing.
LFR wasn’t really a great solution, Flex raiding in MoP was a better solution but it was way too late.
Cataclysm added a ton of really great race/class combinations that breathed some new life into the game. Personally I enjoy most of the revamped zones and how a lot of them flow from the original version to the Cataclsym version.
The Heroic dungeons were supremely fun, I hope they come unnerfed and ready to kick people’s teeth in come Cataclysm Classic. There were a ton of cool designs there that are still memorable for me to this day. Very strong dungeon pool, lots of unique locales.
RDF was amazing for leveling alts. IT was so much fun to level characters and find myself trying out newer specs I had been hesitant to do so in the past. Class Design was incredibly good overall. Each class felt strong, felt unique, and felt they had something to offer.
Adding flying to the older world zones was so freeing, each of the new zones fit neatly into the world of the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor in such a way it’s hard for me to imagine them not being there in the past. They were all supremely well designed.
All of the nice quality of life changes that came in Cataclysm were very welcome.
Transmog is the best addition to the game hands down. It’s very fun to find items to use for sets and come up with something enjoyable.
Each raid was pretty great. Dragonsoul was good outside of the last two bosses which yeah was a letdown unfortunately.
Cataclysm’s guild achievements, the guild level system and such was fantastic. The general guild UI changes were good.
Mastery was a good addition to the game. The ability to reforge your gear and get certain stats made hitting the stat limits far more forgiving allowing players to feel less pressured into getting that 1 piece of BIS they desperately need.
Archaeology is a cool new secondary profession.
Cataclysm was overall pretty good. There were some story elements I didn’t care for but gameplay wise it’s a supremely strong expansion.
You’re about to aggro a lot of classic andys with such statements.
I never played Cataclysm
The only cons I’ve heard so far are:
hard heroics (won’'t be an issue for us in 2023)
water zone (fair…)
LFR (never understood all the hate. Awesome mog. Lower ilvl for alts/casuals)
Dragonsoul lasted for too long (won’t happen in Classic)
Im super excited for Cata. Our whole guild is. We have some folks who want to quit. But no1 wants to go back to Vanilla. Just saying what my guildies been saying in discord.
I was new to game at the time. I didn’t wowhead everything to actually be surprised about this new wondrous journey.
I get my level 80. I see the pricey flight upgrade that cost at least half of my money made (I didn’t token yet). I buy it. cool, I fly faster.
I take the cata option for my 80 to 90.
I get dumped into water going “great, I spent half my money on a flight upgrade I can’t even use here.”
lasted about 2 hours…and went to MoP instead. All alts after…went to MOP becuase of this. I know waterworld ends. I jsut chose to avoid it entirely since even 5 minutes there is too long.
