minus the redemption arc
When did Nestlé get a redemption arc?
It wasnât just Illidian. There were other villains such as Kaelâthas, Lady Vashj, Archimonde and KilâJaeden. It wrapped up a lot of loose ends from Warcraft and set the stage for the final confrontation with Arthas, the Lich King.
Thatâs what I meant: NestlĂ© has never reformed or apologized for anything, so theyâre just a plain villain.
Neither has Illidan.
Azerothâs forces fought at his side only because he was the lesser threat, and because the bigger threat was a common foe.
And also because I didnât get a say on the matter lol
Alright, Iâm no lore expert, but I thought the whole story is that everything he was doing on Outland was to prepare to defend Azeroth vs the Legion. Surely that redeems him a fair amount?!
That sounds cringe. Oh man that sounds goofy AF.
Not really, because pretty much every big villain in Warcraft is trying to save the world or the universe from a bigger threat.
The Legion was trying to save the universe from the Void, the Jailer was trying to save the greater cosmos from the mystery 7th cosmic force, etc.
All the big bads believe they are the hero.
Illidan is mini-Sargeras.
if you have the time, check out patriciantvâs video on vanilla wow (or The World of Warcraft Diary: A Journal of Computer Game Development by John Staats where this information is sourced from), they loooooved pirates and pirates of the carribean back then
Honestly, Illidan and the player character is basically the same relationship as say Overkill and the Tick or Cecil and Invincible. The PC sees in black and white, which has them butt heads with a character who operates in the grey area.
I absolutely do not see Illidan as a âvillainâ. And no, it isnât âevery villain sees themselves as a heroâ, like yes he has an ego and he does in fact want respect, and he does some bad stuff from time to time, but he is absolutely striving to operate for the greater good. Heâs like an Android arc Vegeta maybe. Still prideful but he is on the side of good.
Thereâs still far too much piratey nonsense in the game for me. How many arrrrr matey transmogs do we need?!
Just a bit of slavery, genocide, environmental destruction, world-wide mass blackmail and probably jaywalking lol
All while enslaving the denizens of Outland. Legion demons came through the Dark Portal, so we retaliated.
Is conscription completely equivalent to subjugation (not using the other word, too politically charged)?
Now I do think offering up unwilling souls to the reliquary is⊠pretty bad (although honestly a lot less bad after-the-fact now that we know what was going in the Shadowlands) but⊠well itâs hard to excuse. Itâs definitely one of the darkest decisions he made. Itâs interesting because Legion paints the Illidari as willing to sacrifice but I suppose there are simply not enough willing sacrifices to do what is needed (the reliquary was used as a lure to turn demons against the Legion with a promise of a way to feed their Fel addiction afaik).
I dunno. It was possibly a mistake, but I also donât think Illidan installed it either, he just kept using it for his own ends and kept it running.
They literally had a dungeon called âSlave Pensâ.
Itâs also 20 years later IRL.
It doesnât change the fact that the slavery is Canon and also itâs still there.
Illidan enslaved people. Thatâs lore.
The Illidari demons keep me here because of my knowledge of ancient draenei crystals and relics.
Theyâve enslaved many of my people and use us to look for a powerful crystal⊠one that in all likelihood is not even here.
- Why donât you escape?
What for? If Illidanâs demons donât catch me and enslave me again, then the naga of Zangarmarsh will.
Joining Illidan and his allies has turned out to mean nothing but slavery to most of the Broken tribes. There is no hope for my people.
I seem to remember demons pouring out of the Dark Portal, Argent Dawn held the line till we could go in.
Yeah, yeah you are, the entire questline that explains why you went in with Akama
Heck wc3 gave you a ton of lore.
I canât see people playing bc and not playing wc3 prior.
