Why did RBG die?

I used to RBG a lot. Then i got into a group with a lead who berated me into oblivion for not topping the healing meters.

I was probably in a group above my skill range but he was relentlessly savage when tearing into me to the point i just stopped playing them.

I sat there in discord eating insult after insult while everyone else in the group sat there in silence or laughed quietly in the background. Not sure why people didnt tell him to lay off but i digress

I think the upper tier of players and its associated toxicity ruined rbgs for me personally.

I remember doing RBGs with a guild and it was no issue getting 10 people together who already knew their role and it was very fun. Pugging a group of 10 players that play coordinated was a nightmare. Just putting a group together took forever, always waiting for a healer of a certain class/spec and/or a flag carrier. I think blitz will be much more successful simply because of the solo/duo queue with a healer.

I don’t think “hard” is the right word. It’s just tedious. You have a set of requirements in order to be a successful group.

Everyone needs to be close in CR range
You need certain classes/specs to fill certain roles to be successful

While you wait to fill those roles with PUGs, you can count on people leaving, creating another hole you have to fill while you are trying to fill the group. It’s just tedious if you don’t have a group of regulars to do it with. Filling groups actually gets easier the more you play, but getting into RBGs was ridiculous. If you had not CR/high achieve from previous season(s) you had to roll with YOLO groups until you got to a certain point and those were just 50/50 against other YOLO groups… If you went against a coordinated team you were like 10% likely to win lol.

Cheating. Numerous hacks, (fly hacking) abusing maps (people were able to phase through walls) boosters/paid carries (anyone remember Balamos?) insane levels of botting/scripting,DDOS, lag scripting rogues and druids (flag caps) and lastly a hugely toxic community.

BTW these rats are all in shuffle now. Rated bg shuffle is going to be a sewer. The people that are saying it’ll ‘save’ pvp didn’t see the total gong show RBG’s became in MOP and WOD. I already see people justifying the same sorts of things in solo. Leaving, intentionally throwing matches, botting/scritping etc. The goal post shifts are hilarious here too. It went from “its not happening, and you’re a bad person for noticing this thing that isn’t happening” to ‘its happening but it’s not the reason why you lose rating’ and finally ‘it happens a lot but only at high levels.’

I’ll even tell you what one of the bigger cheats is going to be in the new mode-getting pre mades into what is not intended to be a premade. The ability to co-ordinate and communicate well literally determines the outcome of most conflicts.

RBGs have been ‘dead’ since MoP. The achievements no longer have any value after the massive amount of cheating. Even after that was fixed, the top teams still frequently found ways to exploit the maps. Stealth capping flags. Hiding the flags in walls. Fast capping. Gripping players into spots where they will be stuck… Most of these things have been fixed, but not before these teams exploited them for months or more.

Revival and waiting 30-1hr for any decent FC just for a cap group with XP. FC is one of those positions that are extremely hard to carry, even in voice holding hands.

My work around, if I’ve still looking after 10 mins - one of the MW will FC and I will hold his or her hand.

I will genuinely be (pleasantly) surprised if somebody from the losing team doesn’t leave before the conclusion of the match in over 50% of matches below “above average” rating. If they have the system work the same as shuffle (no mmr loss) for leavers, it will be exponentially worse.

Did a yolo yesterday for the weekly. We lost. Barely got 100 honor towards it. Hard pass on doing another.

They need to balance the tanks. I did a Blitz TP recently where one team had a guardian druid and the other team’s tank was a blood dk. You can probably guess who won.

I agree but I don’t think this should be discouraged in solo-queue BGB. Rather, I think they just need to make the in-game voice comms highly functional, so that there’s at least the opportunity for solo-queue players to coordinate as well as a discord group. The BGB community needs to find a culture of picking a leader in each group (e.g. player with highest rating is lead and calls shots, or nominates another lead if they don’t want to lead).

It actually works pretty good, a few friends and I tried it out at the start of 10.2.

Legion Season 1 is the only time i can remember RBGS “thriving” and only because PvErs wanted the gear for raids/m+.

This isn’t really an RBG issue, though. But I would have just left the Discord and probably the match. Those greasy, nerds can barely afford ramen–what are they going to do about it? lol

No reward structure. Gatekept community. People leaving after 1 loss in pugs. Zzz

Well, we figured out the answer to ‘Why Wow sucks since whenever…’: We always have plunderstorm!?

Worst part of rbgs was the trash community.

Because RBGs had more bad going for it than good.

i cant speak for every1 but heres my rated bg experience

  • i will find a pug group in LFG, we will win a single game at 1600 CR

  • next game we for some reason get matched against a 2200 CR team who absolutely crushes us and isbands our team

overall it was a very garbage gaming experience, it needs to be smoother in progression. why fight mike tyson after winning my first fight?
