Why did the Alliance get Mechagnome?

And the Horde got Vulpera?

Horde was like, “ok ok come in” with us… so probably didn’t want any gnomes running around too.

I dig the hat. Really ties the mog together.

If I remember correctly, it also tied into Gelbin’s injuries.

It looked like they were getting Gilgoblins, there are even members of that faction at Bladefist Bay.

'cause Alliance has regular-flavor gnomes
and Horde wanted vulpera, so… yeah

Honestly, it was probably their original plan going into BFA but enough people went “BLIZZ PLEASE FOXES FOXES FOXES” and Blizz smelled money in race swaps

This is what I thought was originally intended- Alliance gets modified gnomes, tied in with their zone, and Horde would have gotten modified goblins, tied in with Nazjatar.

I can only guess as to why this didn’t happen, but my hunch is that there just wasn’t a lot of interest in fishy goblins. Mechagnomes are sort of gnomes-but-moreso, gilblins are just kind of… goblins + fish for no particular reason. Mechagnomes tie in with the themes established with gnomes, gilblins were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. They don’t expand upon goblins’ love of explosives and/or money, they’re just goblins that can swim really well.

There’s also the fact that a race that appears to be very interested in being underwater wouldn’t have a lot to bring to our mostly above-water game world. Imagine they have a increased-swim-speed racial, then look at all the times in SL or DF we’ve had to swim. You’d feel pretty cheated if you made a gilblin and half your racials simply never had an occassion to be used.

Edit: Oh and how can I forget, mechagnomes look DISTINCTLY different from gnomes, you don’t even need to look that close to be able to tell them apart. Gilblins are goblins with gills and webbed fingers, both features that would almost inevitably be covered by any kind of armor or cosmetic gear. So it wouldn’t even look like we’d gotten a new race, just a few more goblins running around. For all their faults, vulpera at least look DISTINCT.

Funny enough, BfA was somewhat malleable with requests. The community has helped Kul’tirans become an allied race, can choose the side of Saurfang, kinda work for N’zoth, Aszhara lives, Vulpera aren’t harmed, and Flynn dates Shaw. :memo::robot:

edit: Also Calia not being the queen of the Forsaken.:robot:

Sorta a similar scenario to the two Taurens but for small races. :robot::+1:

edit: The heritage armor really helps as well. :mechanical_arm::robot:

Cuz Ion said so.

Because Horde is cool.

Alliance is lame.

Mechagnomes are UTTERLY lame. So it makes sense where they went. Keep the lame trash with the lame faction.

Done.

Furries are the exact opposite of anything “cool”.

My theory is that the original plan was to give the Alliance the Sethrak, but since they started to design the Dracthyr they shelved that project and went with mechagnomes instead because they can’t have two races of snake lizards running around.

horde got vulp cause the alliance burnt stuff instead of talking.

mecha gnomes went alliance cause… mechagon got ice cubed and decked out with chrome after he got beat in battle for dazaralor.

mecha gnomes i guess chose a side… even tho both sides helped them.

shoulda been vulp for horde. seth for ally.
mecha gnomes for horde and alliance.

The Alliance drew the short straw!

it felt like they only planned for horde getting furries and then realized we have to give alliance something so they rushed and halfa$$ a gnome race and said good enough. the fact alliance didnt get seth was probably due to them being lazy especially with us having dracthyr who only have 2 slots to mog so the transmog argument would have been a lazy argument to make them just as it is now

1> Notice, I made no comment about the Vulpera.

2> Even without it, I’ve never understood the “furry” complaint about them. Either you are one (and you dig them), or you have some “anti-furry” crusade (which makes no sense, it doesn’t affect you).

But the bigger picture is: they’re just cute. It’s the same reason a cat race is so common across gaming. It’s not because of a kink (not mainly), it’s just the plain, basic fact: they’re cute.

But again, I made no mention of them. gg

Gelbin. Mechagon was the former king of gnomes. :crown::robot:

At least Gazlowe made a deal with Mechagon’s technology. :wrench::robot:

Mechagnomes are just another example of an allied race that should have been racial customization.

I don’t believe for a minute the Alliance was slated to get Sethrak, and while that would have been very cool it would have needed a lot of dev time. Easier to slap things on a gnome and call it a day.
