For what it is, I like the concept of mechagnomes. But I wish they had better customizations. They only went like 30% crazy with the idea. They are gnomes with robot legs and arms, only a couple of options at that. And some goggles and ear options that make them look sort of low tech… oddly enough. Goblins could have come up with something better than silly antenna ears or speakers? Why do they have speakers on their EARS? Lol
Amputated gnomes. Oh, poor Alliance.
And of course, talking bipedal cows totally aren’t furry, right?
Honestly I think that we got Vulpera because Blizzard themselves ended up liking the fox people more than they expected. At the launch of BfA, the Vulpera ended up with a large number of customization options for a non-playable race which was very unusual and one of the factors that led to early speculation on them becoming an allied race.
Now the Unshackled leadership showing up on the coast of Durotar after the Nazjatar Campaign could be a sign that the Kelfin were still in consideration and it was around that time they decided to go with Vulpera over the Kelfin.
As for Alliance getting Mechagnomes….
I think they just followed the variant of the core playable race that most of the allied races did and so when they decided to make a gnome allied race equivalent they looked at the gnome variants (mechagnomes, leper gnomes, sand gnomes) and went with them over the others. What I’m curious about is if they had decided on mechagnomes becoming playable when creating Mechagon or deciding upon the decision afterwards.
Do you really want a bunch of gnomes getting underfoot in Orgrimmar? Especially mechanical ones? They have a propensity to play with lethal radiation too, look what they did to their own city.
because blizzard often treats the alliance like diaper babies, so they literally gave us diaper babies as a race.
Alliance got Mechagnomes because the Devs hate us, as evidenced by them giving us Mechagnomes.*
Horde got Vulpera because they Horde is nothing, and the cat-owners wanted something to play on their favorite faction that they also thought was “super cute”
*Seriously, one of the WORST decisions going
I think it was much longer than that as the previous concept of the Junker Gnome went through phases. Tinny survived most of that.
During the Battle for Azeroth beta, “Junker Gnome Caverns” and “Mechagnome Island” maps were datamined alongside the other island expeditions.
…then began a mystery of the missing gnomes with a strange clue…
It’s not just him, it seems that all of the gnomes that were living in the city just up and vanished.
This adorable mass of whirlers, cogs, and sprockets wasn’t assembled in Gnomeregan. Where then?
…and much later there’s some funny foreshadowing.

fox and robot are the best of wow
You said horde are cool.
Furries are anything but “cool”. So I corrected your statement.
So yeah GG, if the horde can get UTTERLY lame vulpera then they can get UTTERLY lame Mechagnomes.
Because Blizzard hates the Alliance. Or at least that’s the popular explanation.
It was a funny opportunity to throw in two midget races at once.
Cause i think they had planned to have them as a new race but couldn’t figure out a new race for the alliance so they slapped the allied race tag onto them and then tossed the mechagnomes at the alliance. We where and after thought.
I still think the horde shoulda got gilgoblins and if they wanted vulpera they could have given the alliance sethrak. No excuse on the “can’t transmog” when mechagnomes can’t with 3 of their slots.
Mechagnomes are gnomes, so they joined the same faction as the latter like most other allied races joined the same faction as their own estranged kin. Also, they were necessary for reviving Mekkatorque following his near-death experience at Dazar’alor, a gnome allied race was easier to conceptualize than one for worgen, and they were far easier to make playable than most of the quadrillion NPC races that Alliance players were asking for at the time.
Vulpera joined the Horde because the Horde PC helped liberate them from the Faithless and was generally kind to them, so presumably they saw that kindness and figured that the rest of the Horde could give them a new home away from the sethrak enslaving them and the Alliance encroaching on their land.
Alliance sort of got the short end of the stick…with mechagnomes and fat humans
Stop calling them Mechagnomes, they aren’t, they were originally called Junker Gnomes and Blizz decided to change the name to try and make it sound better than it was. Mechagnomes are what we saw in Northrend, not these cheap knockoffs.
As to why we got them and Horde got Vulpera, it’s yet another joke by Blizz towards the Alliance, they can’t help but monkeypaw anything the Alliance asks for.
No, you injected an opinion that no one asked for.
Nor did you refute the fact that I asserted: that it has NOTHING to do with your weird obsession with “furries” (you can come out, it’s ok), and everything to do with the simple, basic fact: they’re just cute.
Occam’s Razor > you
They’re just cute. Every other reason beyond that adds complexity that isn’t necessary.
They’re just cute.
gg
Because Stormwind has strict laws about vermin and importing pest species.
Because Alliance are the good guys, so you got the good robots.
Horde are interesting and have more compelling characters, so we got the Vulpera who are interesting and have a more compelling story than… slightly more robotic versions of Gnomes.
This.
… I mean, that’s like asking why is water categorised under as ‘wet’ and lava as ‘hot’.
